Dear Fox 11 -
I would personally like to thank you, on behalf of all Kings fans and semi-intellectual people, for showing pure class in your reporting. You might wanna buckle up because this is going to be a doozy.
Back in 2012, entering the season, the LA Kings (a hockey team based in Los Angeles) had huge aspirations. They had acquired Mike Richards (a hockey player) in a blockbuster deal that was seen as one of the finishing touches to an already fantastic young group of (hockey) players; led by Dustin Brown (not the tennis player), Jonathan Quick (not Swift, he has no relation to the malevolent country singer who can’t keep a man), Anže Kopitar (foreign name, I know, that’s hard to grasp), and stud defenseman Drew Doughty (not Brad and not Doty). Fast forward to the playoffs and the Kings were heavy underdogs against the Vancouver Canucks (a hockey team). They thoroughly embarrassed them, along with the St. Louis Blues, en route to a Western Conference Finals appearance against the Phoenix Coyotes (mess this one up all you want, none of us care). This is where you come in. In one segment, the professionally unprofessional Liz Habieb did the following -
Called Anže Kopitar, Anže Kopidor, but she did correct herself so I’ll let that one slide.
Said Dwight King “scored a touchdown with the ballâ€. What planet are you on?
Called Drew Doughty, Brad Doty.
Closed out the segment with a pre-lockout NHL logo.
It gets better. Fast forward to the King’s magical run this year (in which they dispatched three of the best teams in the entire league in three consecutive seven-game series) and you’re back at it again. After the Kings eliminated the Chicago Blackhawks in OT to win the seventh game and ultimately the series, you ran a segment that said “LA Kings Headed To Playoffs - Tickets In High Demand.†Just pathetic. Then you have an interview with Kings and hockey legend Luc Robitaille (Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc! You won’t get that…) who also currently holds the title of President, Business Operations, Alternate Governor with the Kings, that had the caption - “Conny Marinos - Kings Fan.†Just quit.
Now I realize people in the media (specifically news anchors) have zero need to get facts straight, but in the real world where I work, I’m held accountable for every action I make on the job. And when I mistakes, I’m reprimanded. What’s transpired over the last three years has shown me a few things - you don’t care about your job, the people who you work for, the news you’re trying to relay, and the fans of the LA Kings (again, a hockey team, catching on?). I don’t find it humorous at all and any other true Kings fan would agree. It’s beyond unprofessional, to the point of pure laziness. You are too lazy to do simple research.
I remember after the Kings won the Stanley Cup they visited Dodger Stadium. Vin Scully was extremely excited to have them there, but led his segment with a bit of trepidation. He admittedly said he wasn’t very familiar with hockey and then followed that statement with a few minutes on the history of Lord Stanley’s Cup, the Kings, and ultimately, their special run. He did the research, and in doing so, showed us all what we’ve known for years - he’s a true professional who takes pride in his work - something Fox doesn’t. You don’t care, you aren’t professional, and you certainly don’t take pride in anything, sans being unprofessional.
I realize talking about a team with 27 wins and an equally atrocious .329 winning percentage (I’m literally laughing out loud) seems interesting to “Angelenos†everywhere, but how about talking about a team that actually knows how to win, be successful, and contend in the year 2014. You know, a relevant team. Google is your friend, use it next time.
- Kings fans everywhere.
