Sarcasm? If not, why do you think that?

They won primarily with these 23-26 year old guys that we're letting go. They look to be giving a lot of the younger kids the ice time. I agree that this is the right way to go but it's not going to lead to wins.

I'm saying let's err on the side of clarity. And Jarmo's English is superb, he knew full well he was deflating perceived criticisms regarding not being active in free agency by saying he got the equivalent of a free agent. It's as political as it is nuanced, can't you see that?

This is a really, really lame thing to get worked up about. He made his big acquisition in a trade, not in free agency. It's not abnormal to equate the two. Other GMs have said similiar things a bunch of times.

It has nothing to do with Jarmo's ability to speak English.

When do they traditionally add those AHL players during the offseason?

I mean, maybe they just haven't gotten around to fleshing out the minor league roster.

I agree though, as is Springfield looks to be in for a long season unless something miraculous occurs like Forsberg coming and playing out of his mind.

wait, didn't you get worked up about a pro golfer being in a practice once?

It was a 1 for 1 trade of forwards. It was a good trade, it was not a huge trade, and it had negligible effect on cap space. And a FA signing could have complemented the trade. To the particular narrative that says once again, Jarmo whiffed on acquiring an impact player at a time when one could be had, parading a 1 for 1 trade like it's an FA signing is shoddy.

Clearly I agree that English is not at all part of this discussion, I'm not the one who brought it up.

Anyway, I guess not very many people interpret it this way.

I wonder if Jarmo would have traded Umbie had he not rquested a trade. Food for thought.

Again, Loui Eriksson is NOT better than AA or Atkinson. He's also not the type of player that we need or would help at all. He's not the same player he was on Dallas a few years ago. He's a pretty well rounded guy but he's more of a set-up guy than he is a scorer. That's what I think we could use.

Yes on Kulemin. I think he could be had for cheaper than what most of these guys in his skill level are going for. Possibly the biggest bang for your buck in FA this year. Could slide in on any of our top 3 lines. Idk what he's looking for in years and money but a 3 year 7.5-9 mil contract I would be happy with.

Depth guys I like for the #CBJ: Winnik, Fiddler, Moss, Handzus, Cleary at fwd. MDZ, Diaz, Ranger, Tallinder at D

Winnik kind of isnt good. I agree with Fiddler, although that just makes not signing DMac even less understandable (guess who is also 34?). Not even Datsyuk and Zetterburg could make Cleary relevant. Zeus is too slow and awful. I wouldnt mind some help at defenseman though

Leino, Jovo, Richards, Ehroff, Ribeiro, all UFA signings, all bought out.

Briere, Parenteau traded for each other, both UFA signings. (Briere was also bought out from the deal he signed as a UFA)

LeCavalier is being desperately shopped, UFA signing. Remember the Preds UFA spending spree last year? Hyuuuuge busts in Matt Hendricks (already traded) Matt Cullen and Viktor Stalberg.

What "impact" player did Jarmo whiff on? There were only a few impact players available, none had any interest in Columbus and all went for absurd prices. Statsny went to his hometown Blues for $7 million a year. Niskanen went to play for the one of his old coaches with the Caps, for an insane amount of money and term. Vanek turned down big money and wanted to play in Minnesota. Moulson wanted to go back to Buffalo, and it was basically a given he'd go back. Jarmo didn't "whiff" on any of these guys, not even close.

I have issues with Jarmo too but to say he "whiffed" in free agency is beyond disingenuous.

Yes, that is a lot of dead weight in there. The group as a whole, not each individual player. I have also posted that the dead weight does not include DMac. There is a lot more than a single post in the conversation but just looking at that lone thread I can understand why you would conclude that.

To be clear... I do not think DMac is dead weight. I would have preferred he was re-signed but I don't have an issue with him not being re-signed. Others do and that's OK. I won't argue against that as I could support that position as well.

I agree with most of your statement, although it's hard to "whiff" if you don't take a swing. That said, prices were pretty crazy yesterday and I guess I'm okay with Jarmo sitting on the sidelines. However, I'm like many on here that we need another skilled piece, I'd like to see a signing or trade to fill that need. Jarmo is going to have to fill some depth as it is, so there's always a chance.

I'm glad we weren't part of the madness yesterday, I don't support any but the sanest FA signings given this team right now. But Jarmo ought to just say that. I find his bait and switch attempt dishonest.
