If we got Jagr he would play with Elias and not Kovy, I think. Though on the PP they would be nasty.

That's what I would presume as well...

Henrique-Lokti-Kovy
Elias-Zajac-Jagr
Poni-Zubrus-Clarkson
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

Not sure if I'd move Henrique to wing and Zubrus to center, or if I split Elias and Henrique. It's a good problem to have though.

I want someone with some offensive presence next to both our Russians and Henrique has a little of everything. He's smart with the puck and equaly as good whitout it... I think he'd be a perfect match for our top unit. I don't see Zubrus on that top line at all since his game all about grinding the opposition on the cycle. Maybe something like Elias-Zajac-Zubrus can work as well.

Zajac can't stay on our 3rd line forever and I wanted to reunite Poni-Zubrus-Bernier together but that left Clarkson out of top #9... with the "acquisition" of Jagr.

Oh well.

Yeah I remember Henrique - Zajac - Kovalchuk looked dangerous on the ice almost immediately. I'd love to see Henrique with Kovy and Sushi if Zubrus is comfortable with center when he comes back.

I think:

Zubrus-Loktionov-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-Jagr
Ponikarovski-Zajac-Clarkson

It fits everyone style, IMO. Kovalchuk and Loktionov need a player like Zubrus. Zubrus is better than Ponikarovski and he is a better skater and more creative offensively.

Elias-Henrique is solid together and Jagr compliments them well offensively. Zajac needs to be between north-south grinder players, and he gets that with Poni and Clarkson.

Brodeur's stiff back...

Hi, I come in peace!:)
Was wondering if your Hab-killer (Brodeur!) will be playing on Saturday against my Habs? Any improvement on back spasms or back pain for Brodeur? (I do sincerely wish him well...huge fan since I also have him in my hockey pool!)...I just hope he doesn't come back to shut-out my Habs!!

Thanks in advance for any info on Brodeur.
Cheers!

p.s.: sorry to Devils' moderators for starting this thread...I couldn't find any thread on Devils' injuries or any updates on Brodeur's current status.

TG did a really nice write up Jacques Caron and what he's done for our goalies:

“The reason you would take it out of context that it’s different is because it was over a span of so many years, but he was the same with every goaltender,†Lamoriello said. “He had that same interaction, that same relationship and it’s just that it would be magnified with Marty because of the time. But he spent just as much time with the other people. He still does. He still talks to the young kids on the phone and Terreri and all of them. That’s a gift and that’s why we’re fortunate with Chris Terreri, who came through that mold, and that’s why we’ve got a young (Dave) Caruso (as Albany’s goaltending coach), who came through that mold, that understands how important that is.â€

Jeff Frazee, who is with the team to back up Johan Hedberg while Brodeur is injured, said he talks to Caron on the phone at least once every two weeks. Caron does the same with Keith Kinkaid.

“He watches our games too and he’ll comment on those,†Frazee said. “He stays in touch pretty good with us.â€

Frazee said Caron’s positive approach is what makes him effective.

“He’s an amazing person,†Frazee said. “He’ll give me a call or I’ll give him a call. He might not be on the ice with us all the time, but he’s more of a mental coach. He understands the game mentally. It’s amazing what a little talk with him will do for you. You might be feeling like you haven’t played your best or something like that and he’ll spin it around positively and make you feel like you can do this.â€

Not trying to put the cart before the horse here, but I could really see Marty taking on future goalies with the same approach when he's finished up as a player.
No one has ever needed to be prompted to point out how calming and reassuring Marty's presence can be.

Also - just from poking around the Devils twitter account - it looks like tomorrow will be our Nordique Nation invasion:

At least we'll have them vehemently rooting for us against the Habs

I like that, and think that is what Pete would do most likely. Unless forced to by outside circumstances he does not want to play Henrique at wing. Pipe dream to expect him to play there with a full roster.

It's your lucky day! Marty will not be starting tomorrow. We don't know when he'll be starting again. He started skating a couple days ago, but that's it. Our organization is very secretive about injuries. Maybe other teams are too, and we just don't notice it. I think ours is particularly secretive though.

I remember last year it was revealed what was wrong with him a few days later, and he wound up missing 3 weeks. He's over 3 weeks now. I believe it's a pinched nerve, Chico Resch might have accidentally revealed that during a broadcast. He said ''There's rumors it's a pinched nerve, but we don't know they don't tell us stuff like that!"

He is day to day right now. Our coach said yesterday it is possible he could start tomorrow but unlikely, mostly because he did not travel with the team to Philly and hasn't practiced with the team yet since the injury.

He is skating and I think most expect maybe next week.

Hi, I come in peace!:)

Is everyone afraid of us or something?

He's just started skating. My guess is he won't be back for another 10 days at least, if at all this season. Lou and co. like to keep their mouths shut about everything.

Thanks to all of you for your quick/informative info;).
(so...it's still a waiting game...a stiff back cannot be rushed...if I'm Brodeur I'm thinking of another 3 seasons...maybe more depending on how much he loves the game and it seems like he loves it!! he just has to take his time
...'cause coming back fully rested/100% is the best option).

And am I afraid of you guys?!! (''I come in peace!!'').
Nah! but you never know...some of you might think I'm here to cause trouble or something!!

I've actually been a huuuuuge fan of Brodeur since day one...when your Devils had green on their jerseys!! even have his rookie card!! after Roy I wish it was Brodeur for our Habs, but...can't have it all!! He went to New Jersey and the rest is history (and present!)...he just won a few Cups here and there (dynasty) and also made some Cup Final appearance(s)!!;) One of the best goalies of all time history of NHL (maybe even the best ever), for sure one of the most entertaining/acrobatic goalies, that's for sure, and a definite Iron-Man/Mr.Longevity,etc, anyways...enough sucking up, but I am a sincerely a huge fan! hope he gets better). The best in last 20-25 years...Brodeur, Roy, Hasek, and I'm forgetting a few superstar/legendary goalies from last 20-25 years.

Cheers!!!

Also...there's 3-4 of you saying Brodeur is skating right now (thanks for info)...this is probably the first time he has skated in 2-3 weeks, no? (since I didn't hear anything about him skating for the last 2-3 weeks or more).

So...my bet from what I'm getting from you guys is he might be ready to go soon (maybe very soon!). I had a funny feeling he would start skating since the Habs are always marked on his calendar!! He always wants to shut-out his hometown Habs! Maybe he's pushing himself a bit to test his back for the possibility of playing VS the Habs.

Of course, I'm guess-timating!! we'll just have to do more waiting (but the fact that he's skating is a good sign).

Cheers!

Correct - he just started skating earlier this week since he pulled himself out of warmups a couple of weeks ago.

I'm sure he's upset that he's missing the chance to play you guys here in Jersey ;)
It's almost for certain that he won't play on Saturday, at best he might dress as a backup. Even that is doubtful.

There's still next season for him to shut you guys out at least one more time :D

Thing about part A is that Marty made it pretty clear last year he'd rather train for Lou's job than have Caron's job haha. But yeah I'm sure whatever Marty does after his career is over he'll at least be a goalie coach emeritus.

And I was surprised to hear the Nord fans would be back given how well tickets have been selling this year, particuarly for this game. I kinda hope they were able to get one section (most likely in the uppers this time though).

If you book far enough in advance, it's always possible to buy group tickets. I'm sure the Devils like accomodating their requests too because

1. It's 500 tickets guaranteed sold
2. Nords fans have consistently rooted for the Devils in the past when they have come, and added lots of energy, making for a great crowd experience.

Nordiques Nation likes coming to the Rock for several reasons as well

1. NJD and NYI have the least expensive tickets within driving distance of the Ville de Quebec.
2. Unlike NYI fans who have felt (perhaps rightly in the past given their ownership/arena woes) that Nordiques Nation was trying to poach the Islanders and were hostile towards them, NJD fans (with a much more geographically secure team) have been welcoming to our fellow small-market brothers.
3. Everyone knows the Mausoleum's a ****hole and the Rock is one of the best arenas in the league.

Ok, I'll stop hating on the Islanders now:sarcasm:

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice
No morning skate for Devils today. Probably won't have update on Loktionov until pre-game media availability around 4:45.

Anyone who doesn't think that update will be 'upper/lower body strain, day-to-day'? And he winds up missing a month :sarcasm:

They are loud, rowdy, and root for the Devils.

Who cares if they come or not?

They were pretty welcome the last time, though that was a nothing game. They picked a good one to come to this time considering we 'know' Quebec fans will be anti-Habs lol, a nice antidote to the usual Hab fan invasion on a weekend. This'll be a good test to see just how many sth's we really have since the building generally gets split Devil-Ranger style (circa anytime before last playoffs) for Hab weekend games.

Ugh, the habs fans are right up there with the rangers fans in terms of annoyance.
