I'm with you - have never been able to stand USA hockey. I think it started because I hated guys like Brett Hull, Jeremy Roenick, and Tony Amonte back in the day. Currently, I have white-hot burning hatreds for Ryan Kesler and Pat Kane and am indifferent to pretty much everyone else. Just have never been a fan of the players. I'll be rooting for Russia and Canada.

Question (and inferring that you're in the 95% of Jacket fans who have an undying hatred for Jeff Carter and the slightly smaller group who absolutely hates Rick Nash)

How are you managing to cheer for Canada with those 2 players?

I'd guess that the "Absolutely Hates Nash" group is substantially smaller.

As for me, I don't care who wins the medals, as long as our Russian Olympians play well.

Today Belarus won 3rd golden medal and bypassed Russia, they have only 2 so far.
After reading all their jealous comments about our success I'm not sure if I want Russia to win any more gold. People who confuse Belarusians for Russians and think they are same should read some of those internet debates, a lot of unexpected hatred is going on between 2 countries now.

Don't take it personally. I hear tell that folks over there confuse Canadians and Americans pretty often too. :)

Off course, and if you reread this thread you can see that they have a reason :) Some Americans are going to cheer for Canada in hockey, while it's impossible for Belarusian to root for Russia ahead of his country. Even more, all my Belarusian friends in the US are gonna cheer for Americans tomorrow. Russians beat us all the time in hockey, but we will always remember the only win over Russia at the World championship. Yeah, we beat them only once.
And today our national pride gets revenge. They've got 150 millions population and 230 sportsmen in Sochi, we've got 10 millions and about 30 Olympians. But the golds count is 3:2. That's our "miracle on the snow" :)

What a pathetic prime-time show Russians have made on their main TV channel after beating Slovenia.
They invited Tarasenko's grandpa, Kovalchuk's sister, Tereschenko's, Kulemin's and Belov's wives and kids, Varlamov's and Eremenko's parents... Fetisov and Nikolishin were among the guests. No relatives of the CBJ players were present though.
I mean, that was a nice show, but I would have thought that Russia has already won the gold if I didn't know that they just beat Slovenia.

I don't hate Nash, and don't think I've ever posted anything remotely close to that. Find the proof if you're going to call me out on this. I think the CBJ are 100% better off without him, but don't believe that constitutes "hatred". Also, he's always played much better for Canada anyway, so it's easy to root for him in this setting.

Carter is a bum and I hate him. No qualms about admitting that. That's one player in history that I've hated on Team Canada, compared to about 20 US players that send me into a seething rage.

I applaud this post... All national teams have good and bad fan perceptions of some players but if you're born an American, proud to be an American and have had family or friends who have died or bled for America then you should support our American athletes... doing otherwise smacks of some sort of bazaar sympathy for other nations or dislike of one’s own nation... crazy.

You should hope your American Olympians play well too Pete... what the heck is going on here? Columbus, Ohio, USA fans rooting for other nations teams to beat the USA? If so why? Have you people lost national pride? Are you people crazy?? unreal.

Club>Country

I root for the guys who wear my hometown jersey every day instead of guys who play for our country for a week.

You only have hometown jersey's because of your country... whatever...

The USA is set to play Russia, win or lose I'm all in for the USA!

This game is a bit difficult to watch with Bob in goal against USA. I don't want to see the USA NHL players beat Bob. I want Bob to be in their heads when the NHL starts up again. That won't happen if they light him up. So I am definitely conflicted on this one. Very different from prior Olympics where I was Team USA all the way.

Of course, at the same time, I don't want to see anything that makes Putin smile.

Loving this open ice. Makes the NHL look like they're playing in a shoe box. I want USA to win of course but it's a dilemma rooting for a team with Dustin Brown on it.
