Tallinder is like an upgraded Mike Mottau IMO. There are times he makes very good plays but then will turn around and throw a WTF?!? play in there.
Yeah he is obviously a slow adapter to system's, but when he is set he can be a very good Dman. His skating ability and shot can be very dangerous.
Tallinder's biggest issue is that he got hurt before the Devils turned the corner last season. Everyone only remembers those first two months when the whole team was struggling.
Remember the "Play Moose over Marty" threads?
That was awesome, and made me think screw it...full optimism train. There is still a ton of heart on this team, and guys hungry to either get their first taste or last. Seeing Marty celebrate like that...the old man HAS to get one more shot!!!
It is a short season...ANYTHING can happen. Put the pieces together Lou!!!!
Remember in 94 we got pretty far but ended bitterly and then in a work stoppage shortened season in 95 we took it all...
You can stay...Remember in 94 we got pretty far but ended bitterly and then in a work stoppage shortened season in 95 we took it all...
We should have lost to the Ranges then

The #NJDevils will use Zajac and Kovalchuk on the top line and have Henrique and Elias form 2/3 of line 2 as per @Real_ESPNLeBrun.
Also, say what you like about his luck for partners, but he is a pretty good mentor for young defencemen. He did well with Myers, he did well with Fayne, and he did well with Larsson in the short time they were paired together.
To be honest, I think it's the other way around. The young defensemen are pretty good mentors for Henrik Tallinder. Tyler Myers is a 6'7" physical freak that put up 48 points in the NHL as a 19 year old, and we all know how outstanding Fayne is.
The difference is that both of those defensemen have continued having success without Tallinder (Myers to a lesser degree, though he's had injury problems recently), while Tallinder hasn't had any success even when he was still paired with Fayne early in 2012.
The Devils viewed Tallinder as our best defensemen. He doesn't have potential to be great like Fayne or Larsson, but he is solid in all areas. People are way too hard on him.
Fayne and great ... Does not compute...
Dat face. The last time Kovy stepped onto the Rock's ice, he broke the Prince of Whales Trophy
Wasn't that obvious? I have posted before it won't be hard to replace those goals from Parise. A replacement player (Butler) plus Zajac healthy gets us all of Parise's goals.
You can't try to account for one player's goals with two players.
When Zajac was out, his ice time was filled by other players, who also scored goals. Those need to be factored into the discussion.
If anything, the way to view Butler is simply a replacement for Sykora.
You are correct. I posted this before, but I don't think it will be hard to get to last years offensive production.
We scored 149 5 v 5 Goals last year. That would equal 87 goals over a 48 game season.
Which I don't think will be hard to beat even losing all the forwards we did over the off-season.
Projected lines
Butler - Zajac - Kovy = (Butler 10 + Zajac 15 + Kovy 25) = 50 Goals
Elias - Henrique - Teddy = (Elias 15 + Henrique 15 + Teddy 10) = 40 Goals
Zubrus - Josefson - Clarkson = (Zubrus 10 + Josefson 5 + Clarkson 15) = 30 Goals
Carter - Gionta - Beriner = (Carter 5 + Gionta 5 + Bernier 5) = 15 Goals
Project Forward goals = 135 Goals over 82 games for 5v5
Our defense would need to get 14 goals to match last years projects which shouldn't be hard.
Fayne - Greene = (5)
Larsson - Tallinder = (5)
Zidlicky - Salvador - Volchenkov= (4)
