I'm fine with not calling penalties in OT or letting things go at any time really. Just be consistent. Don't call a high stick on one team, and let the other get away with it. Either call both, or don't call either.

I said this a lot during the playoffs last year with us. If I noticed a missed call against the other team I would let it go until they didn't let the Devils get away with the same thing.

It's always a penalty, except when it isnt.

I'm sick of the NHL being like this. Either call penalties from preaseason game 1 to SCF Game 7 OT or change the rule book.

You never know what's is or isnt a hooking or interference penalty game-to-game, or sometimes period-to-period.

exactly

But that was so blatant and right in front of the refs eyes,

Putting the whistles away just because it's overtime is a bad idea imo. Not calling a penalty can affect the game just as much as calling the penalty.

So was the blatant trip on Chara in the crease by Kunitz while the pens had a PP but it wasn't called and easily could have been the game winner. A no call during a pp in the crease with a shot coming vs a hook in the neutral zone even strength... I know which I'd be more upset about aside from the outcome.

As I noted earlier, that's only a penalty in the regular season, and it's doubly not a penalty in a second overtime period. Whether that's fair or not is another issue entirely.

Dynamic standards nd diving are why this sport struggles to garner new fans or fringe fans just like why I can't watch soccer. It really needs to be addressed.

I really feel for Vokoun. I said he probably wouldn't have taken the Caps as far in the playoffs last year as Holtby did. Maybe he wouldn't have, but he wasn't healthy a lot of last season. There were times he looked bad for the Caps last year, but he probably wasn't healthy.

He's been pretty good for the Pens this playoffs, and the Isles might take them out if he don't rescue them.

Always liked Vokoun because he's one of the goalies I love. Real athletic and fun to watch, and doesn't wear a ****ton of equipment. Love guys like him, Niemi, Howard, Pavelec, Bryzgalov, and Lehtonen. Can't stand the leaning tower of padsa James Reimer's of the league.

To phrase it another way:

I'm sick of watching a sport I've followed since before I had all my adult teeth, and not even knowing what IS or ISNT a penalty half the time like I'm a newcomer to the sport of ice hockey.

If I wanted to watch something and have no friggin' idea what the rules are, I'd pay for SkySports and tune into Cricket.

what, like Gio getting reefed into the boards with no call and then Bernier doing the same thing at the end boards and getting a 5minute major?

Consistent they are not.

I really like Rask too. I think he's really proving the doubters wrong, and making good on that failed 2010 run that he got most of the blame for, which isn't right anyway.

He's gotta work on controlling those rebounds, but he's replaced Tim Thomas quite easily. He's gonna get a good contract coming up here.

Yea, same. He played his heart out tonight. This might be one of his last chances to get a cup.

Like that. Or Watson and Joanette last year in game 3 vs the Flyers. Doc brought that game up tonight, but I'm not sure why. Must have been cause that's the most penalties they've called in an OT playoff game since that one. I was zoning out a little when Doc was talking about them.

Kovy got called for a delay of game that deflected off of a Flyer, and then flipped out in the penalty box after seeing the replay. Henrique got called for a BS penalty early in the game, Zubrus got called for a boarding in OT that wasn't really a board. Salvador got a DOG penalty in OT, but that one was legit. It seemed like a real screwjob in that game.

I didn't think any of the goals were his fault the first two games either. Even if they were he got one goal of support in 2 games. He's gotten 2 goals of support now in over 3.5 games now (Well he didn't play much in game 2) from the best damn offensive team in the league!

Always played for meh teams. A very BAD Florida Panthers team for years, a so so Nashville team, and a Caps team where he had a lot of injuries.

I actually said NO WAY to the topic of Vokoun possibly coming to us this year when we were talking about it in 11-12. Then his rights were traded to Pittsburgh, and he signed there. He's also signed through next year. Wouldn't want him as a starter in 14-15, but would be a good backup.

Dreger just tweeted that Malkin could be on the trade block assuming the Pens get bounced Friday. Damn talk about rubbing salt in the wound lol.

I don't think they'll move Malkin, but I do think they'll weed out some of the turds. I doubt Dupuis comes back, and Iginla neither. Maybe Iginla will re sign with Calgary, and then Feaster can try and get back a better package for him next year!

Whoever it was saying they could see Pittsburgh going after Lundqivst, I could see it myself. Vokoun is like almost 37, and MAF is MAF. I really thought Paul Martin was gonna be their buyout before the season started, but I'm starting to think MAF will be unless they can get the Islanders or some team to take him on. Only has a year left.

The inconsistency in penalty calling from period to period in this game was quite annoying to say the least, but I though overall it was the same for both teams. That is to say whether they let them play or called it tight, at least they did that for both teams at the same time.

What kills me is when they call it super tight for one team and are super lenient with the other, then switch it up a period later to even things out. Or when they just completely hose one team, though that happens a lot less often then people think.

If Jagr gets called for a hook and Pittsburgh scores on the PP to win, this board would complain that the refs decided the game. That was barely a hook, Malkin didn't even object. The refs aren't going to call that. To say you don't know the rules is a little ridiculous. If you've watched hockey as long as you say you have, you would know the refs aren't going to call that weak crap.

My OT goal reactions are way different than last year.

Last night I was all like "Ohhhhh Bergeron!". Last year I was "YEAHHHH!!! HENRIQUE **** YEAH!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!"

I miss playoff hockey :(

Campbell broken bone on this shot and he still skated around to finish the shift. Wow.

Efforts like that are just unreal and they're why NHL playoffs are the best. Getting hurt like that and still managing to get up and stay in the play, and to have an example in both conference finals series now.

Except when they do call it.

If you've watched hockey at all, you would know the refs in this league are completely ambiguous as to what is or isnt a hooking or interference penalty.

And if you've paid attention to playoff hockey the last 2 or 3 years, you cant even use the "they dont call that in the playoffs" excuse, because they DO call that in the playoffs now - except when they dont call it.

Hey, it could be worse I guess. They could use the seemingly completely arbitrary Spinning Wheel of Hockey Suspensions at the league office to call penalties.

Many of them were very difficult too. Much more difficult than what Quick sees on an average night. Vokoun was very good too. Just some crap that went off Letang's skate, and that great chance in OT that he had no chance on.
