DEVILS ALL THE WAY*

There's not a single pending UFA that I'd be thrilled to sign this off-season.

I think Ryder can be a solid addition to our top #6... he's not as sexy as Perry but he's a player that can rack up goals whitout having a productive center to feed him 24/7. The risk of going the UFA route is that Lou will overpay and will also hand a long term deal with most probably a NTC.

I wouldn't be opposed one bit if we landed Ryder for "Clarkson type money", let Clarkson walk and replaced his grit and toughness with a Raffi Torres type of player.

Anyways, the scenarios are going to be endless and Lou will probably stay "status quo" when all is said and done. The only positive I get from keeping the 29th overall pick in last years draft... is that it'll sort of "force" Lou to ice a competitive team next year cause if we surender a top #10 pick cause of the "IK saga"... the media will have a field day in a half on the behalf of Lou and the New Jersey Devils.

Twice as much, if not more, as when we were dressing like 10 forwards cause of our cap situation a couple of years ago.

I wonder what the odds of Lou taking a team president role and letting Brian Burke run the day-to-day ops as GM??? At some point, Lou has to realize that this is far too much aggravation for him at this age. Burke has proven to build quality teams (see Vancouver & Anaheim) despite the drama that took place in Toronto.

I honestly would not be upset with this scenario. I've thought for a while now that Lou is probably getting too old for this. How many other gm's in the 4 major sports are his age? I can't think of any. I've always liked Burke's style of teams even though he seems like a total jackass of a person

my offseason:

let Clarkson walk
sign Nathan Horton
trade for another top 6 winger
amnesty or trade Volch somehow
buyout Hedberg (hopefully he retires), sign a capable backup goalie for a year
re-sign Zids ONLY if its cheap and ONLY if hes not going to play as much
re-sign Lokti, Henrique, Elias and Zubrus

If that happens then we are in serious trouble for the foreseeable future because I don't know how the hell this team is getting better other than UFA signing's and a trade or two. If I see another offseason of garbage reclamation project's and relying on Tedenby to emerge I will be EXTREMELY angry. I'm not accepting mediocrity and unfortunately were starting to head into that direction with most likely missing the playofffs 2 out of the last 3 years.

Horton and Weiss would be my ideal targets

I agree with Horton. At least try.

Yours and most of the rest of the league's... Mighty slim pickings this year. Only hope beyond those is the cap drop makes some guys available in a cap trade.

Agree. 100% Just add in. Draft a Forward with Top Line Potential (Shinkaruk/Monahan/etc)

I wonder what the chances of Boucher making the team next year and contributing are. He's already looking legit in Albany even though he hasn't been there long. Same with Gelinas. He seems ready to me. I'd much rather see them develop then some of the 3rd/4th line fodder we've been putting out there and the horrendous veteran d-men were icing

I hope we'll make the playoffs for one reason now We pass 2 rounds and Zajac's having a stellar 13 games postseason. Then I would trade him with something like Gelinas (sadly) and a 2nd for something like Tarasenko, Wheeler, Ladd or Eriksson.

It's the 2nd time in 3 frigging seasons we're barely able to score 2 goals per game. I'm sick, sick, sick of our lack of finish, lack of skills and top-end talent. It's time for the Devils 2-way hockey can go F itself for a while now. I want goals.

There's not a legitimate reason to believe Horton is going to sign here. I could see only Weiss because of Deboer but honestly, he seems to me like the perfect candidate for a "I've got a big payday now, F it".

Im guessing Horton is a possibility due to the Deboer factor . Also Zajac is not going to be traded

edit: How does Weiss get the Deboer factor, but Horton doesnt ???? Makes no sense

I generally like this plan, although god know what we have for trade bait. Bottom pairing D-men? Questionable prospects? And it's not like we have too many picks left to offer after this year's deals and kissing our #1 bye-bye next year.
