I agree with trading Anisimov AFTER this season.
None of the trades I have seen proposed here clearly make us much better. Most are lateral type moves.
Look, I like Arty, but if you have the chance to upgrade this club, you shake his hand, thank him and wish him well. It's likely that most of what is proposed here has a snowballs chance in hell, but if you have a chance to acquire a player like Patrick Sharp or Logan Couture or Joe Pavelski and anyone of their ilk, Artem Anisimov would never be a sticking point. You make that kind of deal every day and twice on Sunday.
The stated goal for this summer is to get smarter and faster. I'll be very interested to see how that gets accomplished. If it costs AA, but the team gets closer to the vision expressed by the FO, then I'll be fine with it.
There are several interesting names being thrown around that could be upgrades to the top 6: Perron, Yakupov, L. Erikkson, Pavelski, Couture. Though it is likely that some of these players aren't actually available or the price will be prohibitive, I am interested in seeing what Jarmo may be able to swing. From my perspective, FA possibilities are less appealing (Cammy, Vrbata) but no assets are being moved so that may be worth it. Excited at the possible player movement this offseason.
Not completely true. You are likely to have to pay the FA more money which is a big asset too.

This draft/offseason is an important one. Fresh off the less then impressive trade deadline Jarmo needs to make some good moves. If we miss the playoffs this upcoming year, all that goodwill will be gone. They ran the commercials over and over of JD talking about needing to build a better team to compete with the Pens and such, time to actually live up to those words. And as we're seeing from the level the Kings/Hawks played we still have a ways to go, so I want to see an aggressive offseason to make this team a cup contender, not just one that squeaks into the playoffs.
Of course I agree $ matters...however, you did read that I said no assets are being moved...the lack of moving existing players was my point.
Foligno after next season, Arty after the following.
If it were up to you this team would be known as the Columbus Hotel California.
Exactly how do you ice a team with both of them plus Wennberg,Rychel,Bjorkstrand and maybe Dano? I suppose Rychel-Wennberg-Bjorkstrand would make a hell of a 4th line but really do you see that happening?
If we add a free agent F or two this year their continuing as Jackets for the long term becomes less likely imo.
I definitely see Arty being a tradeable asset more next year than this and I see Foligno as the more likely of the two to stay but I wouldn't be surprised if they are both gone two years from now (or sooner). A lot depends on the young guys development but right now I wouldn't assume they are here for the long haul.
And why would you want to expel a late 20 something player for every kid? I would be shocked if all of those kids turn out as effective and versatile as Foligno, and I wouldn't be surprised if none of them become as effective at physical play, puck control and leadership.
Maybe if you took the comment in whole rather than cherry picking a piece of it you'd understand better.
My point was IF we add a FA or two AND keep Arty and Foligno AND add the kids we will have a roster size of 26 or so. We can't do everything and I see Arty and Foligno as odd men out IF we add FA's and the kids develop as hoped.

Well thats the thing though, JK has no track record, what i've seen so far is luke warm. I was fine with trading Gaborik if he was replaced, but he wasnt which was a big mistake IMO. If "protecting the future" because your main goal, you're never going to win anything. You have to take risks at times, and you take them when the situation warrants it, IMO a playoff push is that time. And as we saw with many of the trades, (Gabby, Molsen, and Vanek), it was a buyers market, I sure as hell hope the tires were at least kicked on other options. The verdict is in for me on the trade and it was a D- grade mainly for the fact we had to take on Frattin AND pay part of Gaborik's contract, that portion is just mind blowing to me.From JD and JK's track record, I don't see why they wouldn't live up to their word. The team obviously took a step this season and you're right, they need to take another step forward next season.
I still think the trade deadline is being overblown. IMO the team played better and more focused after the trade deadline without Gabby. Jury is still out for me on the deal. If the purpose of the deal was to create flexibility to make this club better, then Jarmo better step up.
If they are looking for aggressive, hard working, smart players, I would expect the same thing from the front office. Practice what you preach. Jarmo has been touting that he wants to "protect the future of the franchise" well then I expect smartly constructed deals and signings. I hope he sticks to his guns and doesn't sell the farm, it would be shooting the organization in the foot.
It's not cherrypicking. That's the exact point I'm disagreeing with. I don't think Foligno should be the odd man out even if all that other stuff happens.
Okay, I can uderstand that. But if we do add a FA or two and the kids develop who is the odd guy out? Cam is the only other guy I can see who has any trade value that we might be willing to part with. Of course maybe the FA's become Gabby-like and they go right back out.
