Speculation: 2013 Offseason Thread Part IV: Streit's rights to PHI for 2014 4th Rounder

Lucic's growth curve was unique. He was a late 2nd rounder because he scored only 9 goals in the WHL. A curiosity because of his size. Then next season- bang. 30 goals, 68 points.

If a guy like Lucic went into his draft year scoring big in the juniors, he'd be a top five pick. NHL scouts still crave size and strength. Run through any team and if there's a forward who is 6'2". he can have half the skill of a 5'9" player and get drafted higher.

To be honest, no organization does. He is one of the most unique players in the league.

Blues have David Backes.. he is another close to the same type of player.. id love David Backes on Rangers... Flyers have Hartnell..

NYR doesnt even have a player like that in their whole organization, even in their prospect pool..

Lucic is an excellent forward and all, but I'd prefer if the Rangers emulate the Bruins stress on organizational center depth rather than spending a large portion of their cap on wingers.

True.

Just from a size and toughness standpoint, I'm hoping McIlrath can bring some of what Lucic brings to Boston to our own back end down the line. We've definitely lost a good chunk of meanness and physicality with the injuries to Sauer and Staal. We need to be tougher to play against.

id gladly do that deal but i bet it would take a lot more than Del Zotto.. what if they wanted Girardi would you do that deal??

Yes. If Staal's eye is healthy and he can switch to the right side.

I think Del Zotto has more value than Girardi anyway. But I think they're both pretty overrated. Hopefully in the eyes of some GM's as well.

Tell me with a straight face if you think Del Zotto is that player.

:)

That's a fair point.

However, they may be willing to gamble that DZ can grow into that player, and buy the skill set they see and project, and hope the minutes for production work out, or, recognize competition to get those minutes is such that MDZ gets 'em either way.

The irony is that if we drafted a kid who had 9 goals and 149 PIM in the second round, the majority of this board would lose their minds because we wasted the pick.

Brassard won't be a ppg player
He doesn't have to be, he needs to be better than Richards was this season, that's shouldn't be too difficult.
Stepan may regress (not saying he will but he might)
He might or he might not. Assume he has the same production as this season.
Kreider may not be groomed enough
I didn't have Kreider in my list. Anything he provides is gravy.
Lindbergh may not transition well
That's a risk sure, but we had Boyle as 3C this season. i think it's safe to say Lindberg will outproduce Boyle's 5 points (10 point over 82 games)
Staal may not recover completely ( or at all)
Team played without him for the majority of the season. Again, anything he provides is gravy.
Even if that team is as projected, with nothing going wrong, they aren't a contender.
My point is the team on paper is better than this season's team.
Being a contender or not will depend on many things. The coach, the system, how the lines gel, injuries, luck ...
Islanders, Montreal and Toronto were not even playoffs teams before the season. Ottawa was an afterthought after all the injuries. The Devils were world beaters in the beginning of the season.
Boston struggled to close out the season, they finished behind Montreal in the standings and if they don't make a miraculous comeback against the Leafs, they are not where they are now.
Chicago were world beaters the whole season, they needed a come back from 1-3 deficit and game 7 overtime to beat Detroit.

The irony is that if we drafted a kid who had 9 goals and 149 PIM in the second round, the majority of this board would lose their minds because we wasted the pick.

not if he can turn into our version of Kyle Clifford.. he was also a 2ed round pick.. id rather take a chance with a guy like that, over a player from europe that isnt sure about coming to North America.. cant these teams find out if they will come to North America or not before drafting a player from europe so they know they wont stay like Ronnie Sundin or Mikael Pashin has...

If Sather can do that, then I will be building his shrine outside of MSG.

Don't know if this was mentioned already, but according to Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet radio, it looks like PK Subban will be named the Norris Trophy winner.
I only wish we had a Dman with a laser from the point on the PP. I personally would have gone with Suter, but PK is a solid choice as well.

You could make a case for Tom Wilson. Washington gambled hard on him keeping up his pace after his nice playoffs and it paid off for them so far. Having Trocheck probably didn't hurt, though.

Well his brother is an option in round 3 if he's still there with the 7646 third rounders the Rangers have. He's climbing in the last power rankings and you know some team will use the legacy theory.

Babchuk might be an option.

The only DMan with a shot in the Rangers system is Calle Anderson and the earliest we see him in NA is probably 2015-16 if he's awarded a contract so that should be something the brass address with the third rounders.

Calle was projected to be in NA next season. Now he is projected in 2 years (According to Leslie). Can somebody who watches him in Sweden fill us in on what happened to him?

Me thinks the Brooks article about Clowe's 3 concussions was a leak from the Rangers. They may have started the negotiations and the Rangers are driving a hard bargain.
Sharks fans state that he didn't have a concussion before the trade.
Who to believe?

He may have not had a concussion but he had a lower body injury/left leg that he played through and was evident when I saw him play St. Louis on March 9.
he has definently lost a step and would walk away if I were NYR.

might be alone here but I hope Brandon Mashinter really impresses at camp! He's kinda slow but he forechecks well, kills penalties, has a big body, fights really well, hits a lot, and even discovered some scoring touch with the Whale. He'd fit right in with Boyle and Dorsett

Eberle/ Yak is no shrimp..... And MDZ doesn't have any grit or toughness. And from what I've heard, Yak/Eberle is pretty fast too.

Not sure what you're trying to say.... We wouldn't be giving up any grit in the back end, and we improve in size and speed.
I'm quite sure that MDZ won't be the center piece in a trade for any of those players.
