Staal has trouble with the puck. The simple little plays. The eye is a bigger issue than another concussion which also a huge issue.

Staal looked lost before taking the shoulder. He is leaning forward and left himself exposed.

Team toughness discussion doesn't need to bleed into every thread. Keep this one for injury news only.

Agree. He's had a lot of uncharacteristic mental errors this year. He's not handling the puck well. I think the eye is still an issue.

No doubt he got really dinged last night. I expect by his reaction he's going to be out again--the one good thing was he went down the runway on his own.

Staal is way past damaged goods at this point. His eye is a major issue with his play and he is prone to concussions at any moment. He will ride out this contract and Carolina will get him on a one year deal to see how his luck changes playing with his
Brothers.

Carolina hasn't been a good move for Jordan

6. Jordan Staal, Carolina
I have such high hopes and expectations for Staal, but his numbers have been in decline since arriving in Carolina, despite the fact he’s being used in a more prominent role than he was in Pittsburgh. With the Pens, whenever Staal had to step up for an injured Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin, he met the challenge. Now that his role is more integral to the team, though, Staal has been unable to live up to those expectations. He has five goals and 10 points in 29 games, which is only a slightly better pace than his worst season (2007-08: 28 points in 82 games).

Marc needs to make decisions for himself and not Eric and Jordan want

Eric is the one who concussed Marc. I wouldn't listen to him.

Why would Carolina want him if he is way past damaged goods?

Carolina has a game tomorrow so they might have today off.

I reckon we'll get an update at their morning skate tomorrow.

Standard Rangers luck here fellas. I know everyone is writing Staal off at this point, and unfortunately they might be right to do so, but it just never ceases to amaze me how this team just can't catch a break. The pre-eye injury in-form Staal is a legititmate top pairing NHL defenseman who easily tips the scales for the unit as a whole into "elite" territory. Without that Staal you're looking at an average unit. This just sucks, as usual.

So he and his brothers can tell stories about what it was like growing up as a hockey family....

Word on the street is they would lace 'em up right after school was out, and they would play until it was dark out on the old pond. Hell, momma bear had to yank them in for dinner I hear.

They even made Jared dress up as goalie, since he was the youngest (or was it Jordan? I can't remember what his dad said).

#NYR According to coach Alain Vigneault, Marc Staal is being treated for neck issues. Will not play tonight

#NYR Vigneault said the team is not sure if Staal's symptoms/neck issues are concussion-related.

AV says Marc Staal is being treated for "neck issues"..."with his history we are taking all precautions"..Staal will not play this evening

for what it's worth, that hit on staal didn't seem dirty. i didn't get to see the game, and reading about it, i was under the impression it was a cheap shot. but having a look, thanks to rangerboy, i must say it was just bad luck. i think. staal initiated the contact and just got a mouthful of shoulder. he didnt seem too shook up either. if he is out for a long time, i'm afraid he's no longer cut-out for this kind of sport.

Will all the HFwebMD concussions experts please stand up!

But really hopefully it's just some kind of neck issue that can be resolved quickly after all staal has been through itd really suck to go back to where he was a year ago

Happy to hear it's neck related as opposed to head issues. Hopefully we dodged a bullet here. I'm sure they'll be very cautious with Marc, as they should be.

I believe they call that 'Ranger Luck'

The neck was an issue with the 2011 concussion. I remember Sather wouldn't even confirm it was a concussion. Staal was under the care of Dr. Robert Cantu from Boston. The Rangers have Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher as their concussion specialist. Nash saw him.

Staal saw a specialist in Buffalo two years ago who gave him a cortisone shot.

His neck was sore from the cortisone shot, an attempt to relieve pressure on some nerves.

"They did an MRI on my neck [on Friday] and there were some points where the doctor thought he could help relieve some pressure and increase the blood flow and maybe try to help that way," Staal said. "So we took a shot at it."
