2013 Prospect Camp

Great post ... saying there is no benefit is short-term thinking ... building the Brand while creating long-term loyalties amongst a fan base only makes sense and shows you are never just sitting on your laurels ... doing anything towards cultivating future "die-hards" only makes good business sense.

Solid post.

Penny pinching and soley focusing on hard dollar returns is foolish when trying to grow a fanbase that has 3 other franchises all in short drivable distance.

Seriously then, write a letter or something to the Devils to open a practice. If they get more then 3 people on HF asking for it, they might actually consider it.

The problem is Lou's perspective. He's been under the school of thought that the success will be the driving force in bringing fans. Sucking up to a fanbase to make up for losing star players and 2 out of three years not making the playoffs is not something he's used to.

Daily practices don't need to be open... but for christs sake... have a scrimmage on Saturday open to the public.

Incorrect. He's definitely not 'helping' but that isn't the problem. The problem lies in having an event without tickets.

I'm not trying to say that my points about tangible returns are the end-all be-all of the why of this situation, and you are 100% right about the intangible returns, but you aren't realizing HOW MUCH it costs the team. It's not just a couple security guards. It's contractual and legal obligations of holding an event.

The reason most teams open things is because they either don't own the arena or have deals that haven't been litigated repeatedly with City/State governments.

Goes to show how much has changed since 2009 I guess in terms of social media

Imagine how many more people would have showed up to that opened camp had it been advertised elsewhere aside from nj.com and TG's blog?

Today they would absolutely need tickets because it would spread quicker and to bigger audiences due to social media, but as I mentioned earlier, just for a day it wouldn't be as big of an issue - they did it rather simple in 2009 and wouldn't have to change too much this time around

Alex Urbom is not attending camp, GM Lou Lamoriello said, because the Devils did not ask several European players to attend.

Handling the pressure of following in his father's footsteps pretty well:

Anthony Brodeur on whether he gets tired of being compared to his father: "How can you get tired of it? He's the best goalie in the world."

Good news, though, the departure of Kovalchuk will not put an end to the LW/RW debates

Something to keep in mind as a Devils fan. Reid Boucher is listed as a LW; but the kid can play RW just as well. He's equally confident.

Devils prospects will scrimmage tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

I didn't realize Oleg Yevenko was so damn small. How does he ever win any board battles?

He grabs the puck and is gone before you can engage him. I have no idea, but in general you can be tiny and win board battles by being quick and smart. Of course, a smart and quick big guy is still probably going to beat you.

how did we come by Yevenko? i feel like I missed something. he looks immense

This guy looks about as big as Chara....

FIXED.

Great interviews. I will be rooting hard for Tony to work his way up and PERHAPS one day making it into the NHL.

BTW, it's uncanny how similar he looks to his old man. The way he talks, his facial expressions, attitude, everything..... If he can be even 25% of what his father was, he'd be one heck of a goaltender down the road....

TG has Merrill at 6'4 205. Didn't realize he was Gelinas height. And also 8 points in 12 games in the A is not to shabby for someone straight out of college. He is a prospect I know the least about. Realistically do you guys see him making the team in the fall?

Unless he has a MONSTER camp, it's doubtful. He has the most pure talent, but he's still a little raw and hasn't played much hockey the past two years.

Thats what I figured. Also whats the deal with Gelinas? I know he had that game last year against the Pens, but I missed it. I guess it really does all depend on each of their camps, and if its better to have them in the A for a full year (2nd full year for Gelinas) then be a number 7 on a defense with alot of vets.

But now that I say that, there could be injuries. either way, i know we've talked about how empty the cupboard is and how we are going to be horrible offensively, but I see us being extremely solid defensively, and this is just making it more exciting that we can look forward to young guys who are serious 2 way threats coming in and making an impact.

holy run on sentence.
