He's already on the coaching staff. Not a Power Play specialist either. RT @NickBarlottaFN: @DevilsArmyBlog Scott Stevens

I'm trying to think of the last time Lou gave a coaching job in the NHL to a guy with no coaching experience at any level.

He did give Fetisov, Maclean, and Carpenter assistant jobs when they had no experience at any level of coaching. All of them were hired within a year of retiring from playing.

Johnny Mac in 02, but our PP finished dead last that year despite winning the cup. I'm hoping for Paul Maurice still, but I don't think we'll have him for long. He'd probably get a head coaching job again in the NHL after a year or two.

I want Boucher or Maurice to be honest . However, it may possibly put too much pressure on Deboer. If he starts doing bad, everyone will be calling for them to take over

Henrique's and Boucher's smiles could end wars.

Boucher isn't really NHL head coaching material IMO. I wouldn't want him head coaching, but assistant coaching would be fine. He's one of Jacques buddy's like Barr and Shaw.

I'd like Maurice cause he can bring an element that we lost with Oates and Robinson.

That's not a bad thing. Haven't a head coach quality guy as your assistant is a positive. You can't worry about long term stability of assistant coaches. If they do a good job, they're going to get poached no matter who they are.

We haven't had much stability with assistants (Or head coaches for that matter) anyway, so no big deal.

I'd like Maurice even if our PP still is bad.

Does anyone think the PP could get better with no Kovalchuk? Think we will use two defensemen at a time? Or move Elias or Zajac up to where Kovalchuk was?

It'll improve. Not because 17 is off of it completely. It'll improve because he's finally off the point.

I hope so. Do we use two defensemen? Or move Elias or Zajac up to where Kovalchuk was? Both have played up there before.

I'm hoping for two defensemen. I don't really want a forward on the point.

True but Larsson and Zid can be one pair on the point

Greene can be on the 2nd and who else ??? Gelinas if he is here ???

I wouldnt mind Zajac cause you know he will be responsible on D. I want him to take faceoffs, then move to the point

This team's offense is going to be such a thrown together mess for a good chunk of the season at the very least.

I'm pretty sure Ryder can play the point. If not, I don't see what's wrong with using Greene, Larsson, Zidlicky, and Fayne.

If you watch Ryder's highlights, most of his goals are deflections in the high slot on the PP.

Boucher and Maurice are the same type of retreads that DeBoer was when he got here, and outsiders at that. Granted, I'd take either for an assistant in a NY minute but I don't think it'd put any particular pressure on DeBoer that wouldn't already be there working for Lou. Hell even if we hired an assistant with no experience fans would be clamoring for Stevens, or the 943245th return of Lemaire if there was another slow start.

Particularly in Maurice's case I doubt there'd be any awkwardness, hard to see a friend stabbing another one in the back, unless it's Brian Billick with Jim Fassel.
