A lot of players have gone up, down, and through the Marlies this year and in tonight's game it showed. They need to establish some set lines and let the artistry develop. The Marlies look a bit like they've been thrown in a blender - not a ton of chemistry tonight between players. Obviously it wasn't everyone's best night.

Carrick was a machine tonight though. Nylander showed his stuff - wow what a talent he is. McWilliam was a pleasant surprise - he played a hard-nosed very reliable game - not as slow as I thought either. Grannberg played well with Percy but got walked on that turnover in the neutral zone on the first goal. Loov, Mikkelsen, and Percy all had decent nights. Finn - I went into the game to be extremely objective and just watch him play like I hadn't ever seen him before. He just didn't seem to play a very confident game - he was kinda in survival mode at times trying to read the plays and keep up physically. He'll have better nights than tonight but it wasn't a top-notch outing for him.

Bibeau looks very good. Brown was solid and shoulda scored on the poster - had the goalie beat. Good to see Biggs on the PK - he threw a bunch of nice hits but not much beyond that in his limited time out there.

Fun time in the stands with the Hamilton fans on $3 beer night - laughed my arse off a buncha times.

The problem with the people that are throwing the jerseys on the ice is that they are representative of the entire fan base, whether we like it or not. And that's the worst part.

No fan should be throwing Leafs jerseys on the ice at a Marlies game. The Marlies are not responsible for the Parent team's woes. It is natural to be upset at the Leafs in light of how many times this team has let down its fans, and I for one think if you pay $150 for a seat and the team stinks, a fan can do what they want as long as it does not endanger anyone. But at a Marlies game with players that had nothing to do with the Leafs performance. Not a good move.

Gauthier has 11 games with at least a point in his last 12. 14 pts over that stretch.

Shooting more than his previous seasons as well.

To be expected. He is bigger and strong and creating more room for himself. His true test will be next year when he is with the Marlies.

What team does The Goat play on? Are they expected to make the playoffs?

edit: Once Gauthier makes it to the Leafs I will be getting a leaf jersey with The Goat on it. Just made up my mind, it will be my first official jersey.

As he should be, the guy is a 1st round pick and 19 years old, he turns 20 in April. If he wasn't a PPG player or at least near it, I'd be worried.

$3 beer on a Friday night in Hamilton...I can only imagine the post game shenanigans.

Rimouski, they are the top team in the Q and contender to play in the memorial cup.

Thoughts on Valiev's potential? He's having a good year for Kootenay, can't wait it see how he does with the Marlies soon.

He's 5th. on his team in PPG, at .095.

I was trying to think of a player Gauthier would be a comparable to that played for the Leafs, and I thought of Nik Antropov. Who was a very underrated Center for us. He came into the league as a solid Defensive Center with size, and with some scoring touch. Gauthier needs to improve his offence vastly to get to Antropov's level though. Otherwise it is a decent comparison.

Antropov got better with age, and was actually really good with the Rangers after going over. If Gauthier can become Antropov we should be very happy. Kind of miss Antropov to be honest.

Agreed, if the Leafs drafted a Nik Antropov today, not at 5-10 where we are picking this year. But say at #21, We would be very happy. A big 6'6 240 lbs 2 way Center with an edge. He looked like he was going to be something special as a rookie, unfortunately knee injuries hurt him. If Gauthier could be as good as him, Leafs would have done very well. Just needs to pick up the offence.

Honestly not worried about Gauthier being PPG. Not at all.

There is only so much time on ice per game. I would rather he make the defensively responsible play than flex his 'i'm bigger than you little 'uns' package to score flashy points that will never fly at the NHL level and fail half the time while getting his team scored on. I'm not a big fan of score inflators. I want complete players. If Gauthier goes in and scores 2 points in his first 40 AHL games, then there is reason for concern, but there are 100 point players in the CHL this year who won't even play an AHL game, or won't tally up more than a few points. Brad Ross any one? The drop off is not equal for all players for many reasons. And if he busts, i'd still take him every time. If a player like him ever pans out offensively you have one of the top 10 most valuable players in the league.

I'm excited to see how his rookie season goes with the Marlies next year.

Good.

Anyways I totally forgot Nylander played last night.

Marlies get shutout. Fan throws a jersey on the ice. At least Nylander is getting a good idea of what it is like to be a Leaf.

Hamilton fan I bet - they were riding Nylander all game. Someone Hammerhead took their younger brother's Leaf jersey and threw it after 10 beers - that kinda night.
