I don't think its worth even a second thought where Rychel would fit if he made the team this year. Maybe if we didn't have Hartnell, but as is what exactly is Rychel going to bring that we don't already have? He's got some serious developing to do to change that.

DMac was someone I loved to cheer for but he was getting a little more injury prone last year, is getting older, and for those reasons the trade doesn't bother me much. Wish Comeau wasn't in PIT, thought skille was a good 13th forward, Gibbons seems like a decent replacement … pretty happy with umberger for hartnell (would have been happy with umberger for a burger) I really hope JK sees the core as at least:

dubie
JJ
foligno
jenner
murray
tyutin
calvert
bob

Also very against the Tyutin trade proposals. Team plays bad D without him. There has already been a lot of turnover in the last year or so, and lots of youth/lack of NHL experience in the D: savard, erixon, murray, prout …

Tyutin is one of those players you figure out how important they are once they leave.

Fair enough. So how do you lineup the defence? JJ, Erixon, Murray, and Tyutin all are LHD. How do you divide 60 minutes between them? Or do you put JJ on the right side?

Just forgetting one major player in your core :sarcasm:

Kind of a snarky response.
Let me rephrase my question to see if I can get a better answer-

Where do you see Rychel fitting into the line-up when he is ready or are you saying that he is never going to be ready and we should trade him now?

Sorry I actually thought you meant next year. Long term he'll probably be an NHLer, hopefully similar to Hartnell.

The tricky thing relative to Foligno's contract is that I'm sure he's more valuable to the team than Hartnell or a healthy Horton will be. If Rychel is pressing, I'd sooner retain salary to dump one of those two than let Foligno go, unless he wants $5m+. So when Rychel becomes ready Foligno is the last person I'd move for space.

Rychel is not a complete player you want in a defensive or depth capacity. He's either racking up points or he's not helping. I say Rychel is up and down from the AHL until he's better than Hartnell or Horton. Then you move one of those two. But Rychel is not so good that he has any effect on the Foligno negotiations.

I'd like to see how it works out first, sure. but if they're not going to play any LHD on the right side, I hope they trade a LHD (tyutin/erixon) for a RHD, because none of Wiz, Prout, and Savard are top-pairing defensemen… There must be one of tyutin/erixon/Johnson/Murray that can play the other side…?

JJ's played on the right for much of his time here, with Tyutin on his left. Then for the playoffs JJ was switched back to the left and paired with Savard, which actually worked out great. Some d-men are pretty good at playing either side no problem, so the handedness issue might not be as big as some make it out to be. The bigger factor is do you consider Tyutin-JJ or JJ-Savard to be the better top pairing. I think we could use a bit more time to figure that out.

That's why I say we would sign him for more years..
No, you said "and hoping to resign him for more years". So if Jarmo is hoping to sign him to a new deal then I wouldn't because it would be a lot to move for a potential rental. Too much risk. If you meant a "sign and trade or Ottawa gives us permission to talk to Ryan on a new deal" then I for sure would do the deal.

I would do the deal on a sign-and-trade as well. I'd even do a deal where we'd give up a 2nd plus a conditional 1st if we re-sign him.

Meh. Why not just sign him UFA if he wants to be here, otherwise forget him? Ryan hasn't been very good the last few years, I don't think he's worth giving up a lot of assets for.

Capgeek says we've signed Savard for 2 years, $1.3 AAV.

Haven't seen a single report to confirm this.

I tweeted Portzline this and 10 minutes later he is now tweeting CBJ confirms the Savard signing as broken by CapGeek. Good deal at a good price, I was expecting a little more.

If that's true, Jarmo is a magician at re-signing RFA's in the low range.
Cam, Calvert,Prout, now Savard. Golo & Erixon to go. Noted that today's Dispatch mentioned that talks were well underway with Golo & Savard- no mention of Erixon.

Jarmo's MO seems to be clear on all RFAs - it's going to be a 2-year deal at a manageable cap hit. I fully expect RyJo's deal to go the same way.

I agree, though with Savard/other signings being a bit lower than expected, it does make me wonder if the offer they made Johansen is a lot lower than we've all been thinking and he really was offended by it...

So the question is - is that just Porty being Porty (either a reporting oversight or a lame DMC attempt) or is there something to it? I am interested in the possible disconnect between fans' perception an the organization's re: Erixon.

I wouldn't say Savard signing is lower than expected. His salary doubled on this contract. 2 years for his cap hit is a fair amount for someone who showed he finally belongs in the NHL full time.

When you say it that way, yeah I guess you're right. I guess I was just expecting closer to 1.5, but I was also expecting Prout to be slightly higher as well, so maybe I'm just off target on my contract assumptions this year.
