he wont be available at our pick but having kempe and DLR play on the same line would have been amazing.

Who nkows if Kempe will be there or not?
In some mock drafts, he's available for us; in other, he's not...

kempe - dlr - mccaron
the bash bros line

Most rankings have Kempe around 25-35 so he is a realistic opition for the Habs...

this is an extremely accurate list, its probably the best one i've seen up until now. by the looks of things we're gonna end up with goldobin or lemieux
kempe is gonna get picked between 15-20 imo, he's a complete player with really good offensive upside and he plays the game with an edge. player's like that aren't available in the late 1st

he might even get picked earlier than that because he's a safe pick with relatively high upside, kinda like barbashev

I'm no prospects expert, but I find it odd with what I'm reading on him that there's no more talking about Nick Schmaltz on this board, considering where we draft. He looks like a solid pick.

Minor league scout Simon Boisvert believes Michael Dal Colle is this year's best talent:

Simon Boisvert @simonsnake70 · Jun 11

Is he alone in this?

Just looking at him reminds me of Leblanc. Please no.

I don't think he looks like him at all. Leblanc never had his vision or creativity. The way Schmaltz hangs on to the puck and waits for options to open is fantastic. His style almost reminds me of Getzlaf, offensively speaking (obviously without the massive size).

The only thing schmaltz has in common with Leblanc is height and weight.. Schmaltz actually has offensive touch vision and talent.

Dal colle is my favorite prospect in the draft and I would not be surprised if he ends up the best of the class

Considering he's about 10 months younger than Reinhart and Draisatl, I definately take him if I have the 2nd overall pick.

FC's scouting report on Schmaltz:

42 NICK SCHMALTZ
POSITION: Right Wing
SHOOTS: Right
TEAM: Green Bay (USHL)
BORN: February 23, 1996
VITALS: 6’-0†/ 170 Lbs
STATS: 55 GP 18 G 45 A 63 PTS 16 PIM
SCOUTING REPORT: One of the biggest enigmas in the draft, highly skilled Nick Schmaltz
has the talent to be one of the highest picks in the draft, but his consistency, attitude and inability
to perform in the playoffs for Green Bay will force him to fall. Schmaltz is an explosive skater,
who at times will appear to be going at 0 MPH, and then all of a sudden, he’ll dart up the ice
and get into loose space. He has quick feet and strong acceleration both with and without the
puck. Schmaltz is a highly creative, highly skilled winger with very good stick skills and several
handfuls of nifty tricks to use with the puck on his stick to make opposing players look silly. He
has great awareness with the puck, and sees the ice and play very well. He is able to locate
even the slightest of passing lanes and he can create scoring chances out of seemingly nothing.
He is a great playmaker and passer, who also has the ability to finish. He is elusive without the
puck and has the ability to sneak into open space around the net like an unseen ghost. He is
an effective backdoor finisher, and he also has a hard, quick wrist shot that he’ll get into good
position to take. Schmaltz lacks consistency in every part of the game, but most notably his willingness
to crash and bang for the puck, or get back and help out defensively. He tends to ignore
the physical aspect of the game and at times will just seem unwilling to get engaged in the play
on the ice. He lacks care and awareness in his own end and needs to improve his attitude and
overall effort if he is going to be an NHLer.
NHL POTENTIAL: Top-Six Scoring Winger

I think I'd rather trade down than select this type of player.

Ekblad #1, Dal Colle #2, Bennett#3, Reinhart #4 and so on. The Habs pick @ 26th OV none of the preceding players. Hopefully Fabbri if available or Kempe/Pettersson, Chatham, Tuch or Pollock.

The Habs playoff drive certainly showed their need for defensive help and top six problems. Short of signing Vanek & Stastny to the top six, and possibly trading up to the #1 OV pick and getting Ekblad, it's going to be a long road.

If in fact they consider moving up for Ekblad then signing Markov is imperative as a role model. That alleviates one UFA IMO, which then makes it a choice betwixt Vanek & Stastny. Both have shown great things when matched with Pacioretty and Galchenyuk. Stastny of course is a great faceoff center and has the versatility of playing all forward positions, VS Vanek that can score goals prolifically and make plays. Either being good for the Habs depending upon whom is traded for Ekblad or #1 OV, a particularly nice draft spot to gain with the 26th pick also.

It may be a weak draft but it sure could change the Habs future outlook in a hurry, getting a starting Dman for the 2nd pairing alongside Emelin playing his natural leftside defence. Why not break in our rookie dmen in the 2015 draft year, if the Habs miss the playoffs next season there are as many as 8 players that would be top five worthy this year.

This summer could be a defining time for the Habs and Bergevin now has a full grasp on the pulse of his team & organization, to wit moves need to be made for young talent to step up, now time better than after a long run like this year. That proves our GM knows what has to happen, in order to improve upon that finish. Standing pat won't accomplish anything, Bergevin & Tallon know this as old NHL veteran's in the game.

Only 15 days until the Draft, it sure would be nice to pick first again, 1980 was a long time ago and we missed Denis Savard that year. Subban/Tinordi, Ekblad/Beaulieu, Emelin/Didier/Thrower on defence in 3-4yrs sounds solid on defence. By then the forwards taken the last couple of yrs. will arrive to hammer home a SC.:handclap::handclap::handclap:

I only seen Red Deer play twice here this season and Fleury didn't play one game, problem with the WHL games teams playing 3 games in 4 nights, Victoria is usually the last game they play. But if he can skate like J Bo then he's worth moving up for.

He skates really REALLY well and he has good stickwork, its scary how much he looks like j-bo. I think he'll end up being a 30'ish point 25+ mins shutdown dman, the perfect compliment to Subban. He plays so efficiently.

Then I really did miss his good play and he probably will be taken by the 7th pick or earlier. Edmonton will be all over him or Sanheim, that's a given with their need on defence. Both playing for teams in Alberta, Mac would be watching them like a birddog.

its hard to place him honestly, in my eyes hes easily a top 10 talent but i can see him dropping all the way down to washington/dallas (13-14). at that point he's a clear BPA pick

but yea i can see edmonton moving some pieces around in hopes of snagging him, he's not a flashy player but he's the type of guy you can build a core around because he's so solid

Moving up to Ekblad?!?! How? You are optimistic!
This year, the habs need to find a #3 or 4Dmen and a top 6 forward (winger).
Next year, same thing (hoping for a top2 dmen).
Yes, we need a trade up in the first and add a 2nd round pick.
For next year, we will not make the playoffs and select a top 3 forward player.
It's the only way to be competitive with de Sabres in 3-4 years... Or stay in the middle for long...
