I see 5 fourth liners in that roster, for one.

Also, we become way too top heavy and you also can't trade cash.

Thats what I am thinking as well and they could probably get 3 players in return from Rangers that cost the same as his 5.2M Cap Hit.

I cannot express how unbelievable I think it is that Pittsburgh trades both Malkin and Letang, not to mention that they'd do it for what you're offering. First off, Pittsburgh isn't looking to dismantle their team or cut salary. The only way they trade Malkin is if they think he'll walk after next season. Malkin may very well not mind playing second fiddle to Crosby as long as he gets paid.

And while we're at it. Don't expect Lundqvist to accept anything other than the most he can get. An organization should pay it's best players. Lundqvist isn't going to take less on the promise that Sather will use the savings wisely, elsewhere.

I think thats a pretty bad team.
 
A bit OT, but I'm trying to get an idea of who the best defensive forward role players are on each team. I tried to set up some criteria to eliminate the more offensive two way guys in the league, and the young up and coming offensive guys.

Basically hoping to get mostly bottom six guys who's main role is strong defensive play, though it's ok if someone is a bit of a tweener on a 2nd line or something. Even if you don't think your team has any strong defensive forwards on the bottom lines, please mention who you think are the best of the group.

  • Player can be a pending UFA - As long as they are currently with your team
  • Player must be 23 years old (as of now) or older - To eliminate young offensive two way players like O'Reilly or Landeskog
  • Player can not have more than two 40 point seasons in the last 7 NHL seasons - To eliminate the Bergeron's and Staal's

If a few of you have time to stop by this thread and add a couple names, that'd be awesome. Try to limit it to the two best guys, but if you feel the need to add more that's fine. Thanks for any info you feel like sharing.

Iginla is not a first line player at this stage of his career. He is a 2nd/3rd line PP specialist.

I actually wouldn't mind signing him depending on the price. That's always the caveat, though. Gives us a true, right handed shooter on our PP, and he's an upgrade on Ryder, who has been suggested.
 
Iginla? Eww. 2nd/3rd liner that will get paid like a 1st liner. Prototypical Sather signing, so I'm a little afraid.
 
Stay far away from Iginla. His tank will be running on empty pretty soon. For a depth guy on a 1 year deal, perhaps...but 3 years. lol Have we learned nothing?

I would be okay with a 2 or 3 year deal around 4 million per season. Although I see him getting a Doan like deal. 4 years ~5 million from someone.

I am hoping Sather stays away from Bickell. He is going to be the new Joel Ward. Overpaid 3rd liner. And Bickell doesn't PK.

Raymond, Clowe, Nystrom, Scuderi, Stalberg, Iginla. Those are the main guys I would look at.

Not a fan of Clarkson, Ryder, Bickell, Penner, Roy, Ribeiro, Hendricks, Hainsey.

Hoping someone like Lecavalier is bought out. Maybe David Jones is let go.

Looking around the league, would anyone take Liles or Komisarek on a 1 year deal on the cheap? I thought Komisarek looked better this year when he played. RD I believe.

He will be a 25-30 goal scorer for another 3 years. The guy is a specimen and with his shot and IQ, the goals will continue to come.

Shanahan could barely skate and did well until almost 40.
 
Bickell has a lot more potential than Joel Ward did when he was a UFA. Bickell is 6'5, can skate, and has a wicked wrist shot. Joel Ward has ALWAYS been a grinder.

The thing with Bickell is that, at times, he lacks motivation and doesn't move his feet, and therefore his size becomes useless. If Bickell were to start moving his feet more consistently, he could easily be a 25-30 goal scorer.

Not gonna happen. Ward is also extremely strong on his skates and an excellent defensive forward.

HUGE pass on Bickell. Let someone else overpay for him. He is playing with Hossa and Toews.

Glorified grinder who will be overpaid.

Just my opinion, I think you're overrating Iginla's shot a bit. It's accurate, yes, but he doesn't have anything close to the rocket Shanny had his last two years here. I'd offer him a one year deal on the cheap, but he won't take either. He'll be looking for term and money.

I don't want Bickell. But you're completely ignoring the fact that his physical tools are simply on another level compared to a player like Ward.

Not trying to compare his shot to Shanahan but more the fact that, if Shanny could do it his age, and Iginla is another power forward with a wicked shot who skates much better can be effective for a few more years.

I like how Bickell hits a ton. But his offense is not good.

The difference between Bickell and Ward is that Ward gives full effort all the time. Same cant be said for Bickell.

If he would sign for 2-2.5 I would say okay. He will get 3.5.

Ward is a good fourth line mucker who can play 3rd line. I want Pyatt gone ASAP don't let one week of good play foolmu he sucks. Say no to Jerome .. I want clarkson and his 25 goals 10 fights and leadership in the room.

Clarkson will get 4+ million for 5 years easily. Are you willing to pay that for yet another RWer?

Yep, not disagreeing, I just have an issue with what he'll get paid rather than the player himself. I'd take him one year at three million, but the two things going against him are that he's another RW that won't fit if Nash isn't moved to the left. Which, to be honest, I like Nash's game better on the right.

The other thing as I mentioned is what he'll cost. He'll be looking for 2-3 years at 4 to 5 million, at least. Besides, I think he takes a paycut to stay with Pittsburgh (barf). He has had unreal chemistry with Crosby since the 2010 Olympics, but Bylsma plays him with Malkin. Bylsma should get fired just for that. Like Torts, he's refusing to adjust.
