Ben Bishop injured? the Lightning suddenly look like very appealing opponents even though we have a history of struggling against backups.

If the Lightning win two playoff series without Ben Bishop, to meet us in the ECF, we would obviously not be the only team struggling against a backup.

It's literally impossible for us to play them in the first round. Slim possibility to play them in the 2nd. Either a) Detroit would have to win all 3 and TBL lose all three remaining games, then TBL beats Pittsburgh in round 1 or b) The Rangers fail to get 2 points in the next two games and Columbus gets 5 in their remaining games, Detroit gets 4 in their remaining games and we beat Boston while TBL beats Montreal.

Complex.

By the time the ECF rolls around, if both us and TBL got there, Bishop could be back.

Montreal was a horror match up for them, anyway.

Boston is floundering. I think they peaked way too early this season. And I think their defense is a fundamental weakness this year. The Seidenberg loss will be very costly.

I can't see Columbus or Detroit surprising them. But I can't see them beating Montreal either.

Pitt is sputtering too, in their own regard. Hopefully whoever plays them first can eliminate them, or if not that, at least not give them tremendous momentum heading into the 2nd round.

I'm hopeful we can beat the flyers and Pitt is a probable choice if we advance to that round. They always give us trouble in the playoffs. Hopefully if we meet them again, this year is different.

Either way, I think our most likely opponents for each round (if we make it there) is as follows:

Phi, Pitt, Mont, St. Lou.

That's a frightening road.

Not sure how much stock to put into teams that are 'floundering' or 'sputtering' at the end of the season, especially teams that clinched playoff spots/first place long ago.

Like telling ourselves the Bruins peaked way too early? A week ago? As we all know our organizational mission statement is 'anything can happen', but if I were a Bruin fan I'd still be very confident.

Montreal is frightening from a Rangers standpoint because NYR are historically bad against them, but something about that team inspires absolutely no confidence in me for the playoffs. I just can't imagine them having a ton of success in the post season. Not enough quality weapons. Not nearly enough size. Not particularly great on offense or defense. They remind me of the Rangers with less size. I don't see either team pulling it off realistically, but I think Montreal has even worse odds.

to me, the "easiest" road to the finals would be something like...

Philly-->Detroit-->Columbus-->Phoenix (if they squeeze in)

the likelyhood of that happening is slim to none, but it's my 2 cents anyway.

My ideal:
Philly - Columbus - Montreal - Colorado

My un-ideal:
Columbus - Pittsburgh - Boston - San Jose

Oh isn't this a beautiful playoff goal...

Hopefully we'll see more great stuff from him, take us to the Stanley Cup Final! :)

This has been happening for like the past 30 years lol, they won the President's trophy in 2000 and were out in round two iirc. Made the playoffs like 25 years in a row, made it to ONE conference final in that span, NO cup finals. They were in the cup final for their first three years of existence, but they were swept in all three.

They're basically the Bengals.

Other than the 3 straight sweeps, I did not know this. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. That just sucks.

I am 10x more confident in this team than last year's team. Does anyone remember the lineup Torts put out for game 5 against Boston?

Hagelin - Stepan - Callahan
Kreider - Brassard - Nash
Pyatt - Boyle - Zucc
Haley - Newbury - Dorsett

McDonagh - Del Zotto
Moore - Girardi
Hamrlik - Eminger.

That bottom six is so terrible I think it gave me a disease.

not to mention half or D was awful as well.

I liked Eminger but he was awful in the playoffs last year and I think that played a big part in why he wasn't brought back (though his replacement was Falk LOL). Hamrlik was also brutal, vividly remember him getting toasted on the GWG in game 5.

So if Columbus loses in regulation the Rangers will be facing Philly in the first round? Home ice advantage still TBD.

Looks like we wont have an answer until the last game has been played.

There's even a small chance for the Caps or the Devils to get in.

Hammer was bad. Bad enough to nearly wash the taste of Bryan McCabe out.

It's kind of weird to see all the NYR hate on the Jackets board. I don't mind them in the least and I've been rooting for them to do well ever since the trade.

Really? Any specific threads or just comments here and there?

After that last game against them, **** them  I never cheered louder for an empty netter when we clinched that W against them...
