Pennington sucked lol

Based on what? Winning games, throwing more TD's than Int, being a part of a competent and functional pass offense?

Yes you're right after watching Smith and Sanchez flounder for years clearly Pennington sucked!

There is a difference between being average and sucking. He had a few very good seasons, a few meh seasons and a few bad seasons. To me it averages out to good and I suspect you are being very bias when you flat determine he just sucked. The arm strength was a killer even moreso than his injuries causing him to miss time but the accuracy and intelligence of Chad on Geno Smith would = one of the top 5 Qb's in the league.

Chad could not carry a team like Brady could. Brady would have won super bowls with the same teams around him but Brady is one of thebest to ever play so to my knowledge just because you aren't one of the best QB's of all time that doesn't mean you suck. The sad fact is pennington was average-good and is one of the best QB's the Jets have ever had which speaks to how woefully, atrociously, pathetic the franchise has been at signing and developing QB's

The main point is that any Qb throwing to Andre Johnson opposite/in conjunction with santana moss (instead of all world players like Justin Mccareins, Curtis Conway, Johnatan Carter, Kevin Swayne, Chris baker, Doug Jolley, Anthony Becht who are all pass catching marvels I'm sure) would see a significant improvement in their numbers. Having a physical monster at WR like Andre Johnson would have been much better than the aforementioned names. Who could possibly argue against that?

The fact we tooK Debust Robertson instead rubs a particular amount of salt in the wounds

Eh i just never thought he was that good. Just wasnt a guy you win with.

With a great defense, you can absolutely win with a guy like Chad Pennington. Trent Dilfer and that 2002 Ravens teams is the model for what the Jets could be with a QB that isn't terrible and a functional offensive line. And Pennington was significantly better in his prime than Dilfer in his.

Jets wont win even with an offensive line, you think the problem is the offensive line? Im not even a jets fan

The offensive line is certainly a key problem though. Practically the whole offense is a key problem except for RB and Austin howard. While they haven't been bad Mangold and especially Brick are failing to come close to living up to their contracts. They're starters but I'm not sure that they're much more right now.

The offensive line is one of the team's biggest impediments to developing a decent young QB. There's absolutely no pass protection. Geno has been sacked the second-most times of any QB in the league. A part of that is that he fails to step up into the pocket, but the biggest issue is that our two guards are essentially turnstiles against decent pass rushers.

Geno would be having rookie struggles even with a decent offensive line, but the complete inability of the line to provide even serviceable pass protection has turned a struggling rookie into a guy that looks like a deer in headlights.

My point was that with a good offensive line, a "game manager" QB, a la Chad Pennington, can absolutely have great success when coupled with a great defense. Can Geno manage a game? I think he has the innate ability to do so, but without any semblance of pass protection in front of him, he's ****ing terrible.

Game manager would be ideal. We all want a stud but with Rex's defense you just need someone who is competent at managing a game.

Which makes it head scratching that we didn't trade for Alex Smith, who is just that.

I agree. Geno drops back wayy too much imo

Its the same thing with my giants. offensive line isnt good enough and i'm surprised at Mangold and Brick, i always wanted Mangold on the giants but he is stinking it up this year. What happened to him?

You also threw a rookie QB out there with no skill players.

Oh, exactly. It's ridiculous. An offensive line that can't protect him, mediocre RBs and the worst group of receivers in the NFL. It's an absolute recipe for failure, so I can't understand why anyone is surprised that he's playing so poorly. There's literally no way that he can succeed with the personnel around him.

Too many of his mistakes were on him but there is no way to argue with the valid point about how atrociously the offense is set up around him and how this led to even more mistakes and could easily have snowballed on him

even IF the Giants win today, they have Seattle next week... best they can do IMO is 8-8, we ain't beating Seattle.

Reggie Busch injured in pregame warmups. Picked up Joique Bell and am starting him. If I win, I'm in the playoffs.

4th and 5 and you go deep? Horrible playcalling.

More important was how atrocious the throw was. And it's not horrible b/c this team has had nothing offensively so why not go for it? Do they really need another 5 yards to make the inevitable FG easier?

D has no respect for the passing offense and the TE was wide open. Smith is pathetic this season. Every bit as bad as Sanchez ever was. He may develop. Ah but I'm a broken record at this point ******* it

And you're not wrong. But he was never this inaccurate in college. I watched every single game he ever played. This is all a confidence issue. He should not be playing right now. Simms should be starting.
