Nice to finally have hockey plans. Not that OSU games weren't kind of okay, but this is what I've been looking forward to for so long. Fitting that the sans-Nash rebirth of this franchise with JD at the helm is 9 months later.

“@Russostrib: Until Memo of Understanding is signed, no schedules released, no transactions, training camp can't start”

“@Real_ESPNLeBrun: NHL and NHLPA still "hammering away" at CBA MOU at this hour... League isn't open for business officially until MOU is completed..”

“@Aportzline: #CBJ recalled four players after last night's @TheFalconsAHL game: LW Matt Calvert, C Ryan Johansen; D Tim Erixon, D David Savard.”

“@Aportzline: C Boone Jenner (Oshawa) recalled to training camp, too. RW Cam Atkinson and D John Moore were recalled on Friday. Camp opens with 25 guys.”

“@Aportzline: Puck-rakers: #CBJ training camp roster set - here's the roster - but league on hold pending final CBA hurdle http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/puck-rakers/2013/01/camp-roster-takes-shape.html "

“@Aportzline: #CBJ will open camp w 15 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goaltenders. Only two cuts needed by Friday, when #NHL rosters must be set.”

Wow would've thought for sure Audy-Marchessault at least deserved a look, not that Calvert doesn't either. Ah well wont hurt to give him more time and to come up even more inspired and confident that he'll finally break through.

From the link above.

This camp is not going to work like any other camp since the Blue Jackets have existed. There's a chance more players could be recalled as camp moves along, based on injuries or what kind of practice Todd Richards and his staff want to run. The short list there would appear to be dynamic winger Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, center Nick Drazenovic and defenseman Nick Holden.

Still a chance he gets a look.

Great to see. Also I've been a big fan of Nick since seeing him play early last year before the injury, might be smart to give him a spot if he deserves it and give the kids some more time to develop.

Edit: Haha I meant Drazenovic but if Holden earns a spot too then why not?

So Porty keeps saying we only need to cut 2 of Jenner Calvert Johan Savard Erixon Moore and Cam. Say we cut Johan and Savard, are we really going to put Calvert/Jenner on the bench/4th line. Wouldnt Ryan Russell make more sense? Need some clarity.

Seems like Drazenovic and JAM might be a tad angry about not being called up for training camp and are proving a point in the Springy game tonight.

2 goals and an assist for JAM. 4 assists for Drazenovic.

I can't see us burning a year off Jenner's contract for a 48-game season unless he is absolutely beastly in training camp.

I don't see how JAM doesn't get called up with the season he's having?

And that's exactly what I see him getting. The kid's good and going to be even better.
Is it once he plays 5 games he is stuck in Columbus or is it up to 5 games before Columbus has to decide?

Anyhow, lets say in the 4 or 5 games he is showing that he can play in the NHL but the team is sucking(0 or 1 win thus far), what do you do? Let him him stay because he belongs, even if it's essentially a meaningless season because the Jackets suck? Or send him down, don't waste a year off his contract because the Jackets aren't doing anything this season?

teams get 5 games without their contracts starting for the jrs

And that's exactly what I see him getting. The kid's good and going to be even better.

I'm not sure about him getting the 5. If we have an abundance of anything up front it is centers.

With these guys pretty much assured a spot

Foligno - Dubinsky - Anisimov (New Blue)
Umberger - Brassard - Atkinson (Feed the Kid!)
Prospal - Letestu - Dorsett (Old Time Hockey!)
Gilles - MacKenzie - Boll (Crash and Bash)

there is only room for one more forward be it Johansen or Jenner. If you keep Jenner then Johansen has to go down for 5 games played which might take 10 actual games or so. Only other option is you cut Gilles and keep both the J boys. Or Calvert makes it and you send both of them back.

Unless he has a real chance of making it for the whole ride, I don't see a lot of upside to keeping him.

Should be an interesting camp. (Assuming the MOU is ever signed)
