Speculation: 2013 Rookie Tournament Lines

I was there. We were the better team for 2/3 of the game, then we stunk the joint out in the 3rd. We had a lot of shots and scoring chances, but didn't capitalize on most of them. Also, we kind of layed back after scoring instead of putting more pressure on them or matching their pressure. I saw quite a few dangles from a couple of guys from our team. Not sure who they were.

Bjugstad looked pretty strong in the 1st half of the game, then seemed like he lost confidence. The rumors about his physical game are true. He probably needs some time to develop in SA. Imo, it's the best option for his game / confidence.

Howden was fast as usual, but not clutch. He had a load of chances and couldn't bury it or shot it high and wide. He looked confident in his abilities.

Shaw was really good in the corners and looked pretty confident as well. He had good instincts and was tough. Stood toe to toe with anyone. He showed me a lot.

Clapperton impressed me as well. Had some nice dangles. He's small, but stays low all the time. He was in the right place at the right time for his tap in goal. Had a nice look to his overall game out there if that makes any sense.

Petrovic looked great. He looked better than Jones out there. I guess he won me over because of his overall game. He has all the tools. He pasted a lot of bodies out there and saved the play a bunch of times. Dude was all over the ice. He rushed it occasionally, but got always got back. Love the snarl in his game.

Player of the game for the Panthers, imo, was McFadden. This guy surprised the crap out me. I saw a lot of Petrovic in him, so a lot of what I wrote about Petro can be said about McFadden.

The knee on knee on Jones was that Heelis guy. Just some guy trying to make a name for himself the wrong way.

Racine is another guy who I loved out there. Nasty as anything. Tough as nails. Sound defensively. Stood up for teammates. I think Delnov or someone was getting shoved around and Racine came over and grabbed the Pred by his jersey and put his face right in the guy's grill. Love this dude.

Delnov scored pretty easily in the shootout. Waited, waited, boom, 5-hole. Trocheck was trying to deke backhand forehand, but didn't need to since the goalie had a gaping 5-hole. He pulled the deke off, but it wasn't necessary. Bjugstad tried a backhand deke in the shootout and was stopped easily. It was impossible to keep track of everyone. Sorry if I missed anyone. Like I said, McFadden was very surprising. Bjugstad needs to show more, he was kind of disappointing. Howden looked pretty good. Petrovic was absolutely great. Racine was solid as heck. Trocheck looked really determined and polished. Delnov was crafty, kind of like Dadonov, but stronger, quicker and faster. Clapperton, Shaw and Beauiliver could surprise a lot of people in the future. Shields was an epic disaster, but to his credit, we coughed it up a few times. The Preds smelled blood and capitalized. The tender who played for us in the first was the best, imo. And McFarland. He looked pretty good. He looked like the most confident guy out there at times. I think he was one of the guys dangling quite a few times. He even split the d once, went in on the goalie, but passed it off to a guy who he thought was there but wasn't. Funny, he tipped in a shot from the point right after and redeemed himself quickly.

Our guys played very physical as well. They lined up Preds who were trying to dangle, but that all went to heck in the third. Preds were doing whatever they wanted to in our zone and Shields couldn't make one save.

Agreed. What a huge step forward from July. Attitude - great. Work ethic - outstanding.

He flew into the zone in the first, dangled/powered around 2 or 3 guys and placed a nice pass that the other Cat didn't take adavantage of. Then he fought his way in front to get the deflection off the Racine shot.

As for the chump goalie in the 3rd - GR wrote that he is on loan from the Hitmen.

Clapperton is a guy that interests me since seeing him in the development camp. Probably tops out as a 3rd liner, but I could see him serving a role on the team down the line.

That play was amazing, never thought he was capable of pulling that off. Him and Petrovic were looking great. I definitely do not mind passing on Jones. He looked great too. The rumors are all true. He's smart, got a cannon. He's gonna be great. But, Barkov filled a massive hole in our lineup. Hopefully, he can hit the ground running. Bjugstad needs some time to develop. He's not gonna make the team after playing like that against organizational prospects.

I'd think for his size to make it to NHL he needs to move to wing

Thanks dude!~ I am most pleased to see what you wrote about Petro, as I was highly expecting.
Racine too, I'd rather Petro and Racine than Mottau and Jovo immediately, then McFadden fighting for the spot.
Still truly hate the idea of Gilroy touching our Panthers line-up too.

Little more on Vinny?

Highlights of the game are up on the official Panthers site. McFarland made a nice move to get around a defenseman then tried to center a pass to Bjugstad. He didn't score but he did set up a goal seconds later by protecting the puck along the boards, then skated to the middle and passed to Racine up high. Racine's shot goes in after hitting McFarland.

I wasn't entirely focused on Vinny, but when he was making himself noticable you saw a lot of good things. He won draws. He dangled Preds d-men a couple times; I'm talking about the dangles from the WJC. I saw him take a lot of punishment. He was constantly getting crosh-checked from behind, bodied all over, but his quickness saved him along with his toughness. He bounced right back with the mentality like "Is that all you got?". He looked determined. I wouldn't take these games too seriously however. I mean, these guys are all on different levels. Some guys need some AHL development. Some guys are fighting hard to prove to management, they can make a different, guys like Vinny, McFarland, Beauiliver, Shaw, McFadden. Some guy were just thrown in there to have on their resume, guys like Heelis, Shields.

I'd definitely disagree about McFadden. I don't thnk he's a player. He scored a goal, but that's it. Couldn't gt the puck out of the zone, it's just my opinion, but I'm not a fan.

Petro was awesome. But to say he was better than jones....? No. Jones got the puck out of the zone every time he had it in his zone, you cannot take the puck from him. He showed poise and let a few accurate shots go. Jones is on another level. That's not discounting petro because I thought he had a really strong night.

I really wanted us to draft this kid I hope Barkov comes as advertised

Yep, it was a really nice move. He probably should have shot it, but it ended up being a goal.

Saturday, Sept. 7 – Nashville vs. Tampa Bay at 12 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 7 – Boston vs. Florida at 4 p.m.

Nice! Thanks, I'm gonna head over for the 4 o'clocker, after the Canes game. Anyone wants to say hi, pm me and I'll shoot you my number. Most people have it anyway.

I was judging our players from what I saw last night. I wouldn't advise anyone to take it as an end all be all statement. Jones looked good no doubt, but to say he was on another level isn't right. Craig Smith was on another level in 2011.

For those who attended yesterday's game, can you share your impressions of Seth Jones and Filip Forsberg? Thanks!

Both had really solid games. If you read this thread, you'll get my impressions of Jones. Makes me sick to watch him play. :(

Going to head over there now since I live close to the beach.

If you see a guy with a Marlins cap and red Gudbranson Panthers shirt, say hi.
