Hearing Canes could trade No. 5 pick and move down on draft day if their draft target is taken in top four picks. Unlikely Canes to move up.

Get it done Lou

Do we REALLY need a Goaltender with both Kinky and Wedge just about ready to go(Kinky more than Wedge)?

a. it's never a bad thing to have too much goaltending
b. there's no guarantee anybody we have now becomes even a decent starter in the nhl.

that said, i wouldn't take a goalie #9. maybe if he somehow fell all the way to us in the 2nd or if we traded for a 2nd first rounder a little later. but with the prospect pool in the state it is in, i don't see how you justify taking anything other than a forward.

Kinkaid seems like a short term bandaid when Brodeur retires. Wedgewood is the long term solution if he pans out.

FWIW darcy regier was interviewed today and said that the teams in front of the sabres (they are slated to pick @ #8) have specified to him that they are interested in selecting forwards, specifically centers.

I don't think either one is NHL ready. I think Kinkaid needs a year minimum, Wedgewood a lot longer.

I think we'll have another goalie as a stop gap if Marty retires after this year. No way they go straight to Kinkaid without even being a full time backup in the NHL yet.

Shouldn't be news really. We're going to end up walking away with Shinkaruk or Domi.

why did we have to win those games at the end of the season

why? beacuse the devils are not a puke franchise like the pens who hold no pride and are shameless when it comes to such things to make that team "better".

rather lose as a devils fan then support tripe like the penn state puss.

Sounds good.

We will have 2 -chuks on the team. Koval- and Klim- ;)

But the early '90s Sabres I think hold the -chuk record, with Hawerchuk, Andreychuk and Malarchuk (who's 30 for 30 was a tear jerker):D

Screw it, BPA, even if it is a Dman. Then trade a D for a FWD later on. Anyone they draft this year won't help immediately anyway. I'm not high on who will be left at #9 if seven or eight forwards get drafted before the pick.

They have one target? I guess it comes to whether or not Nashville takes their guy.

Exactly I've said this all along. BPA at #9, worry about need afterwards. Take the best possible player. I would rather a top pairing potential #1 Dman than an average 2nd line forward (and vice versa).

Makes sense. I've heard it rumored they want to draft a D. They probably asked COL about the #1 pick and were rebuffed since COL wants one of McKinnon/Drouin (who will be gone by #5), but with the announcement the Av's may not take Jones, they might as well wait and see just how far Jones falls. Once he's gone, they might as well trade back to where Nurse/Zadorov/Ristolainen are likely to be available and add another asset.

If I'm right, expect a lot of activity at the 'Canes table once Jones is picked, and just hope Lou's on the other end of the phone.

Would love to trade down if all the forwards are taken. Take Fucale and Mantha/Domi/Horvat/ hoping one of those are there

I think there is a slight drop in talent from Domi to Horvat and Mantha. I wouldn't want to trade down that far.

Not going to profess to be an expert on these players but based on everything I've heard, I'd be really happy to take Shinkaruk at #9.

With that said, what happens if a scenario like this plays out?

1) Colorado- Mackinnon
2) Florida- Jones
3) Tampa Bay- Drouin
4) Nashville- Barkov
5) Carolina- Nichushkin
6) Calgary- Monahan
7) Edmonton- Lindholm
8) Buffalo- Shinkaruk

I haven't seen this scenario posted much and it worries me it could happen. Nurse does not interest me at all as the Devils have plenty of top D prospects and we need a top flight offensive talent. I have this bad feeling Buffalo gets up at #8 and steals our thunder. Not particularly wanting Domi either....so in this scenario, then what?

Something like that is definitely possible. But you can bet there'll be some really jealous teams a few picks below us while Lou contemplates between Ristolainen and Domi. Maybe Nurse too, but lord I really don't want that dude. I may regret that statement in the future, but he just doesn't have a high enough ceiling right now and that's not what the Devils need in the system.

FWIW, Corey Pronman had Domi and Ristolainen ranked 1 and 2 spots higher than Shinkaruk, respectively. 8, 9, and 10. Even if we do take Nurse, he's bound to be valuable in some regard even if he doesn't fit an immediate need.
