Are you cheering for Canada and are you hoping they win?

A World Championship >>> Individual Sport Championship
or
An Olympic Gold Medal >>> Stanley Cup

So I understand that importance and priorities to win on the World stage are higher so you want the best players in the World to represent a Nation.

Of course, I'm Canadian.

Taylor Hall should have made it in over Rick Nash. The inclusion of Rick Nash actually makes me want to not cheer for Team Canada.

But anyway, other than that, I think the Team Canada selection committee did a lot of good here. Kunitz, Sharp, Smith, Bouwmeester, and Vlasic all have earned spots based on the merits of their play. Good for them.

We needed more of a meritocracy, which is why Rick Nash's approval annoys me to no end.

Not sure why you replied to my post then.

Because Phaneuf just doesn't belong on the Olympic Ice in Sochi. Apparently, the experts selecting the players to go, didn't think Phaneuf has the FOOT SPEED to compete on BIG ICE either!

Nothing in my post implied that he did.

Overtime in the gold medal game.

Rick Nash retrieves the puck in his own end and attempts to skate it out of his zone only to have stick lifted and puck stolen by Evgeni Malkin. Malkin spins and fires a puck on goal that rebounds off of Price's right pad onto the stick of Nikolai Kulemin who slams it into the net for the winner.

Book it, hockey gods. :sarcasm:

Apparently, Nash has excelled on the big ice for Canada (Men's World) even when he hasn't played his best in the NHL. So, he made it on previous reputation and production alone.

Ok, sorry, but I just thought the tone of your post sounded like we all (Leaf fans, and, non-Leaf fans) should not be happy with Phaneuf being left off the Team Canada roster.

lol I am happy Phaneuf is not on Team Canada roster. He should not even be on the reserve. The man cannot skate to save his life.

I am just scared what will Karlsson do with elite forwards, big ice and King Henrik in net. lol

Just glad Lundqvist has recently gone cold and is probably low on confidence.

Thinking I'm more happy that Kulie made it, than annoyed at the Team Canada snubs. Can't wait to see "Kulyomin" tear it up with Malkin. He deserves it.

I like the Americans defense on the big ice, and their goaltending is superb.

Oh crap I completely forgot about them LOL

Lets re-do this

On paper:

Best team: Canada, Sweden,

Best offense: Canada, Sweden, Russia

Best defense: Canada, Sweden, USA

Best goalies: Finland, USA

So what's the big deal then? Lot's of blueliners didn't make that team. No one in Leaf Land believe Dion is one of the best six Canadian d-men.

Responding to your 7mill comment. People seem to equate dollar value to franchise value and it doesn't. He holds a lot of value to the franchise, he is the captain and with that comes added responsibility and that factors into it. While his salary is debatable I don't believe it is really out of the norm and with an escalating cap will be pretty much inline with other players.
