I though Finland looked decent in most games as well. The lack of scoring on PP is just bizarre, such an weird thing to occur. Weird tournament overall.

I do hope they hire special team experts and focus heavily on that for next year's tournament. I doubt Jortikka will be fired over this.

Get these kids more shooting practise throughout their training. All the other top teams' shots looked to have much more accuracy.

Our best players in this tournament:Rantanen, Honka HM Puljujärvi

Most disappointing:Mustonen, Lintuniemi, Lyytinen, Mäkinen

Most disappointing considering the potential: Kapanen (you could see the talent but not the result, beginning of the tournament was awful), Lehkonen (showed great effort but needed to be more effective),

Neutral to mildly-positive showing: Hintz (I thought he was just okay despite some people hyping him), Aho, Husso, Saros

Filled their role adequately: Kalapudas, Vähätalo, Ojamäki, Rauhala, Björninen

The rest I don't have much to comment on.

Jortikka threw players under the bus. I want him to be fired even more. It's not just the players fault when we are talking about kids.

Kapanen was disappointing, but showed flashes of brilliance including that goal today. He should be huge next year in Helsinki, but I doubt he'll be there, Pens likely to take him full time.

5 on 5, no big problems, even rather impressive at times. But scoring. And the powerplay - it was so horrible that it was funny... Cannot take these tournaments totally seriously, but to be honest, we as a country do have a big issue about scoring and individual talent. As a team we are strong, cohesive, hard to beat, but we produce less top talent than our best competitors. Something should be done, finally.

Kapanen - Hintz - Rantanen
Aho - Kalapudas - Puljujärvi
Lammikko - Saarela - Laine
XXX - Nättinen - XXX

Tuulola, Niku, Vainio, Juolevi, Vaakanainen etc

Hopefully Kivi is behind the bench next year.

Agree with the two first lines, but we shouldn't drop Nättinen to the fourth line center. He's capable of playing more offensive role, and because he or Saarela can play in wing too, I see our third line as Nättinen - Saarela - Lammikko/Laine (if Laine makes it to the team, we can throw Lammikko to fourth line). Lämsä is the clear choice for the fourth line center (has already played many games in that role in FEL), and Kiviranta to his wing.

My team would be:

Kapanen - Hintz - Rantanen
Aho - Kalapudas - Puljujärvi
Nättinen - Saarela - Laine
Lammikko - Lämsä - Kiviranta
+ Hopponen

Tuulola - Niku
Keskitalo - Vainio
Moberg - Juolevi
+ Sopanen

Kähkönen
Vehviläinen

I'm sure that our offense will be much better next year, that lineup looks just great. Defence will be almost completetly new, but I don't believe that it would be worse than this year.

Puljujärvi needs better linemates next year. And please no pure energy line players as we could have some actual scorers in every line.

Rantanen-Hintz-Puljujärvi
Lammikko-Saarela-Kapanen
Tammela-Nättinen-Laine
Aho-Kalapudas-Lämsä
Palmu

Juolevi-Saarijärvi
Niemeläinen-Tuulola
Niku-Sopanen
Keskitalo

Kähkönen
Vehviläinen

This team's preparation was screwed from the start of the project as Jortikka said before the tournament. It was his 7th time coaching the U-20 team and he's never had as little training camp dates with the team as this time. Clubs weren't letting players to camp or players were injured.

With Rantanen as center it gives the team a whole new dynamic.

Kapanen - Rantanen - Saarela

Aho - Hintz - Puljujarvi

Lammikko - Kalapudas - Laine

Lamsa - Nattinen - Kiviranta

Much stronger in the middle than the previous team. Offense looks as good as ever.

Two Liiga games is a woefully small sample, but I have to say, at least this far he hasn't looked out of place at all. Should TPS stick him to the slot, it could certainly become an asset for next year.

Though things look slightly better even if they don't, since Saarela should improve as well.

(Didn't think of a better topic than this to post this news)

Finnish U20 coach Hannu Jortikka has resigned, even though his contract was for next season too.

He said the reason for his resignation was that nowadays he lacks the motivation needed to coach youngsters.

"I used to know even the youngest players and it felt nice to coach them. Nowadays I don't really know these young players, which is exhausting. Before the WJC in Canada I had to trust other peoples' opinions and evaluations of players too much."

Good thing IMO, and it's good that he realized those things himself. Maybe it's time for Kivi's return? :)
