Our biggest weakness becomes even bigger now. Even if Butler hasn't been superb, he was still the best option we had from the minors. We have zero depth on the wing.

FINALLY someone notices that we had use for Butler...now he is gone and we got NOTHING for him good job Devils this actually made me mad

Use for Butler? Really? This kid wasn't doing anything here. That much has been obvious probably before the start of the season when he didn't make the cut for opening night. He just didn't fit here. If you're not going to contribute offensively, you better be chipping in somewhere else and that just wasn't happening.

Lou will put players on waivers if he feels they may get a chance to play elsewhere rather than hamstring them to the AHL if they are not a going concern for this team long term. He's done it before.

Classy thing to do imo.

I just wish they would find a way to use him he had good hands and talent just felt like they were wasting him when they could have used him

Worthless depth is no depth. And when the guy can`t crack the top6, he won`t be happy to stay in the minors if he feels he should be playing in the NHL. It`s really simple.

Of course, there can be a situation when your lineup is so depleted that you have to play the likes of Park as your 2nd center, but hopefully that won`t be the case.

I agree sadly because I did like him and thought he could work. That bottom 6 role is better served with Barch at the moment. Neither are going to add anything offensively, but at least Barch will hit someone.

This is the spot where Lou needs to make a move for. Imagine he is on it, he knows Barch isn't the solution.

I honestly didn't even expect him to get picked up with how useless he has looked.

I know Butts isn't an all start... but no one the Devils have is better than him. That's the problem. I really hope Lou has some sort of plan....

I figured he would get claimed, me and 13 others who voted.

Butler has good hands/shot and if Nashville uses him with the right linemates and on the PP, he has the ability to score some goals, for sure.

But, from what I saw of him, he is not a great skater, awful along the boards and he had a lot of trouble getting the puck out of the defensive zone.

I wish him well, he can easily be replaced here though.

And we got him for nothing as well.

It's the cirrrrrrrcle of liffffffffffe.

we signed him as a free agent its not like we claimed him off waivers from someone else I understand that he wasn't a top six forward but does everyone we have need to be? some players are complimentary and I felt he could have helped if we used him correctly (which we didn't)

Can we please see Tedenby at some point?????? I'd like to see some speed as opposed to the plodding we've been accustomed to. Maybe a player that can actually back up an opposing defenseman or create space in the process??

Do people not understand that Tedenby just had a major injury and got plastic surgery and hasn't skated or worked out since?

Problem is, Butler was struggling a bit himself. Can't have a replaceable guy struggling on a struggling team. Just poor timing, I think. At least he won't be tearing it up on an Eastern Conference team.

We haven't given many guys a shot, though. I don't think we will know if we have anyone better than him until we try them up in the NHL with this team.

He's probably going to be about for awhile to the depth of the cut, but he's been yo-yoed too much prior to the injury.

Yeah I know RG good point. Just wondering what this does for the current situation. I guess Yayo will be coming back soon. After that go back to swapping Barch and Matteau in and out.

Plus I need to know how to update the "OMG call up" meme lol.

If he comes back at full strength, I would like him to get the Matteau treatment... "Get on the top line and STAY THERE" and just see how he looks for a few games. DeBoer has a tendency to blow up the lines in the second/third period.

Bold = useless player. No ill will towards the kid but yeah, no big loss here at all.

I really didn't see him being too weak along the boards. He was good at pinning guys despite being 5'11" and he was surprisingly good on the forecheck. I'm surprised Pete wasn't able to find a way to use his strengths, but I don't think it's a big deal that he didn't.

He has a great shot and great hands so he is not useless yes he has things that he needed to improve but he did have use

What difference does a good shot or great hands make if you never ever get yourself in a position to actually utilize those supposed strengths? Butler was easily one of the most inept players I have seen play for this team recently. I'm not saying he's on Andrew Peters level, but I'm pretty surprised he got claimed tbh. Maybe he'll fit into some other team's system, but he wasn't going to work here. People seem to think he could have used better line mates. That's fine, but he got plenty of looks on the PP and still didn't produce anything. Barch will be more help to this team as it stands at this moment.

He forechecked pretty well for the first few games, at least from what I can remember, but that quickly disappeared. It's why I started getting annoyed with him lately. Not so much that he wasn't producing, I mean whatever, but at least contribute something. I never expected a lot out of him tbh, however, he was sticking out like a sore thumb on a struggling team. That's never a good thing.

Butler was in the same boat as Josefson IMO. Both played mostly with not great players on the 4th line but they did get opportunities with better players and still couldn't produce. Loktionov was able to step up when he was given a chance, Josefson and Butler did not.

Sucks that we lost some forward depth but I don't think Butler was ever going to be more than just forward depth.

Hilarious how if a player doesn't cut it's the coaching staff/GM's fault for "not using him correctly". Loktionov was "not used correctly" when he was called up and somehow got around to scoring and moving up to the 1st line.

Maybe he will do better with Nashville maybe he won't. Either way he sucked while he was here, and that's all that matters to NJD.
