There is a thread about Kassian for DZ

Kassian for DZ heads up I'd do. Maybe Nucks adding a little.

Nucks better be adding something significant to get Del Zotto. Trading a top-4 defender for a unrealized box of potential is foolish. After Kassian's hot start, he had 5 points in his next 31 games.

henke having a cap hit of 8-9m with a 65-70m salary cap wudnt be all that different than him having a 6.875 cap hit when the salary cap was 57m and thats taking a low ball number for what the cap will probably look like for the duration of henkes next contract.

He's 31. He's going to decline eventually. It's not the same as paying him during his prime years. Guessing at what the cap is going to be is asking for trouble.

With Oilers rumored to trade their 7th overall pick...another NYR Oilers trade in the future??

would this work Del Zotto, Boyle and Thomas to Oilers for 7th, Sam Ganger, Peckham??? does this get it done...

Rangers get a physical dman in Peckham, a chance to draft their own top line forward and a 2ed 3rd line forward although another smallish center.

Detroit? Not a chance. They've got Howard locked up for years and have tons of players leaving in the next two years. Colarado has 11M in cap space next year and have impending RFA's and leaving UFA's. They've got a grand total of 7 players signed for 2014-15 with Duchene, Landeskog, AND Ryan O'Reilly needing to be signed. Toronto has a grand total of 10 skaters signed for next year with 19M in Cap space. They'll need to sign at least 8 players with that 19M. Lundqvist isn't fitting there either. In any event, a 10M hit will seriously impact the ability of just about any club to field the right roster.

Want to talk about perennial cap-floor teams like Nashville, CBJ's, NYI's, etc...? Fine. Do you think Lundqvist is going to go there?

There is a long list of players people were convinced wouldn't go anywhere else...and then they dis. If Lundqvist becomes a UFA, there will be suitors and there will undoubtedly be a team willing to spend too much.

I think Hank wants a Cup... badly. The question becomes where he thinks he'll get it? If he thinks he can win in NY (and we know he wants to in NY) then he should be willing to take a minimal raise & not cripple the team with an even more rid contract.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be worth it, but in order for the team to succeed he'll need to be reasonable.

As if my day wasn't bad enough.

It's such a double edged sword. You sign him for what he wants, but maybe that hampers your ability to build a competent team. You lose/trade him and you might as well blow it up because he is the team.

Edit: I don't rule out option 3 - the home town discount, but the Rangers better start showing him something to make him want to take it. As brooks says he enjoys a certain lifestyle and loves the team/city, but he is a guy who wants to win it all first and foremost.

That's the bottom line.

Torts' "stiffer" comment is interesting and worrisome at the same time. Combine that with Clowe's presser, and I also think Clowe comes back. I just hope it's not for many years. A healthy Clowe makes us a much deeper team.

Who else is out there? Would Raffi Torres come here for 1.5 million? Upgrade on Pyatt for the same cap hit.

Also think Miller gets another crack on the team. He fits the "stiff" description.

The reason I think Torts' comment is worrisome is that he is not addressing the need for a scorer. Clowe is nice, but he's had more assists than goals over the years. His production comes from winning board battles and opening up space for other players to shoot and score. The Rangers don't have a sniper like Marleau or Couture to put pucks in the net when provided that space Clowe creates.

Miller, Kreider and McIlrath from within.

Nystrom, Hendricks (ew), Torres, Clowe, Clarkson + anyone else who is bought out will be looked at I am sure.

There will be trades available as well. Moen from Montreal as the 4th line LWer? Will Gaustad be amnestied? etc.

So we are turning over the roster again? It worked so well this season.

What's the + in your opinion?

I'd only be interested in the 7th overall if Nichushkin was still on the board. Kid is going to be a hell of a player. Otherwise, we'd be really hard-pressed to find someone who is less than 3 years away from the NHL in that range. I'm assuming that if Nichushkin is there at 7, Lindholm and Barkov are off the board already.

Sure, we could trade back, but that's always a gamble. You have to hope that someone wants to trade up badly enough to give you value. In a deep draft like this, it's often difficult.

Hopefully there isn't too much turn over again. We started to recoup the depth lost in the Nash deal. The addition of Moore is going to be huge, IMO.

If we amnesty Richards (hopefully, because of CBA issues), we have to add a third center at-least on the level of Stepan and Brassard. If we can't have a true #1, then depth of 1B/2A types is OK as long as we play with a specific identity. Stephen Wiess?

Hopefully McIlrath can step in on the 3rd pair. If we can move Del Zotto for some legitimate talent up front, that could be a big help.

Clowe shouldn't be over paid by us. Someone may do it, hopefully it isn't us.

We have to focus on extending Henke, McDonagh, and Stepan.

Behind the bench, Sullivan needs to be relieved of his power play duties. The Rangers need a new (3rd) assistant coach to run the power play. Sullivan's job on the pk and defense is solid.

Would love to add a dynamic offensive defenseman, don't know how that can be done, though.

If Hank wanted anything over $8M, I'd seriously consider trading him. It puts too much strain on our cap commitment, and let's be honest, the team leans on him far too much to begin with. Part of me wonders if they'd put in some extra effort if they didn't have the best goalie in the world saving their bacon night after night.

Lol. Glad you aren't the GM sir. So he's too good now? Sounds like a great problem to have.

How do you feel about trading up from the third round —we have plenty of third round picks to move— to get a 2nd round pick and use it on Brett Pesce?

So we are turning over the roster again? It worked so well this season.

The team was on the upswing at the end of the 2012-13 season. I love Nash and all, but with that trade the roster took a side step. I wouldn't go as far to say derailed, but definitely side stepped.

The Gaborik trade was a big deal. The additions were sorely needed. And with that trade the team's make up and identity changed, again, for the second time in less then one season.

I don't personally feel the roster is worse, or better, really, then it was when we got to the Conference Final. But the identity changed. Tortorella's main issue is still trying to use this roster the way he did last year's. He has to adjust, and get the most out of what this roster is.

Of course, there will be some changes again before October. Hopefully not many. We need this team to start re-building it's identity, whatever that is going to be, over the summer, into camp, so it is prepared and ready for October.

Honestly, I just haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement. I like what I have seen in limited viewings. Has the tools and the will. Just need to see more of him offensively I think.

I do think the Rangers will move up into the 2nd if they can. Myles Bell should be there as well.

Do you think Bell's future is as a defenseman or forward?

I think people will work with him to transition back to a defender. His toolset is just so valuable at that position. Righty with a cannon of a shot, and the mobility to fire off one-timers at will. He also loves to hit, but was always taking himself out of coverage to crush someone.

Yes. He's too good. That's what I was getting at.
