I'm definitely a huge fan of JT Miller. I don't like the game-to-game basis he's judged by, but the team did fine without him.

The question is how long is the window open to compete for a Cup? People talk about Detroit patience but they've been irrelevant since 2009.

They need a 50-point center who can anchor a PP. Miller isn't there yet. But where do you play him to give him a chance to blossom?

I think Miller was drafted to be a 3rd line center. Just not one year removed from a SCF.

Again, the only guy I advocate trading is Staal because of his likely contract demands and the distinct possibility Skjei will be NHL ready in two season.

Trade Staal for a center, resign Stralman and sign a veteran top-4 to replace Staal until Skjei is ready.

No guarantees. Only guarantee is Staal will command 6+, term and an NMC, and lots of teams will give him that as a UFA.

I keep reading all the lols on the main boards about "some team overpaying for Statsny." I really hope it's not going to be us.

Why? They have a (likely) 70-75 point RW who is going to perform that duty.

Who? Who plays the points on the PP?

Richards was critical to two deep playoff runs. We all bashed him but he was cut because of a dumb rule, not performance.

They need a good offensive center. There's no way around it.

Brooks is the only NYR writer who is ALWAYS doom and gloom. "Cash strapped" Rangers? 23M in cap is wuite alot especially with 4 of them RFAs. Sather just doesn't want to pay the prices for our UFAs

That's how Larry makes his paycheck. If things were going well for the Rangers he'd have nothing to write about.

Defense without Stralman is a faaaar deeper position than center is without Brassard.

First off, i never said don't sign Brassard. But while we are on it, he is an RFA. He has two options: 1-sign what we offer, 2-don't play for an entire season.

Anton Stralman is an UNRESTRICTED free agent. He can sign anywhere for what ever is offered to him.

Hassle of the 500K with Stralman and the Rangers lose their 3rd best defenseman. Then Staal, who is breaking down, becomes an UFA next summer. Are you offering him the 6 million he will command? For a depreciating player that doesn't fit the up-tempo system Vigneault has put in place.

Lose two of your top four defensemen in two sunmers, maybe less.

You are either committing to one or neither of Stralman and Staal. If you commit to one, make sure its the right one. Staal isn't the right one.

Its fine if you don't think I'm right. Lets see what happens. But don't be surprised when Staal becomes labelled as an albatross in a year or two by whoever signs him next summer.

Lebrun speculates that he'll either resign with the Avs, sign in St. Louis, or take the biggest offer.

Luckily for us we don't fall into any of those categories.

As far as Stralman goes his value lies somewhere between 3.8-4.2m he will get overpaid and as long as it's not us that's ok. Can't see him getting 5m but maybe. If that happens that's going to be a bad contract come July, 2nd.

Boyle can go try be a to line center on a basement team give me D. Moore at Boyle's current hit any day.

Pouliot will get a decent contact and could actually live up to it.

Our pro shots will find us some guys to fill the holes just like last summer when everyone was panicking.

Zucc already said term is more important to him than money (he wants to be here, and he wants the Rangers to be a SC contending team). and is willing to take less money for more term.. and Brooks is still saying Zucc is gonna want to get paid.

Look at the opening column on CapGeek. That's the average amount they could allocate to each player to fill out the rest of the roster. Then look at the teams around them. I'd say that's pretty cap strapped.

I like how Sidney Crosby is the site's 5th most popular buyout candidate.

I have to agree with what Electrocuted Cat has been posting and say that we should really focus on keeping Stralman over Staal. I'm not going to get into numbers but because I don't have patience for the whole cap geek thing, but Staal should be traded now before we get ****ed next year. We need to keep Stralman.

They could also use people like Miller, Fast, etc.. put Klein on the 2nd pair so they only have to worry about a 3D instead of a 2D to replace Stralman.. put Miller in Pouilot's spot etc. IF they wanted to bring in someone like a Stastny, they could.. that's all I'm saying. especially when the top 3 guys we need back are RFAs.

wtf Stralman is more important than Brassard?? So our centers would be... stepan, miller, moore? , lindbergh.. amazing

How is this even a thing.

Brassard is a restricted free agent. He will be a Ranger in 14-15 or play nowhere until July 1 2015.

Trade Staal to get ROR or a quality young potential top center, sign Stralman to an extension, and sign Ehrhoff to replace Staal.

This would be my ideal scenario. I think we would have to add a pick or a prospect with Staal but I'm all for it.
