2014 - 2015 Coyotes Roster Part 5

I thought DM said dollar for dollar deals? If so, not sure how we acquire Erikson? With draft picks/other assets sure. he would help us a lot though.

Korpi's salary would have to go back. still puts us $2 M short on actual dollars. players with the type of upside that would interest Boston would be those we see fighting for one of the remaining roster spots. Not sure if LaPlante has enough of an upside to tempt Boston. Dauphin might be someone who draws interest. Maybe a MacInnis? I'm hoping not Lessio.

I think the following are locks to be on the opening night roster barring injury.

Forwards: Vermette/Hanzal/Vitalle/Gagner/Doan/Korpi/Erat/Bods/Domi

9 forwards I think play all the time including Domi. I don't see how they can send him back to juniors and if he is here I think Tip will have to play him at least initially. Maybe some where during the season Domi gets healthy scratched here and there if he is slumping. At his talent level, he can't be scratched like Runblad all year.

The last 3 forward spots will be a combination of washed up vets (Crombeen/Chip/Moss) and rookies. It will be a revolving door of 10 players in and out or healthy scratched all year. Who ever plays well that game plays the next, who ever does not is healthy scratched or shuffled back and forth to the AHL. Not sure it matters who starts, is healthy scratched, or in the AHL at the start of the year.

On D: OEL/Yandle/Z/Stone in for sure. Gormley/Summers/Schlemko/Murphy have to play well to stay in the line up. I see those 4 being shuffled until somebody steps up. With an injury, we are at 7 D with only one healthy scratch, so i think all 8 players will get plenty of ice time this year.

I am still most worried about our PK. That is the one area we need the most improvement in my opinion. I am not sure that has been addressed this off season, other than crossing our fingers and hoping Smith is better. If Smith is not injury free and a top 10 goalie this year, we will be picking top 5 next year. DD might bounce back but we can't expect much from him other than decent play)fingers crossed).

Chiarelli is one of the best GMs in the league. If Eriksson is available, we won't be stealing him from the Bs even if they are looking to shed cap.

Love that 6 of 8 defensemen were drafted by us.

The 2 that werent (Z and Schlemko) got their real breakthrough with the Coyotes anyway so I'd consider it a fully home grown defense corps. In the past it's usually only been 1 or 2, not 6 to 8 of them..

Funny how Klinkhammer is the whipping boy when people were pretty happy about him getting signed after his 20 game stint last year.

I'm willing to bet McMillan will be the new whipping boy next season.

The speedy, gritty and defensively sound McMillan who plays for us is the same speedy, gritty and defensively sound McMillan who played in Anaheim for 91 games prior to the Lombardi trade.

McMillan's PK ablity alone makes him more valuable than Klinkhammer, but in the end, the simple fact is that McMillan already had nearly 5 times of a bigger sample size of fairly consistent play compared to Klink before suiting up as a Yote. I'm certainly not expecting McMillan to be a 10g/30 point forward - but someone who flies up and down the ice every shift and plays stingy defense. Any offensive production will just be icing.

McMillan can actually kill penalties, and played pretty much the same way in Anaheim. Additionally, he had nearly 100 games of NHL experience before coming to Phoenix as opposed to Klinkhammer's 16.

Also, we pretty much know for a fact that Klinkhammer is going to suck, but McMillan could actually be a very effective player, if he can continue playing the style of game he's played for the last 120+ games in the NHL.

Edit: Pi went full wizard, and beat me to it. ^^

Pretty good response. He did show all of this type of play last season.

I just thought we all learned our lesson about getting super excited about a guy whose play was motivated by the desperation of trying to keep his spot in the line-up. Like I said about Klinkhammer in the past, I hope he can be able to bring that type of play consistently.

Jacob Markstrom was placed on waivers by Vancouver, who would you rather have, he's 6'6'', the type of goalie that Burke could really do something with I think.

There isn't anyway we'd go get him, but I think Burke could so wonders for him.

Hodgman?

We are in the bottom third for penalty minutes. A healthy Z and a healthy Smith will go a long way towards improving our pk. We don't need a new system, we need a healthy team.

I'm excited to see Hodgman on the ice today. (hoping, anyway). I wonder if he is defensively sound.
