Niemis status is a bit uncertain. It has been reported that he left for Europe and signed a contract there - but capgeek.com still lists him as an RFA.

Rangers did not qualify Niemi so he's now a UFA.

[UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS

Jyri Niemi, Nick Palmieri, Michael Sauer

The players were not tendered a qualifying offer and are therefore Unrestricted Free Agents not subject to a right to match or draft choice compensation

Saw that, guess you are correct but capgeek is usually on the money...

Niemi was not qualified--it was announced by the Ranger organization and Andrew Gross, who follows the Rangers, reported it. He is no longer part of the Ranger organization. Capgeek had more important fish to fry than some nobody buried in the AHL.

Its going to be an exciting team next year. A lot of firepower with the the new players like Fast, Lindberg, MSC. Another year of Miller who should improve and hopefully a full season with Hrivik.

We'll probably have more high profile prospects in Hartford than any time in recent memory. Fast, Lindberg, Miller, McIlrath, Hrivik, St. Croix, McIlrath, Allen, and on and on. So many guys that have good to great NHL potential.

Yup, its been a long time since we saw that type of roster with the team. Really really excited for their season this year!

I think its awesome to have that number of prospects that will probably be at the AHL level already.

I also know that some discredit AHL "lifers" as some players burried in the minors with no NHL future, but I advocate that these vets play an important role when these prosects develop: They lead, they have experience, many have a work ethic that matches or even tops that of an NHL player, they are someone who can bring stability and guidance.

Therefore I find it very important to have solid and performing vets in Hartford. Newbury's loss will be greatly felt, he was the de facto Mark Messier of the Wolf Pack. I hope the NYRs organisation hasn't forgotten about this aspect.

Those who don't want AHL lifers on the squad have no idea what they are talking about. These AHL rookies are beyond raw. By the time they get to the NHL, they fix 90% of their problems, yet the other 10% still makes them a problem. When they first reach the AHL, they look like they never played hockey before.

An AHL team with only young prospects will be a disaster. They will lose by a half dozen goals almost every game.

As long as they are developing the prospects I don't care if they lose by 6 a night

realize its early but thoughts on the projected blueline if the rangers end up sending 2 or all 3 of johnson, syvret and johnson to hartford to be stored in case of injuries...

obviously mcilrath gets a top spot...do connor allen and sam noreau also get spots? or will noreau end up in the echl?

I think Noreau starts in the ECHL. McIlrath, Klassen, Bickel, Johnson, Syvret, Folk and Allen will almost certainly be ahead of him, and that's 7 defensemen. Even if one of them disappoints, Noreau is still not in the top-6. He really needs to turn it up in preseason to win a spot in the AHL.

Noreau is probably better off starting on the first pairing in the ECHL anyway, unless he really impresses in the training camp.

Falk is an NHL dman. He won't be on the Whale unless it is conditioning stint. Has to go through waivers.

Bickel is a NYR lock. Watch and see

I would rather have everyone on that list except for Allen and Klassen dress up for the NHL squad. Johnson is on the same level of suckitude. Of all the depth we acquired, if Bickel plays at all in the NHL barring a bibical amount of bad luck with injuries, I might just lose it.

Players only develop when they win? Lol

No, but you have to put a somewhat competitive product on the ice. You need guys that know the ropes, know what it's like to perform in a professional system, and can help establish some structure and accountability. Otherwise you end up with a bunch of kids getting yelled at by their coach with no one on the ice to lead by example. Sure you do some developing, but not nearly as much as you'd do with some veteran leadership.

And let's not ignore the fact that Hartford is still a legitimate professional franchise, and they have some obligation to their fans to put a winning product on the ice. It would be to no one's benefit to have the team win 15 games each season.

A subscription gets you NHL, AHL, all three leagues in the CHL, KHL and some other stuff. Quality is always pretty good on the AHL stuff but varies by arena. I didn't use AHL Live last season so I can't speak to the quality of that. HS is a good deal. For the NHL, you can also choose home or away feed.
Does the service still suffer from stuttering on HD feeds? It's cheaper than me paying for GameCenter + a VPN/proxy service to avoid the blackouts, plus I'd get AHL games...

But in the past the stuttering was too bad to allow me to watch games in HD, which is a shame because I'd send the video via HDMI to my big-screen HDTV...or would if the game wouldn't stutter, that is...

I only had it for last year so I don't have a comparison of years past, but I didn't encounter any stutters myself. I have a standard Comcast cable hookup.

You would if you had to watch them.:)

I don't know if you've ever actually played at all but you get down by 3 or 4 and are being outclassed all over the ice it kind of takes the wind out of your sails--then the game gets out of hand and you lose by 6--okay I suppose--**** happens but string a few losses like that together the whole ****ing team is going to be in need of constant supervision for clinical depression. Nobody--nobody is going to come out of that situation better for the experience. NOBODY. Even college teams depend on their seniors to help their freshmen adjust. The same goes for CHL teams.

Yeah and a bunch of horrific losses and guess how many people are going to be buying tickets. Why even bother having seats in your arena in that case.

AHL games arent available in HD, they get the feed straight from the AHL source... Some arenas have great feeds, others not so great.

NHL in HD is flawless, ive never had any issue with HD, and all i have is a 16 mbit internet connection. In reality, all you need is about 4-5 mbit. Whats important are the flash and browser settings (they got great advice on the hockeystreams website)

Michael Sauer's condition is just so sad. He worked so hard to get good in the AHL and became good in the NHL. I really, really hope he can play hockey again. He was the nicest guy on the team.

Anyways, I love seeing how the AHL roster shakes out. I'm too excited for the return of the Wolf Pack brand this fall!
