Here is my dream offseason

1) buy out richards
2) sign Jussi Jokinen and Steve Ott, let Carcillo walk and trade Dorsett for change
3) replace Stralman with a 1 year deal on Dan Boyle
5) resign Boyle
6) let our former first rounder McIlrath get his shot in the NHL (I know what I just said)
7) trade Staal and Miller for Zibenajad and Neil
8) Bring back Diaz.

Nash - Stepan -Kreider
MSL - Zibenajad -Hagelin
Jokinen-Brassard-MZA
Ott-Moore-Neil

McD-Girardi
Boyle-Klein
Moore-McIllrath
Diaz

It might help to consider the other team's actual needs before making a proposal that gets you what YOU want.

The value isn't too bad, but OTT has no reason to trade Z and Neil for a guy who can walk in a year (and has no ties to Ottawa or reason to re-sign with a rebuilding team after going to the SCF) and a prospect that does nothing for them.

P.S. Do you really think Yakupov has no value? 30 GMs and every hockey analyst would laugh at that.

He's young, raw, and immature but he's got TONS of skill and TONS of potential.

Yakupov is literally worth nothing. Have you ever heard of Patrick Stefan? Yakupov makes the biggest bust in history look like a hall of famer.

Hyperbole.

Yakupov's value is lower than it has ever been, but he's not in Stefan territory. Too early to say that.

No one skinned RNH alive after scoring only 24 in 40 games with the Oilers last year.

Cuz yakupov is Russian.. It's so easy to tell the racism on hockey...

How about Craig Smith from Nashville? He'd probably come a lot cheaper (both in trade assets and money) than ROR and has some nice speed, fits within the age of the core.

Could probably get him + for Staal. Could replace Pouliot with Haggerty and have some money left over. My only problem is that it's not a massive improvement. Yes, we get young and get a very nice player in Smith, but I think he'd be a replacement for Richards, but not necessarily an upgrade in any category. I think the problem is that we just lack the cap for real upgrades.

Kreider - Step - Nash
Hagelin - Smith - MSL
Pouliot - Brass - Zuccs
Boyle - Moore - Dorsett
Carcillo

McD - Girardi
Nikitin - Stralman
Moore - Klein
Diaz

If the cap is at 69.8, we'd make it with $800,000 in space.

I mentioned Smith in another thread but didn't get much of a response. He's coming off a very solid year, and he's also friends with McDonagh and Stepan since they all were at Wisconsin together.

I think Haggerty is going to be a really interesting guy to watch in camp. He can score, skate, and play in the dirty areas without fear. If he can adapt to the speed of the pro-game, he could break out of camp with the team for at least a few games.

Also adds a righty shot which this team desperately needs. Plus, he likes to set up in the left slot on the power play (just like Stamkos and Ovechkin) which is what MSL loves to look for when he's working on the low right boards

I know him (not as friends, just know the guy). His low hockey IQ is a direct result of his low IQ in general. It's not his fault, but he just isn't the brightest bulb in the bunch. I don't think he is coachable. He's arrogant, cocky, and just not that smart. He has all the physical talent in the world, don't get me wrong, but he isn't smart enough to pool it together at the professional level. He won't get better until he grows up. And NYC is a terrible place to put a kid who is immature with a terrible work ethic.

Adding to it. He's the kind of guy who has enough natural talent to dominate lesser competition, but doesn't have the brains or patience to bring it at this level. Especially considering he has always been a defensive liability his whole career, a guy who isn't smart enough how to effectively play offense in the NHL plus is a defensive liability is generally out of a job. He's a nice guy off the ice, and I wish him well, I just don't want him in an organization that I'm a fan of because of the things I've listed above. A lot of other people who know him off the ice would say the same thing, he just isn't a very smart guy.

Then the question becomes: Who sits so he can get PP time? Nash, MSL, Stepan, Kreider, Brassard and Zucc are all deserving of PP time, so which one of them rides the pine so Haggerty can play there?

I like the potential for him to slot there, but I'm not so sure he'll be getting that time until he really proves himself. In the mean time, a guy who can finish from outside the circles would be a very welcome addition, even if it's only at even strength.

Didn't Stamkos have 16 goals his rookie year?

23, but he certainly didn't light the world on fire. Yakupov was more productive in his rookie year, although the sample size is smaller. Stamkos did score more down the stretch than he did at the start of his rookie year.

He started with something like 7 in 41 games, Melrose said he wasn't NHL ready, and then Barry was fired. Since then it's been Stamkos as we know him.

With this in mind, I made a post on the NSH boards to get their opinion.

They said Smith was their leading scorer, and despite seeking a top wing in a guy like Nash, I was told that it would take "a lot more" than Nash and his contract to get Smith out NSH.

With that in mind, I don't think there's much of a chance he comes to NY barring an overpayment. Nash + for Smith would be a mistake, as much as I think he'd do well in NY, never mind the fact that he's mostly played the wing for the Preds.

In summary--we'd be selling low on Nash and buying high on Smith.

Why is Nashville trading the Rangers Smith? Who was their 3rd leading scorer and play extremely well at the WC.

Not to mention he's only 24.

It was an idea. I felt he might come cheaper than ROR, but there's not a real fit in terms of being trading partners, so we'd ultimately end up paying more.

Coach Alain Vigneault said the decision had not been made on Richards, but that essentially is a matter of semantics.

The Rangers really have no choice. And it is more than the looming cap-recapture a few years down the road that will drive the call to end ties with the center one-third of the way into the nine-year contract he signed two summers ago.

The fact is, the Blueshirts do not have the space with which to accommodate a $6.67 million cap charge for a third-line center and ice a representative team, regardless of No. 19’s intangibles that actually were pretty darn tangible down the stretch and throughout the 26-game playoff run.

$53,187,500 committed to 12 players. Go ahead and put a roster together which includes Richards.

Absent Richards, there will be more responsibility on Derick Brassard in the middle. Chris Kreider, who came a long way in his official rookie season, will need to become more consistent. If, as seems likely, Brian Boyle leaves, the Rangers could use a youngster to fill his minutes. If Anton Stralman goes, the Blueshirts are going to need a young defenseman to step up.

“You have to,†Vigneault said when asked about the prospect of adding younger players to next year’s mix. “Look at L.A., with those two kids [Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli] and [Jeff] Carter were probably their most effective line.

“Hopefully we’re going to have a couple of guys pushing on the door, knocking to get into our dressing room.â€

One of them has to be J.T. Miller, the 21-year-old center who just could not earn a standing role in New York this season. The Rangers need him, with his combination of speed and size, to stake a claim to the third-line center role next season.

Miller did not show up in New York last September until the day training camp commenced. Most players returned to skate together at least two weeks before camp opened. His absence did not go unnoticed by his teammates. Next year, it is critical Miller be noticed for other reasons.

If I were Sather/Gorton,I would have told JT Miller to wake the **** up. Get your ass into NY in late August. When the veteran players on the team arrive in NY to start skating,we want to see you there. Get your ass out of Pittsburgh. Then Miller suffered a hamstring injury when camp officially started. Stop playing beer pong.

“I know what my role would be coming back here,†said Boyle, likely looking for a two- or three-year deal in the range of $3 million to $4 million per. “In the playoffs and on a team that’s going to win in May and June, it’s an important role. But everybody wants to score more goals.â€

Stralman was a top-four defenseman for the past two seasons, and is likely looking at an open-market value between $4 million to $5 million per on at least a three-year deal, if not longer.

Both players will get more term with those dollars. Boyle wants a bigger role.
