2012 CHL Import Draft

No, whispers that he might come to North America to play full-time next year. I know there are some big market WHL teams who need a good goalie, including Vancouver, Seattle and likely Portland.

Vancouver Giants already have the rights to Jonathan Illiahti (Canucks 6th rounder in '10 - I think).

I could see the Canucks pushing Illiahti to come to NA and since the G-men need a goalie this looks like a potential match made in heaven.

Portland on the other hand?

Carruth is gone, they're losing some big time offense in Bartschi and Rattie, I could see them transitioning into a more defensive team next year and would need a top flight goalie to stabilize the position for them.

I heard recently that Illiahti was a pipe dream at this point.

Well I trust your connections more than mine.

I wonder why? He isn't even playing in the FEL.

If he has NHL aspirations, it makes a lot of sense to come to the 'Dub.

I agree. I was looking forward to him coming over prior to this past season.

This whole process is actually pretty tough to wrap your head around. Most of the CHL teams picking these players have hardly ever seen these players play, with a few notable exceptions for super high-end guys.

For the guys picked late in the 1st and into the 2nd round, many of the picks are based off of word of mouth throw the hockey world including various scouts, GM's, assistant GM's and agents.

what is vancouvers OA situation look like next year. Illiahti is a 92 and will have to use up one of those spots.

Yes but no team is going to draft an overage european

I wouldn't go that far. If the player was fully committed to coming over and was a dynamite player, the team wouldn't hesitate.

I know the Blades had Marek Viedensky as a 20 year old Euro two years ago and he was named their MVP on a team that had Curtis Hamilton, Stefan Elliott, Duncan Siemens, Brayden Schenn and Josh Nicholls.

Dam, and that was a stacked team.. Kootenay was just too strong I geuss.

So Sherbrooke is going to be pretty stacked this year... #1 in the QMJHL and CHL import drafts, not to mention the expansion draft as well...

Koys and Audette will be a great tandem...

I heard Everett is VERY interested in Koys, but I think Koys will go to Sherbrooke, but I wonder if Sherbrooke will either get the people that used to play for their franchise or an expansion draft.

What do you mean ?

The former MAINEacs ?

Audette-Koys would be sick !!!

Is Koys a 95 ?

Yes Koys is 1995.

And I don't think he's talking about the MAINEacs since they were in a dispersion draft  And the past Sherbrooke teams are dispersed/out of the league too... I'm confused.

Koys is coming over for sure? What about some of the russians or guys like De La Rose and Draisaitl
No, I haven't seen anything saying that he'll be coming over.
de la Rose isn't a sure bet since he's Swedish, but Draisaitl is more likely since the German system isn't as strong (although his dad is coaching in the Czech Republic next season, so maybe that's an option).

Have you ever seen Koys play?
I have seen him several times and have to say that he is extremely overrated on hfboard IMO.

I've also heard that his development hasn't really been on par with his performances couple years back. As you clearly have seen him play, do you feel that he's still a potential 1st rounder or much lower than that?

I'm under the impression that he still has a ton of potential, but needs to leave Slovakia for a better development route. He put up PPG in the U20 league while being a15-16 year old, so he's still definitely a top 10-15 prospect in the 2014 draft. When he comes to the CHL next season we will see if he has what it takes to be a good NHL player.

If he chooses to stay in Slovakia to develop it wouldn't be the end of the world as guys like Tatar, Marincin, Gernat and Ceresnak all played there until there draft year and were still chosen. I however think Koys would be best suited to the CHL route as it will allow him to better develop his scoring touch and work on his defensive game while getting him use to a long schedule.
