Nice shot by Brady Skjei to give Minny a 4-0 lead.

1 goal. 1 assist. 1 missed breakaway. 1 getting stuck his face mask stuck with another teammate on a goal celebration.

All this weekend. Two periods left.

Well it appears I'm bad luck.

I turn the game on and Skjei makes a horrible Ranger-esque off the boards clear that leads to a goal.

Skjei received a lot of criticism from Gopher fans last year but he's been MUCH better this year. He's been on the first D pair with Justin Holl (CHI) and he's finally starting to look like a first round pick.

Duclair scored four goals tonight. That's 14 in 14 games. 20 points total. Great start to the season for the kid.

I am starting to like this kid.

What I especially like is that he seems to have an elite engine. We have had several of these high flying prospects for a while that has been snipers/playmakers -- like Dawes, Thomas and MSC -- but who really has not had that engine. That hasn't been their strength at least. Heck, even Kristo is a bit short there from the little I've seen of him, despite many singling out his skating as a strength. Which it might be in certain situations, but he isn't that waterbug type that always is moving on the ice at a slightly higher pace than the rest of the players around him.

That forward that got a 6th sense to find net or playmaker that is ultra-swift with the puck gotta play on a scoring line. The competition for those spots are really tough. And in the NHL, the hardest part of it all is without any doubt not to execute the top end plays but to get those chances to start with. Skating is always a big part of the equaition. A player like Kristo, and PAP and a few others that we let go, is more of the type that is really good at utilizing "quantity" maybe more than quality. You know, compare a Jagr with a Stamkos if you get what I mean. JJ wants a ton of pucks, needs a big role and players around him to support him, then JJ's strength in that role is to keep finding ways to just poor it on and sooner or later get through. Those type of players, like say Kristo, also got a bit of a problem finding a role on a good NHL team if they aren't really "elite"/top notch.

Players that can live on their skating is just by nature so much more verstaile. Take a Maxim Afinegenov for example. He had every fault Zherdev ever had. He had little hockey sense. You can question his physical play for sure and defense. Still he was always contributing for Buffalo playing all over the place, on 3rd lines, on 1st lines, on 4th lines even. He was always a player who on a shift by shift basis, more or less, had a positive impact on the NHL game.

Its a big adjustment for any kid who isn't complete, top 5-10 materia in a draft, to go from the junior leagues to the NHL and contribute. Lately, a cathegory that has made it a little more often than others, are definitely these kids who can hit the ice and really push the play with their wheels. I've seen so little of AD that I can't vouche for this ability in all these areas, but he can at least fly. He is good with the puck in traffic.

Good pick.

We also need to remember that he was a 28th overall pick in a draft that is starting to look a tad weak to be perfectly honest.

Given the absurd depth we have on LD right now, I can't say that I am all that excited about this pick. But OTOH I can't exactly point at a bunch of players we should have picked instead. I mean, sure, with absolute hindsight some guys will come from behind as they always do, but its not like we had all that much to choose from.

That's good news to have both Duclair and Graves on that roster. Good experience

Josh Nicholls better turn it on soon, because he's looking like a wasted contract spot at the moment. 2 assist in 7 ECHL games? Time to step it up, kid, or you'll find yourself banished to the CHL like Jason Wilson.

I dont think Josh Nicholls is any good.. reminds me of those type of prospects that never made it Benoit Dusablon and Layne Ulmer type...well Michael Kantor has 3 assist and 12 pim in 3 games.. i wont be shocked if he is back with the Wolfpack at some point... i also wont be shocked if Allen gets called up to see if he can play in the NHL, if Del Zotto is actually on the trade block like they did with McDonagh before Rozsival was traded.. hopefully Bickel wont get the call if that happens :help:

Definitely see a young Gaborik at times with Duclair, more of a physical game, has a little edge. But he is elusive and opportunistic like Gaborik. Kid can flat out skate, even if his offense doesn't translate well to the NHL level he could be used to retrieve pucks like Hags.

Seems like every Rangers prospect is now compared to Hags. Hags is one of the more unique players in the NHL.

I agree. He's an incredible possession player and probably the best skating forward in the NHL. But he's not big either. He's a weird one but I'm glad we have him.

Duclair is nothing like Hagelin. He really lacks Hagelin's intelligence and defensive prowess. But he has far more raw talent than Hagelin. I don't see the Kane or Iginla comparisons at ALL.

I think that was a really bad attempt at a really bad joke.... theres only 1 thing that a lil speedster like Duclair has in common with 2 power forwards like Iginla and Kane..... and its not how they play hockey :shakehead
