What is your countries league rule re import players / is there any limitation?

For example, Briançon seems to have nearly as many foreign nationals as french players while Tappara only has 3. Seems logical that there are less non-Finnish players given the country's depth but is that a consequence of talent available or a limitation set by the Liiga? Curious about the other leagues too.

Elitserien/SHL used to have a limit of 2 non-EU players but removed it two years ago.
Fans usually bash teams with many foreign players and little talent in their youth teams though. "Köpelag" (teams trying to buy their way to success) is a very common derogatory term here.

In the NLA you can use up to 4 foreign players in each game.
You may not use more then 8 foreign players over the course of a whole season.

I'm a bit late to the party, but as the link on the OP delievers a "page not found" and i couldn't find anything on the official site: What will the modus be like in the upcoming years? Will they go with the "founders" again, or will it represent the standings from the various national leagues (that's what i assume when i read the name)?

From what I've read, the founders will have a place in the CHL for three years (this year included), so when that period has passed, they will base the CHL-teams fully on the previous season's standings.

The impression I have is that there are more than 4 players. Are there a lot of french-Canadians with dual citizenship, for example?

On average 4'000.

Link for the top 10 attendance by teams (and not by location but Nottingham did play both of their games at home):
http://www.championshockeyleague.net/page/statistics/teamstats/#attendance

CHL should really disclose that number by game. In fact, as said by others above, their whole stat website needs work: too little info and unpractical.

Thanks.

Yes, I agree on this website thing. Attendance should be shown here, like under the score, along with arena and city where the game is played. http://www.championshockeyleague.net/page/gamecenter/IHM400J25/

Also, what I don't like - when you hover over "clubs" section at upper menu, it opens and closes for like 3 seconds, you can't find a club you are looking for, you have to opet it few times :D

If you played your first licensed hockey in Switzerland you do not count against that total. These players are mostly sons of (former) coaches. But it's not like every team has 10 guys like that.

Maybe because you're watching CHL you're getting that impression. There are no foreigner restrictions here if I recall correctly.
The teams are allowed to have more foreigners on their roster (8 in a season) but only 4 per game.

Finnish Liiga does not have any limits this year. Some years ago it was 3 non european players, but unlimited European players.

Are there a different sett of rules during the CHL? Maybe I'm just imagining things. :)

So who do you really consider the favourites to win this?

I have only watched a few games, but Sparta Prag really impressed me against Växjö.

Kärpet seems to be the favourite? Växjö showed they had no idea how to play against a czech team

We lost 1 game and it already feels like we won't get through the group stage. Unless we surprise in Prague..

Luleå/Linköping/Frölunda seems to be good, but they got easy groups and I've only seen them against crappy teams

I'm simply going to play the odds. It seems more than likely that SHL will have the highest representation of teams from the leagues involved in the elimination rounds. Once in the elimination stage it could go ether way. Any one of Frölunda, Växjö, Linköping, Skellefteå or Luleå is my pick. ... Just for the hell of it, let's say Skellefteå :)

I've been working on my "dream CHL" layout until now, so I thought I would publish it and see what you guys think!

As you may recognize, I tried to copy as much as possible from the UEFA Champions League system

Winning team got a direct spot in the group stage (The league it's from will get one more spot)

Russia: 3 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Sweden: 3 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Finland: 3 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Switzerland: 3 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Czech Republic: 3 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Germany: 3 teams +1 (Playoff round)

Austria: 2 teams +1 (Playoff round)

Slovakia: 1 team +1 (Playoff round)
Norway: 1 team +1 (Playoff round)

Belarus: 0 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Latvia: 0 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Denmark: 0 teams +1 (Playoff round)
Ukraine: 0 teams +1 (Playoff round)

Great Britan: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)
France: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)
Italy: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)
Poland: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)
Croatia: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)
Slovenia: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)
Hungary: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)
Netherlands: 0 teams +1 (3rd round)

Lithuania: 0 teams +1 (2nd round)
Romania: 0 teams +1 (2nd round)
Estonia: 0 teams +1 (2nd round)
Spain: 0 teams +1 (2nd round)

Serbia: 0 teams +1 (1st round)
Iceland: 0 teams +1 (1st round)
Belgium: 0 teams +1 (1st round)
Bulgaria: 0 teams +1 (1st round)
Turkey: 0 teams +1 (1st round)
Ireland: 0 teams +1 (1st round)
Luxembourg: 0 teams +1 (1st round)
Bosnia: 0 teams +1 (1st round)

So if we would've used it this season, it would've looked something like this (some lower league teams might be wrong):

Playoff round:
Ak Bars Kazan vs Brynäs
Saipa/Jokerit vs Brainçon
Genève-Servette vs Nürnberg
Plzen vs Ritten/Renon
Vienna Capitals vs Sanok
Slovan Bratislava vs Medvescak Zagreb
VÃ¥lerenga vs Olimpija Ljubljana
Dinamo Minsk vs SønderjyskE
Dinamo Riga vs Donbass Donetsk

Third round:
Nottingham vs Energija Elektrenai
Brainçon vs Tilburg Trappers
Ritten/Renon vs Corona Brasov
Sanok vs Székesfehérvár
Medvescak Zagreb vs Viking Sport
Olimpija Ljubljana vs E. Bakh Vitoria/Gasteiz

Second round:
Energija Elektrenai vs Partizan Beograd
Corona Brasov vs Vikingar
Viking Sport vs Liege Bulldogs
E. Bakh Vitoria/Gasteiz vs CSKA Sofia

First round:
Partizan Beograd vs Tornado Luxembourg
Vikingar vs Stari Grad Vukovi
Liege Bulldogs vs Flyers IHC
CSKA Sofia vs Izmir

.. And after a quick simulation, the groups could've looked something like this:

Group A:
Metallurg Magnitogorsk
Växjö
----------
Tappara
Genève-Servette

Group B:
Skellefteå
Fribourg-Gottéron
----------
Kosice
Plzen

Group C:
Kärpät
Sparta Praha
----------
Ak Bars Kazan
Slovan Bratislava

Group D:
ZSC Lions
SKA St. Petersburg
----------
Trinec
Vienna Capitals

Group E:
Zlin
Stavenger
----------
Krefeld
Olimpija Ljubljana

Group F:
Ingolstadt
Salzburg
----------
Jokerit
Dinamo Riga

Group G:
JYP Jyväskylä (previous winner)
Dynamo Moscow
----------
Hamburg
Lukko

Group H:
Frölunda
Bolzano
----------
Kloten
Dinamo Minsk

The champions of the top 6 leagues (with 3 group stage team directly qualified) will get a first seed into the groups. After that, 2nd seeded teams will be placed 2nd, 3rd seeded 3rd and playoff teams are 4th seeded.

With this system, there will be two groups with two teams from the "Seed 2" and one group with two fourth seeded teams. As it looks, the top two teams from each group qualifies for the 16th finals!

Some people may wonder why some of the European KHL-teams are in early rounds. The reason for that is because their nation's main league is considered being ranked around that round.

Also to make it fair, the KHL-teams from different countries will play a playoff round against the winner from the main league, for example Donbass would've played against the winner from the Ukrainain league, Dinamo Minsk against Neman Grodno, and Dinamo Riga against Prizmo Riga.

I also counted Jokerit as a KHL-team

What do you guys think?

^I like it for the most part. The big thing I would add NHL though (although that would probably have to make it a summer league, or the NHL gets a bye to one of the late rounds that starts in summer)

How about no. Also, it's the European Champions Hockey League, not the World Champions Hockey League.

Something I would like though, is the Victoria Cup (something like the Club World Cup in football/soccer), where the Stanley Cup champion and the CHL-champions plays against eachother!

I think there already have been talks about a return of the Victoria Cup ?

I don't see much sense in Victoria Cup or equivalent, at the time. I mean, last time it appeared that the interest and motivation for this came pretty much exclusively from Europe. On the other hand, should the actual Stanley Cup winner be the participant from NHL, it could be a beginning of a great tradition.

Wasn't it even the NHL who wanted it back, or am I thinking the opposite (someone, confirm this)

Given the NHL's earlier lack of motivation to cooperate with other ice hockey leagues and governing bodies, that'd be a bit surprising. But imo bringing back the Victoria Cup would be pretty cool.

Why not have a world champions league?

Well, not all European club teams have endless resources and inter-continental flights can be pretty costly.
