Even if we were to move Richards and Stoll to 3C and 4C respectively (which I'm all for), we would still have limited options on our wings with Clifford, King, Lewis, Carcillo and Nolan. We would either need to have Pearson step up and fulfill our 3LW spot or maybe trade for someone like Rene Bourque who would be an ideal fit as we would gain some much needed scoring without giving up any grit or size.

I don't know of Bourque being a head case, but many here would say the same about Carcillo, so, I'm not too concerned. I think Bourque would do very well under his former coach.

Scrimmage tomorrow between the 2 groups.

The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL 25m

#LAKings camp tomorrow will be a hybrid. Group A on at 10am. Group B joins at 11 for a scrimmage. Then Group B will stay on for practice.

Interesting note on Regehr 's infection during the finals that required a hospital stay.

Jon Rosen ‏@lakingsinsider 55m
Sutter, on a cut suffered by Regehr in the playoffs: "He was playing with it sewn up, and it just got infected so bad...

Jon Rosen ‏@lakingsinsider 55m
Sutter, 2/2: ...Actually, the last two games, I didn’t think he’d play because he spent the one night basically in the hospital."

I believe this news came out shortly after we were eliminated. So, for those who were overly critical of RR's signing, hopefully this news will put your mind at ease.

Any chance Vey makes the team as a 4th line center?

Williams - Kopi - Brown
Frattin - Richards - Carter
Clifford - Stoll - Lewis
Carcillo/King - Vey - Toffoli

waive either Fraser or Nolan

unless he has a phenominal camp, I don't think so. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the 4th line, but I doubt that Sutter would choose Vey over Fraser at this point.

Agreed one hundred percent. Our fourth line is mediocre.

how about for excitement
brown Kopitar Williams
Frattin Richards Carter
Pearson Vey Toffoli
Carcillo Stoll Lewis

instead of 4th liners playing a few minutes, Stoll and Lewis are on the PK and the 3rd and 4th lane are more even minutes wise?

You left out King

HAHHAHAHAHAHA...

That would be interesting.... Carcillo going on a shut down line with Stoll against the other the other teams top players.... Now you're talking.

The 4th line isn't the shutdown or checking line, that's the 3rd line. The 4th is primarily an energy line that is only out there for a few shifts per period, to give the other lines a break. And they'd never be out vs a top line, unless the other coach was able to do that on a faceoff.

Lets get crazy with this one..

Matt Frattin-Anze Kopitar-Tyler Toffoli
Tanner Pearson-Mike Richards-Jeff Carter
Kyle Clifford-Jordan Weal-Justin Williams
Daniel Carcillo-Jarret Stoll-Dustin Brown

*Lewis,Andreoff

Scoring on every line right?

Scrimmage
team Black

The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL 31m
Top combos for scrimmage... Team Black: Toffoli-Kopitar-Williams, Frattin-Richards-Carter and D: Regehr-Voynov, Greene-Forbort

vs Team White

The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL 27m
Top combos for scrimmage... Team White: King-Stoll-Lewis, Carcillo-Fraser-Nolan and D: Martinez-Muzzin, Ellerby-Schultz

Team Black on the board

Matt Frattin looks one way, goes the other way... on the ice with Kopitar and Carter. Scored on Scrivens #GOAL

Thanks for the updates DS.

Frattin sure seems to be having a ton of fun while turning some heads so far. It is early and he has made his mistakes but they are to be expected. Kid can play, that has never been the question and now that his teeth are cut I think he has real top 6 potential and is going to be a great fit.

I heard a couple of things yesterday but nothing that hasn't been said already. Can't wait to see us stand up to some competition. I reaaaaaaallllllly like this team this year. I mean really like it.

Keep em coming.

It's a beautiful day here in Philly and I should be doing a thousand things, like cleaning, getting to the garage. But on my way there, desperate for Kings hockey, I am looking at tweeter feeds to get updates on a scrimmage game. Hockey fever is setting in bad.

I , too, like this years team alot and I think Frattin will be a solid fit for that 2nd line, giving it the Poward forward/playmaker/sniper combo to make it complete.
I think Slava's gonna have a beast like year.
I also like the youth in camp.
TG, are you getting any indications or such that someone (of the prospects) other than Toffoli will make the team, maybe on the 4th line?
Also, will one of the D get moved by 10/1?

What I have heard about camp is that nobody is a lock outside of our core and that there are at least three spots in particular that are up for grabs. By the end of camp we will have our bottom D set, our second line LW set and our 3rd line LW set.

Going into camp I heard that Cliffy and King are in head to head competition for the 3rdLW spot and that we have two kids who might be able to step into that slot.

I will post more later when my computer isn't acting up. I guess lack of use is causing my macbook fits.

From Jon Rosen (LA Kings Insider) of today's scrimmage:

That said, Frattin was dangerous for much of the game and had a quality look several minutes prior when he received a pass in the left circle and snapped a shot off Jonathan Quick’s glove and out of play

I have this feeling that Frattin's gonna really shine, I'm really looking forward to him gelling on the 2nd line and becoming the power forward they need.

Nice chance for TT tomorrow to play with Kopi (where he'll end eventually someday in the near future) tomorrow.

Hopefully someone makes it on the fourth line or something. Don't like the fourth line last year.

I'm hoping some kids make the team, not in big roles but just to inject some talent in the line up.

The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL 22m
#LAKings coach Darryl Sutter also confirms Jonathan Quick will not play in both games at #FrozenFury

That's kind of a surprise...I wonder why he'd do that?

Sutter on Muzzin

The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL 5m
Candid Sutter comments on Jake Muzzin- 'He was fast fwd'd w/out earning his stripes, don't think he was too thrilled about having to go earn stripes after playing here a few yrs ago...(after last yr) I didn't think he was prepared physically or mentally 2b NHL player'

8 D to start the year??
The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL 27m
Sutter seemed to indicate #LAKings will start with 8 D-men (was assumption, as a hedge on Mitchell), but didn't confirm when asked directly.

Agree 100%, and I think Sutter seems to be open to a change like that. You put a couple hungry kids on that line and it would be better.

There's still a back-up position to be won.

Jordan Nolan has to have a rebound year. Carcillo changes the dynamic of the 4th line because he has scored more goals than any of our 4th line players and he is more of an agitator than Fraser, Clifford, Nolan or King.

If a rookie like TT forces his way to the 3rd line RW then Lewis moves to the 4th line and changes the dynamic up a bit.

Carcillo-Fraser-Nolan is quite the chirpfest fourth line. If Nolan can back it up, they'll be incredibly obnoxious to play against.
