I think those lineups can make the playoffs. That's all dependent on: Clowe reverting to form, Ryder potting 30, Henrique and Zajac bouncing back, Loktionov/Josefson and Brunner improving, and Elias not declining. All of those things are very possible.

This team will not be "bad".

It will have it's issues though over a full season, but I think Deboer will have to really step up and let some of these guys loose in order for them to step up.

I prefer taking a wait and see approach. I just want competition and I just want us to contend for a playoff spot.

Schneider cant score goals

Your right. Marty must start games whenever we need extra goal scoring.

Personally if we DO (key word DO) get Grabo I think we'll be in pretty good shape. Like I said before... not sure if he would want a short term contract (two years or so) but a lineup of:

Elias-Zajac-Ryder
Clowe-Grabo-Brunner
Henrique-Loktionov-Zubrus
CBGB
(Extras: YaYo, Olesz)

I think is a playoff team.

He can prevent many of the goals Hedberg allowed though. He also has better rebound control/recovery time than Marty too.

Yup. Nucks fans were raving about his lateral movement and body control.

We will lose a bit in terms of Marty's puck handling and role there, but that's an adjustment that will just have to be addressed/made between the coaches and the defensemen. It's doable.

We often forget the pre-Kovy years and what it was like.

Where we'd finish top 10 in the league overall year after year, but often be in the bottom 10, sometimes bottom 5 in goals scored.

This was well after all of our HOFers left the blueline, as well.

We had coaches that squeezed the best of the players and stellar goaltending from Marty.

Now we have the best coach we've had in a long time and two reliable goalies.

look at the rosters of teams like Calgary, Florida, Colorado, Dallas, etc. and tell me how those teams are better than us.

they aren't.

Schneider cant score goals

Brunner projects to be a 50+ point player over a full season. Last year, in 44 games, he put up 26 points. He projects to be a 25 goal scorer.

That's in his first year in the NHL. As he adjusts to the speed of the game and grows further, I expect Brunner to be a Top 6 forward capable of scoring 30 goals and contributing 30 assists. He's almost there already.

Michael Ryder scored 10 goals and 11 assists in 27 games last year. He was on pace for 35+ goals and 30+ assists over a full season. Obviously he likely slows down to somewhere along the lines of 30/20 but that's incredible point production.

Ryane Clowe's career averages hover around 20/30. Another 50 point forward.

Those 3 would replace: Kovalchuk (35/40+ = ~80+ pts) and Clarkson (~25 generously/15 = ~40 points).

Raw numbers wise, if Brunner, Ryder, and Clowe play up to snuff - we lost nothing offensively and actually gained maybe 40 points. Gained some balance too. This team was too Kovy heavy.

the only thing that concerns me with Schneider is how many starts he is going to get.

I know the schedule has not been released but because of the Olympics i read some where that the Devils will have at least 22 back-to-backs this season.

Who knows if thats true or not but thats a solid amount of games there alone.

I sincerely believe Damien Brunner would be the steal of the off-season if he signed a 3-5 year deal at a reasonable hit <4.0 mil. He's incredibly underrated and I have no idea why teams don't see the potential.

He's 27 years old. Produced in the regular season and in the playoffs. And very clearly has all the offensive skills to be a high quality forward in this league.

Adding Grabo would be icing on the cake.

Brunner is young and he has 3 things that no matter what you say, you cant take away from him.

He has amazing speed, has a good shot and dirty hands. He will never lose that no matter who his linemates are

lol ok pal, im sure he would have pitched a shutout those 10 games we didnt have Kovy too right?

It's not like this year's team will be like we were without Kovy last year. We got Ryder, clowe, and probably brunner. It's not farfetched to suggest that we won't be awful.
