Confirmed with Link: Charlie Lindgren extended to 3 year 3M per

I don’t believe this necessarily means they don’t love their pipeline. But I DO believe they feel nobody is getting held back. Clay will still develop as well, but that starts when he is getting 65%-70% of starts which he will next year. Nobody is claiming a goalie who hasn’t even proven a workload in the AHL.

I love this signing. Before Cap increase came, i was at 2.5M. New Cap and we only paid 3M which will have a lot of value in 2 years.

Apply that model to Chychrun and we have precedent and leverage. I think we can get him for 9Mx8 or 8Mx2or3.

Solid deal. It's a very tradable contract.

Also, I'd ask for a trade if I were Stevenson.
Nah. He's had a sophomore slump in the AHL. Next season his contract is 1 way, but still easily can be buried in the AHL. I have not liked Hershey's way of going about things trying to 3peat as Calder Cup Champs. They have given Hunter Shepard too many starts. Stevenson hasn't been allowed to have his training wheels taken off and let him get a good workload this season. Shep is awful now and should not even be the 3rd string Caps goalie. Caps/Hershey need to cut ties with Shep and let Stevenson take over. Stevenson has his work cut out for the rest of this season and offseason. If Shep is not back next season, Gibson is the next goalie to challenge up the depth charts.

8x8 and call it a day. Chychrun(for other players) would want longevity on term. I think $9 million is a bit of reach.

Regarding Shep/Stevenson, something has gone strange or wrong. Both last season in Hershey had .929/.922 SV%'s, and then this season it's been .894/.883. Hershey's defensive structure has been pretty bad this season, as their offense has been carrying the team. Hershey really needs McIIrath, but he can't be sent down because there is a reasonable chance he gets picked up on waivers. He might have a better chance after the trade deadline, but I'm not sure on the AHL requirements to be playoff eligible. The AHL now play 72 game schedule instead of the NHL 82 one.

Bjorklund/Gibson could be the next wave of goalie prospects pushing up the ranks, if Stevenson has a development setback. Caps are gonna have to do something and replace Sheps 3rd string spot with another goalie.

Mixed feelings on this one.

On one hand, Lindgren is obviously a big part of the locker room, and they want to try and preserve that chemistry for as long as they can. So I get the desire to keep him around. And he's largely exceeded expectations since joining the team. Plus the deal has no trade protection, so it's possibly they can buy themselves out of future problems.

On the other hand, the biggest appeal of the Capitals goaltending tandem heading into this season was how incredibly cap efficient it was. Next year it will cost nearly 5x more than the same tandem did this season. And $3M until the mid-30s for a goalie who essentially only has one year of starter grade play in the NHL is definitely a gamble in it's own right.
