Who is worth watching here and who will carry this team at WJC without Draisaitl?

Also what are strong and weak side of this year German team?

GK is Ok

2 good D pairs

Bender - Moeser
Wagner - Trinkberger

If the Oilers release him for a week, we could have 2 good FW lines.

Kahun - Draisaitl - Tiffels
Eder - Eisenschmid - Kammerer

So we should stay up this year!

Im expecting it to be between Denmark and Germany for relegation, with Germany taking it home.

Denmark actually look pretty good on offense, and in Goal.

But the D, as always is horribly weak

Markus Eisenschmid is injured right now. Listed out week to week. He has been one of the better players for the Tigers this season. Heard he is getting better, but might be a last minute thing.

Edit: Coaches mentioned he is a likely possibility to return as soon as this weekend. (dec 5,6,7)

I would look out for the following players:

Forwards:
Frederik Tiffels
Dominik Kahun
Manuel Wiederer

Defensemen:
Jonas Müller
Tim Bender
Janik Möser

I think the depth is quite good by German standards.
I am a bit worried, as always, about the mobility of our defensemen.
I expect Eisenschmid, Wiederer and Tiffels to be the main goal scoring threats on the team.
In goal I hope that Sharipov will be the starter in most games.

What's the word on Draisaitl playing for Germany? I've heard a bunch of contradicting stories. Oilers gonna release him?
I was one of the naysayers early on in regards to Draisaitl getting released to play in the tournament. I did mention, however, that situations do change, and in my opinion things have turned in a big way. Nothing like an eleven game losing streak to make a club reassess their plans! You have to think that Oilers brass is now thinking that sticking around with this team may not be in the best interests of a young player that could get a good confidence boost from a tournament like this. I'm sure Germany isn't going to do well in this tourney, but they'll probably pick up more wins than the Oilers!

anyone know wether this will be on TV in Germany? I guess not, in that case is there a way to watch in other than grainy streams? I don't know yet wether I'll watch the tournament but I definetly won't if there is no TV/streaming service in good quality. Of course the IIHF in true fashion doesn't seem to have a website up.

I forgot Kahun was eligiable for this year, thought he was too old. It surprises me he hasn't been able to take a regular spot in the DEL this year, or that no NHL team would draft him even in the later rounds last summer. He was one of the best forwards in last years World Juniors, not just on his own team, I mean in the entire tournament.

I thought he was pretty impressive as well. If I were a GM, I would definitely take him with a late pick. Of course the NHL still has this fixation with size, particularly on draft day.

I've only seen him play live once this year, and a couple more times on tv. He showed flashes of his great skill but didn't seem strong enough to execute what he wants to do. He hasn't been too convincing so far, so that's probably the reason.

The German team will definitely miss Draisaitl. Could most likely see this team playing the Danes for relegation.

We will definitely miss Draisaitl offensively as well as defensively. Germany vs. Denmark seems like a very likely relegation matchup. It all depends on how well our top players do. Kahun, Bender, and Pfohl who are the best players from the DEL on our roster IMO, as well as Eisenschmied, Tuomie, Tiffels, Moser, and Trinkberger from NA. A good performance from our goalies, Kevin Reich in particular, would also be extremely important. But I'm not hoping for much more than a win in the relegation matchup.

I actually like Sharipov in these kind of games, where the team gets totally dominated and he sees a ton of rubber, more than Reich, although being more familiar with the play in North America, might be a big advantage for Reich.
Either way the goalie(s) will have to stand on his/their head(s).

I think in Draisaitl's absence Tiffels is our best player. The gap to guys like Kahun and Eisenschmid is not huge, but it is there I believe.
I hope a kid like J.Müller who has been doing so well in the DEL can translate that performance to this tournament.

Since when is Cortina coaching the U20 team aswell?

Him and the fact that Draisaitl is missing makes me think they'll get relegated this year

I think the idea is that they want the U20 and the men's team to play the same system and make the transition for the young players easier when they join the national team.

They'll most likely be relegated because the other teams are just plain stronger this year (on paper). I think the depth for Germany is slightly better than Denmark, but their best players (Ehlers in particular) are so much better than ours.

I am no fan of Cortina by any means, but it's not like Hoefner had been particularly impressive. In my opnion they managed to stay in the top division for a few years now due to a couple of strong years with players like Rieder and Draisaitl, and not due to great coaching.

I'm really thinking that Germany can give some of the better teams in there Pool this year a run for there money (Finland, Slovakia maybe USA if they are lucky) they look solid on the Offense (fast) and goaltending side of things but I think the Defense side will give them a little bit of trouble on the Penalty kill and fast breaks! On paper they look like they will make Q-F and send Slovakia to relegation round.!

I don´t think that Germany looks better on paper than Slovakia, although I wouldn´t be that surprised if they beat us.

Leon Draisaitl will NOT be released to Germany for the WJHC.

Much to the dis-like of Oilers fans. Yet another brilliant decision from the management team here....these clowns just dont get it..
