Do 20 players dress or is the bench larger?

So what's the big deal then? Lot's of blueliners didn't make that team. No one in Leaf Land believe Dion is one of the best six Canadian d-men.

Responding to your 7mill comment. People seem to equate dollar value to franchise value and it doesn't. He holds a lot of value to the franchise, he is the captain and with that comes added responsibility and that factors into it. While his salary is debatable I don't believe it is really out of the norm and with an escalating cap will be pretty much inline with other players.

Wait, did we not announce 8 D to team Canada?

with an escalating cap the other cap hits will also scale lower.

Kulemin is a checker and a PK player on team Russia, the same role he plays in Toronto.

That is how they used him in the past at least.

I think we all know he's a very unique player for a Russian. I don't think anyone can go up and down their roster (and left or right) like Kulemin can. He's their only swiss army knife.

He as definitely brought to the team for those intangibles but with the lack of Alex Semin on the team, Kulemin will likely play with Malkin due to their proven chemistry.

Ok, sorry, but I just thought the tone of your post sounded like we all (Leaf fans, and, non-Leaf fans) should not be happy with Phaneuf being left off the Team Canada roster.

I read it as what it appears to be, a certain group of fans who are happier to see our players and team struggle so they can say I told you so that they are when anything good happens to said team or players.

Am I happy Phaneuf isn't there? Nope, but not because I thought he belonged, more because the above mentioned people will be sure to twist it into some form of proof that he is a useless piece of garbage, like they always do.

Sharp - Toews - Stamkos
Getzlaf - Tavares - Perry
Marleau - Bergeron - Nash

Benn
Duchene

I might swap marleau and Sharp and Benn jumps on for Nash if Nash doesn't bring it in game one. Duchene is the injury replacement

If you guys think these teams are based off a half NHL season you're kidding yourselves

Its a combination of things but regardless whether its 4 years, 2 years, 1 year, or 1 day, guys like St.Louis or Giroux have been, simply put, better. I'm glad Kunitz made, and I'm glad Sharp made it, because they'll have some cohesion and familiarity with their linemates (Crosby and Toews) but St.Louis really should be there to play with Stammer. Glad Staal didn't make it in either but Nash making it is a joke.

You need cohesion and familiarity to win such short tournaments (as well as solid goaltending) and I fail to see how Nash helps accomplish that. Especially considering he's really just a one-man highlight reel on the odd occasion. Where is the glue?

Phaneuf is FAR from being a useless piece of garbage! We'll see just how much Chara was a key piece for the Bruins when he retires. Same thing will happen with Phaneuf, however, we're luckier because he's younger than Chara!!!

He might as they've played together in WJC and in the KHL.

Kulemin adds defensive awareness and strong puck protection and fore-checking abilities to the line he plays on so you do need players when you're going against the World's best.

Phaneuf was wayyy down on the list of Hockey Canada hopefuls. Don't kid yourselves. Passive defensive d-men with lead in their skates aren't exactly perfect fits for the larger ice surface.

Really all it proves is Team Canada brass picked Doughty, Pietrangelo, Weber, and Subban over Phaneuf for guys that play right side.

As always, the team that DIDN'T make it:

FORWARDS
Taylor Hall ($6.000m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Martin St. Louis ($5.625m)
Milan Lucic ($6.000m) / Eric Staal ($8.250m) / James Neal ($5.000m)
Logan Couture ($2.875m) / Joe Thornton ($7.000m) / Tyler Seguin ($5.750m)
Evander Kane ($5.250m) / Jason Spezza ($7.000m) / Jordan Eberle ($6.000m)
Joffrey Lupul ($5.250m) / Jeff Skinner ($5.725m)

DEFENSEMEN
Dan Boyle ($6.667m) / Brent Seabrook ($5.800m)
Kris Letang ($3.500m) / Marc Staal ($3.975m)
Dion Phaneuf ($6.500m) / Brian Campbell ($7.143m)
Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Mark Giordano ($4.020m

GOALTENDERS
Corey Crawford ($2.667m)
Jonathan Bernier ($2.900m)
Marc-Andre Fleury ($5.000m)

That's a good looking team. I wish we could send a couple of teams because although this roster<<< the A roster, it still looks like a medal team to me.

You mean like his supporters always toss in the he was an NHL allstar,( voted in by fans) or like where he finished in the Norris voting all the while dismissing the winner of the said trophy..... Or that now his plus minus stat is valid and last years giveway stats were not.

Very few if any people call him a worthless piece of garbage.....more then a few however feel that he is over paid as he is paid as if he is Elite when the selectors of team Canada disagree.

You guys are the ones making a thing out of this. Phaneuf didn't make it, no one really expected him to either so I'm not sure what's going on here. Most folks are just talking about team Canada.

Really? If you have ever watched Team Canada in the past then you would know Bash is here because he has consistently been the glue of this team. I didn't have him on my team but I can see why he is.

He doesn't have to be a top goal scorer on this team but he has always been in top form for Canada even in slump years in the NHL

That may may have been true but I still fail to see how Nash gets selected ahead of St.Louis.

All the guys you mentioned are right-handed defenseman, which makes it easier to make the simple plays off the boards (among others). You don't know how much TC fancied Phaneuf on his off-side. They very well may have been looking at him on the left side, by which Vlasic, Hamhuis, and Bouwmeester were selected ahead of him.
