I loathe the thought of andy greene on our PP.
I have similar feelings about Mark Fayne on the PP. Tallinder on the PP too. That annoyed me to no end.
I think he will too, but do you think if Marty isn't playing as good as Schneider they don't give it to Marty? I wonder if for his last outdoor game of his career against the Rangers none the less, if they will base it off emotion or logic.
I think Marty gets the outdoor game no matter what. I think they will split starts in the first two games which are back to backs. If Marty is REALLY good on opening night then maybe they throw him in again the next night at home. If he stinks then Pete's going with Schneider.... I hope.

I just hope he doesn't treat Schneider like the young defensemen, or like he did to Lokti when he scratched him for the One Trick Poni late in the season.

That article in the last thread about Brunner: Did that seriously say he wanted 5 mil. a year or did I not read that correctly? Holy ****, what a moron. Have fun back in the Alps buddy.

I hope Schneider starts the opener and Marty gets the home opener against the Isles. Marty will not start the majority of our home games if hes struggling at all. Were not a position to showcase him on a retirement tour for the fans at the Rock. Personally, I want it to be 60-40 in favor of Schneider because hes the better goaltender but I don't know if they do that.

Greene is just someone that exists on the PP. Won't hurt you, doesn't really help you either apart from his infrequent and unpredictable two-three week scoring binges. I'd just as soon let him play ES/PK minutes up the wazoo and have someone else do PP work since that's the weakest of his three areas anyway.

And I don't see Schnieder getting completely **** canned either, not after hearing Lou's quote describing him as a top five goalie in the league.

When was the last time the devils had this much roster turnover? I'm excited for this season. I think we will suprise a bunch of people. I think Lou does end up signing one more player. Is it October yet

It's comical how excited people are about the roster turnover now when everyone and their grandmother was citing advanced stats and shooting percentage saying the Devils were farcially unlucky last year and a good team. Funny because all the changes proves what some of us were saying all along, that they needed multiple reinforcements up front and to clean out one of the d-men, Lou even acknowledged after the Tallinder trade that having eight D wasn't ideal in hindsight.

Agreed. As much as it pains us all to hear/say it, The Schneider needs to be the 1a goalie in our tandem this year to give this team the best opportunity to be successful. Unless Marty outplays him, but I just don't see that happening.

 Well put. Greene should only be on the PP1 barring injuries or major ineffectiveness from the other main OD. Same with Fayne. Those guys should be the PK anchors.

But all this will probably wide open until the first game with an outside chance another vet D gets moved and possibly a young D making the team.

I'm worried about what Marty will look like if he doesn't play a lot. He always struggles when not getting a consistent load. He struggled a lot early in 11-12 after coming back from injury, and he wasn't playing much cause there were a lot of back to backs.

I still think Marty is really good when healthy. He had something like a 920 save percentage for close to 70 games prior to his most recent injury. It was even higher than that at even strength. That includes much of the 11-12 season, playoffs, and start to last season. He looked as good as he did 5 years ago to start the season last year, but he got injured and was kinda rusty when he returned.

The ILWT blog broke down that Marty wasn't as bad in March/April as he looked, but he had two games where he gave up a combined 9 goals on 40 shots. When you take away those two games he had a 912 save percentage which is about average. When you factor in the Boston and Rangers games it was like an 886.

Advanced stats are stupid. All I care about is players that can score. We weren't going to win many games with guys like Sullivan, poni, tedenby and matteu in the lineup

This summer was always going to be different than past ones because of the no 1st rounder next year and the trillion dollars in cap space they had so I'm not surprised they went bananas in reshaping things. After the way the ship sunk from Feb-April, there was no way Lou was sitting on his hands again. He new we needed tons of help and the same old bargain basement trash wasn't gonna work. Of course this was all exacerbated when 17 dipped out and went across the pond.

Can't wait for severson

I can't wait to have Larsson, Merrill, and Severson all up together. With the three of them making peanuts and Volchenkov and Zidlicky likely off the roster, I wonder of Lou will try to get a #1 D to lead the core of youngsters.

Well at least Greene can be passable as an offensive point in an emergency (Zidlicky or whoever else we have on the point getting hurt). The only time Fayne should EVER see the point on the PP is up a goal within the last five minutes if you're playing prevent offense. I don't even like that mentality with the PP but I understand many coaches including PDB will do that.

2007 when Sutter took over and Zubrus, Vishnevski, Rachunek (R.I.P), Asham, and Weekes were brought in and the Rock first opened. That team was a cluster**** for a while until Marty and Madden said **** it and put the team on there back in the second half. That was the worst Devils team to make the playoffs since I can remember. Anyone with half a brain could have predicted how that Rangers series would go after they decapitated us during the regular season.

I gave Lou Lamoriello a ton of flack over last year's failed season, but I have to give him credit for what he's done this offseason. He's in a very difficult situation (with the pick being forfeited next year), and it got even worse when Kovalchuk packed his bags and went home. For Lou to come back, after all that, put together a team that definitely has a chance to compete next season, that's remarkable to me.

The old man still has it

Marty is starting the season opener and the home opener, Cory will start the third game. Book it.

No way in HELL that early in the season Marty doesn't start what could be his last home opener. The rest of the back to backs will be split, but not that one.

All we know for sure is Schneider will indeed most likely get the start against the Canucks which is the 4th game of the year.

That year sucked. Why didn't Marty get the Hart Trophy that season? They gave it to Ovechkin instead, not that I had an issue with him winning out over Marty for it. I think Marty came in 5th in the Hart Trophy voting that year. We also got shutout 11 times or something that season.

I still wanna find the Bobby Holik quote from 08. They asked him who should win the Hart Trophy at the time, and he said Brodeur. He was on the Thrashers at the time and said that ''Ovechkin has to play the whole Southeast division. The worst teams in the league. He got 100 points playing against us, the Lightning, and Panthers who he had to play 30+ games against. How is scoring all those points against us an accomplishment? The Devils might have 10-15 less wins without Brodeur''.

Leaf fans on the mainboard think Clarkson will have more points then Jagr :laugh:

Is Jagr gonna be missing like more than half the season? Clarkson hasn't even hit 50 points in his career yet, and he's only had 46 because of a 30 goal season. The overrating of Clarkson now and this past free agency day is one of the strangest cases I've ever seen. I still can't believe he was ranked number 1 by TSN. WHY?!

He had 8 points the last 34 games of the season. Still don't get the overrating and fascination with him. How was he offered more money than Nathan Horton? A player who is a lot more proven than he is.

And theres the comment I was waiting for

Hes leaving the worst offensive team in the league to one of the best.

Sure, just like Gomez,Holik,Parise,Gionta,Martin
