That game is easy to play but say Kings had even one of those players in 2007-08. Are they bad enough to get Doughty?

I said it was too easy to play that game... but hypothetically had things not turned out this good, who for the sake of thinking this would you take?

Josh Ho-Sang, yes please.

He's a good player but he's quite risky, especially in the first round. I just don't see any standout qualities with this kid that puts him over the top at this point.

I'm curious why the Kings get the 29th pick? Shouldn't it be 30th? Or did somebody forfeit a pick in first round?

Apparently, I have something in common with the #1 ranked prospect (don't know his name). We both can't do a single pull up. Actually, I can do a pull up these days. I can do about 5 or so. But that is crazy to hear a guy who is that highly touted is lacking physical strength. Makes me think I really had a shot at NHL... if only the coach didn't hate me... and that nagging injury!

New Jersey has 30th in the first round - remember the penalty they received?

No, the NHL in its ultimate wisdom simply decided to allow the Devils to "ga head" and take the 30th pick in this years draft. They reversed their decision to take away a 1st round pick at all.

correct, the league decided not to fully penalize NJ since other teams had been giving out the same kind of contracts NJ was being penalized for,

I dunno, maybe not Ho-Sang in particular, but I feel like if the Kings are going to pick in the late first consistently, you've gotta swing for the fences from time to time. Lottery teams are going to consistently land those great 1st-2nd liners, you have to develop your own, but you have to find a way to get 1st line talent at a cheaper price. A guy like Ho-Sang could be that. I'm big on him though, we had a discussion a few pages back, and there have been a few interesting writeups today. I will say I become more and more intrigued with what's available around our pick and draft day will be pretty exciting in that regard, but if there is one franchise that can take a cocky kid and turn him into something special, it would be us.

Based on the article I read today, it's way more than cockiness. I mean that's there for sure but it's the victim complex that bothers me the most. It's everyone elses fault, it's cause I have "personality", cause I'm black, because this or this that teams don't like me. It's never his fault. And it's not like this a complete player that's already a first liner. He is a project, he has quite a few holes in his game.

If you want to "swing for the fences" with loads of talent at 29 look at Barbashev, Goldobin, Fabbri, Scherbak, Milano or even a Point, De Leo, Kase. IMO.

Yeah, I read a little bit of that too, kind of all over the map personality wise--previously I thought he was just cocky but it seems like he's a bit of a head case in different ways. Though you can't teach the raw talent, you can harness the other stuff.

I agree though, if not Ho-Sang in particular, any of those guys that would be available at those slots are intriguing in different ways, excited to see how it turns out. And obviously a guy like Tanner Pearson is working out just fine so I'm confident we'll still do well there--I think I'm just verbalizing the idea that drafting 'safe' guys in the first round bugs me. I know that's not really what bmr was saying at all, but it follows in line with my pet peeve about defensive defensemen and two-way forwards getting drafted high.

Massive red flags for Ho-Sang (and not just from recent articles; this has been from articles for the past couple years). You can teach defensive responsibility and how to prepare your body and what-not, but if the attitude isn't solid then that's a non-starter (at least that's what it seems in this organization, and I agree with that philosophy). I would be extremely surprised if the Kings have him ranked even in the first 30 on their list.

Yeah - there are some potential character issues there. Not a DL kind of player. I think it's better if we take risks on guys in later rounds. We don't need home runs, we just need quality guys. It seems like that's when teams really get into trouble when they get too far off the map. Like DT and company did in 2003.

I stopped caring who we draft. We never draft who anyone ever thinks we will draft anyway
