Because if he wants to be a NHL player, he'll accept such a deal. Why do we give a flying **** what appeals to him? As of right now, he's a waste of a roster spot. Period. His feelings are meaningless. I don't give a **** if he accepts an AHL deal or not since I don't care about losing his rights.

Wow? What are you talking about? Are we losing his rights or Calle is about to become a free agent? BOTH sides should continue to do what they need at this point - the Rangers to continue monitoring their 2012 4th round pick and Andersson to continue his development this year. Who said anything about feelings?

Jonathan- I get how you are thinking, and you could definitely be right in the end because Andersson is no matter nothing but a long shot, but I think you are underrating the 2nd tier league.

This is not 100% updated numbers, but money is everything here in Europe and a year or two ago the three highest spending teams in the Swedish 2nd tier league would have been 2-4 in terms of budget in the top Finnish league. Oliver Ekman-Larsson played in the 2nd tier league and made the jump directly to the NHL for example. Guys like Kopitar, Bobby Ryan and several other NHL stars played there during the lockout and definitly faced tough competition. To put it like this, an all-star team from the WHL, OHL or QMJHL would -- not -- hold their own at that level. An AHL team would be top 6 but defintiely no guarantee to be top 3. There are 12 teams in the SHL and if you have a bad year you are relegated, the last years big money teams has been relegated and the level down there has become quite high.

Calle Andersson is a good player, he dominated at our rookie camp last summer and has already played a full season in the SHL, and, more importantly, he is a big kid who has yet to grow into his body. He has some raw edges. Unless he develops really well over the coming 2-3 years, he won't make it to the NHL.

But I think he still can be considered as a decent prospect. Last year was good, he played at a really high level for a 18 y/o D.

This year he can still make the Swedish WJC-team. Its not optimal if he doesn't, but maybe not the end for him either.

Hopefully Duclair can keep up his production and his confidence. He started off hot last season as well, but his game-to-game intensity was all over the place. With that speed, he should never have a game where he goes unnoticed. Especially in the Q which is so high scoring.

The OHL is now more high scoring than the QMJHL.

Duclair got injured in the 4th game last year while he was crashing the net and when he came back one month and a half later, he started playing the perimeter only, eventually stopped scoring and lost confidence.

Roy and him weren't exactly in good terms either.

Roy and him weren't exactly in good terms either.

He put too much pressure on himself last year, wanting to keep up with Drouin and company. Came back way to early from his injury and couldn't put pressure on his leg. He couldn't do what he's used to do, and Roy isn't Tony Roberts, in terms of motivating players..... So, you can imagine the rest....

Carrier and Leblanc had the same injury and they took over 3 months to come back.

So folks should scratch off last season for this kid and remember when he first cracked into the league 2 yrs ago or when he was rookie of the yr in Midget the yr before or MVP in Bantam AA 2 yrs prior.

He's back now, with an added motivation (NYR) and him, Erne, Culkin, Brassard, Sorensen, Etchegary and even Herzog are all on a mission. They all want to prove to themselves and to the rest of the hockey world that they are all good enough to play at the NHL level.

Duclair will be well surrounded on the first 2 lines in Qc. We should all look forward to see him light up the score boards in the Q.

Erne Etchegary Sorensen
Duclair Archambeault Herzog

When everyone is back (Sorensen at pro camp, Etch injury & Archambeault sick) expect these 2 lines to accumulate 5-6 goals on average per game.

Plus Duclair played PK last weekend, something he never did under the old regime. His coach stated he'll give him more and more responsibilities, as he shows he can handle it. So by the time he gets to the NYR, he should be a well rounded player.

Any news on the other prospects? Especially Buchnevich & Fast

Fast is in camp with the Rangers. Read some of the PGTs for updates on him.

Buchnevich has 2 goals in 8 games with his KHL squad. He's playing around 13 minutes per night. I haven't seen any firsthand reports of his game.

Duclairs 7pts in 4 games has him at 21st in the Q in scoring, with all but one of the guys ahead of him playing more game. Hopefully he keeps it up.

any one think they'd send St.Croix or Noreau back to Junior for overage years, given the crowd in Hartford and their unimpressive play to-date?
Next year's NYR rookie pipeline is very slim,
only Donnay and Skapski will be 20 among the Junior players
Despite their promise, i doubt SKJei, Fogarty or Nieves leave school after only 2 years
Bucnevic has a contract and Anderrson and Spelling are still developing

I doubt either would go back to juniors. Noreau needs to play with bigger, faster professional players. I think he'd be far better served even in the ECHL than back in the Q, where he'd just be chasing around a bunch of kids that are scared of him.

To send St. Croix back would basically be an admission that he's not cut out for pro hockey. He has nothing left to show at that level. We know he can pile up points, and we know he can show responsible play away from the puck. The question for him is can he keep up and play quickly enough to succeed in the professional game? If he can't find a spot in Hartford, I don't think it bodes well for his professional future.

They might have offered him a contract and he might have gotten a better offer from Carolina...

And this team has so much offensive talent...

You're right. Your 3 minutes spent looking at Tolchinsky's statistics through three games at the OHL level trumps the knowledge of the professional scouting staff that has watched hours upon hours of him playing live, on tape, and in the team's own prospect camp in terms of determining what he projects to become. :dunno:

So you're saying they never make a mistake because they watch "hours upon hours of him playing live, on tape, and in the team's own prospect camp in terms of determining what he projects to become".

Please get off your high horse.

Prospects like Tolchinsky are a dime a dozen. Sure he's talented, but he is undersized and Russian. I think he'll get physically dominated in the NHL and will be on a plane back to Russia the first chance he gets.

If they were a dime a dozen, why is he one of the few players scoring at the rate he is? Why did he semi-dominate at Traverse City? Why did he look so good at the Rangers prospect camp?

The Rangers have the luxury of being able to sign a kid like that for nothing but money and instead they go sign Troy Donnay.
