I don't see any paralells between him and Elias. Grabner isn't the answer, I don't think. Plus I doubt the Isles trade him within the division.

I don't either, I just think he'd thrive under real veteran leadership. No offence to the Isles. I like Weight.

Rob Niedermayer wasn't bad either. I guess Pelley was better than Mair, PL3 and Leblond.

I hate Rob Niedermayer for two reasons:

1. His existence cost us Scott
2. Pandolfo was credited with his 100th career goal, but was changed to Rob Niedermayer because it grazed his skate blade but would have went in anyway. Pandolfo left the Devils with 99 career goals. Thankfully picked up #100 with the Isles or I prob would have killed Rob Niedermayer.

My point was that you don't need to be a 40 goal scorer/80 point player to be in the top 6, as evident by our current (although I believe improvable) top 6.

People want to stay put with our current lineup because guys like Iginla are a pipedream. I see it as we should make a move to bring in someone to boost the top 6, and it doesn't have to be a perennial all star.

Yes and no -

Your lineup points out that Lokti is in there, and it is pointless to bump him out of the top 6.

Also, Poni, who will be bumped for Zubrus - who I think rightfully needs to play on that 1st line to create space, but would in reality be a perfect 3rd liner.

I can see what you are saying about adding a 45-point guy though. I guess the thinking would be to find a Bernier+.

I actually think Ryan Clowe would be a good fit, if he had some more wheels - because that would add some grit to the top end come playoff time and obviate the need to ever have Barch on the ice.

Don't get me wrong man I was pissed when he came to the Devils. I was thinking ''Scott left us to go play with him, and now he's here? What the ****?!'' I was hoping Scott would come back, and Lou contacted him that Summer cause he was a UFA, but he said he had made a verbal agreement with the Ducks already. I think Lou tried to trade for him in 2010, but we got Kovy instead.

Haha Shouldn't you hate their mom. Wasn't she one of the driving forces in getting the brothers to play together on one team, or am I just remembering things all wrong? Either way she gave birth to Rob so she deserves some blame.

I think Patty is going to get a huge payday this summer. I've seen people throw around very low-end numbers.

I'd be fine with $6 million. As long as it isn't for too many years cause he's 37, and you don't know how much longer he can play. I'd prefer if we could keep him for cheaper, but I'd be willing to go more for him like I was Marty.

Lou/Hucksterbeek better not make a mess out of this like they did last year on July 1st. That whole thing was BS. Get him locked up before that cause I'm pretty sure he wants to stay.

I'd give him money but on one year deals realistically. You can't do that to Patrik Elias though.

By money, I mean an overpayment. I wouldn't go too crazy but I'd give him a $7-$7.5 million dollar cap hit on one year deals. Not enough though

Grabner would be great just because of his speed alone. A speedy winger would really compliment a center like Zajac.

Poni-Loktionov-Kovalchuk (cycler, 2 way C/playmaker, sniper/playmaker)
Elias-Henrique-Bernier (2 way LW/playmaker, 2 way C, cycler/grinder)
Zubrus-Zajac-Grabner (cycler, 2 way C, speed)
Carter-Gionta-Tommy K

2 years for $5-$6 would be ideal. I'm still sick that Marty went to UFA last year. Hucksterbeek locked up Zajac long term for 8 years before he could go to the market, so if he's gonna say he don't have the money to lock up Patty for a couple years than GTFO and sell this team to someone who has the measly $10-$12 million to sign Patty before UFA.

If Sal got three, Patty gets at least two. Numbers, I won't pretend to know but based on what guys like Pando and other good soldiers have gotten, I don't see Lou screwing with him, owner be damned.

Guy just had a 78pt season and now is having a PPG season. He doesn't have gas left in the tank, I'm convinced he's a hybrid.

How the guy can put the same numbers year after year, I'll never know. I think a lot of us take him for granted (I know I do sometimes) and only after he retires will we really see what a special player be was.

I was just running down his career stats. Geez he's had a hell of a run so far, and still going strong.

I'm not a fan of Grabner at all. He's got speed and that's it. Any scoring touch, we need top6, we need shooting skills and goals, badly.

I wouldn't mind Grabner in a regular full length season where he would have more time to learn to be a Devil. But this season they need a player who can come in and play well enough two-way hockey and bring speed/offense.

i'd gladly take grabner. even if his d wasnt great we could give him easy minutes in the bottom six. his speed is game changing. he can score and we need people who can score. i believe he's being underrated here.

Loki won't, and shouldn't be bumped. I think Elias, Kovy, Henrique, and Loki are locks for the top 6 right now. I also believe Zubrus is the best fit for the top line wing.

My ideal lineup has Clarkson going down to the 3rd line, which is where he scored 30 goals last year. That's where he belongs. He can hang on the 2nd line, but he excels on the 3rd.

My trade target is preferably someone who can play both wings. That way, we can try them with Zubrus at LW with Kovy and *trade* with Elias and Henrique. If it doesn't work, switch Zubrus and *trade.*

Jagr is the guy I really want. I'd take Morrow too.

There aren't easy minutes in the playoffs. His defense would get exposed in a 7 game series. He floats more than ATL Kovy did. It's really bad.

I bet Elias gets 3 years. I don't see how on earth he would get 7 or more than what he is getting now.

The reason the Getzlaf deal is so much is because there are no dead years. Elias isn't going to be getting a 8+ year deal anyway so it wouldn't make sense to have him peak on earnings at the twilight of his career.

I think Dev's get Elias on the cheap, but for more years.

At this stage I don't see a team swooping in and trying to steal him.

What I mean is compromise with his agent. I'll give you extra cash but at the security of years. But like I said, you can't do that with Elias even though I would rather do that then give him 3-4 years and risk regression. But I'm pretty sure +35 doesn't count against the cap anymore, does it?

was gonna respond and then i saw he was on IR too! holy **** this is getting ridiculous...everyone we talk about gets hurt. i bet kulemin will be out for the year soon

I could see Elias at about $5 mil a year. He'll be 37 by the end of this deal. I can see a 2 or 3 year deal for $10-$15 mil. Yes, he's getting old and should decline in production, but the simple fact of the matter is that 2010/11 not withstanding, he's been pretty close to the point a game mark for a good chunk of years, including this year (so far) and last. His production is high enough that there's no reason he should be making anything less than $5 mil. By the same token though, it wouldn't surprise me if he stays around the same $6 mil he's on the books for now.

I can if Lou and the Hucksterbeek let him get on the market like Marty did last year. If Hucksterbeek can't give Patty a good deal for a couple years then how the **** does he give Zajac almost $50 million? Pony the money up huckster. No more of this ''Wait to see if Clarkson re signs with us first'' BS either like Zach last year.

grabner would be just fine here. he has speed, a good shot, is pretty much a sniper and could prob improve his overall game here. oh no he sucks **** him let's get another barch.
