The Jets aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be. They still have an extremely talented defense. All they need from the offense is to not turn the ball over, and the team is capable of 7 wins. They won 6 last season with a similarly talented team and the worst starting QB in the league.
Some HOF-caliber QBs started their careers on horrendous teams. Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman for instance. Hell, Eli was 1-6 as a starter his rookie season. I don't know that there's much correlation between a QB's long term success and the quality of his team his rookie season. Would Geno be better watching Matt Simms or Brady Quinn suck all year long? I think he'll be fine.
The Sanchez injury is probably the best thing that ever could've happened to the Jets this season. A giant drama cloud is gone from the team and they have 16 games to see what Geno can do. If he sucks you have a high lottery pick and draft another QB, if he does good you have a potential future QB and something to build the team around. The quicker they get away from Sanchez, the quicker they can work on becoming a playoff team again.
