2012- ATD -End of the World Draft- Sign Up Thread!

Some people like me are new and would like to experience it a couple of times.Seems like you overdosed , one ATD off and you'll probably be in agony in december patiently waiting for ATD 2013.

I might regret it as early as february.... or not. Sleeping is my favourite thing to do. It is ahead of sex, eating, and ATDing and a wide range of other highly enjoyable things.

Are we really likely to be able to pull off a particularly greater amount? The larger the draft gets the more holes you leave for irresponsible GMs to get in.

Less numbers is more feasible, but then it seems late to try and implement that.

Right on both counts kiddo, I'm just fantasizing here.

Seventieslord's suggestion of a 12 experienced GMs team draft also leaves a bad taste in my mouth , after all the time I invested and am still investing in this thing to be pulled aside like this would be pretty disgraceful.

Oh please, don't be dramatic. If anything like that ever did happen it would have to be completely separate from the atd machine currently cruising along here.

Tdmm, just send me a fb message tomorrow when you have a final list of teams and I will work on the draft order for you right away. Got a super long, busy day of work ahead of me but I can squeeze it in.

Tdmm, I guess mr. Bugg joining means that your message to me was moot.

Good to have you back.

Personally, draft size doesn't matter to me. Make it big, make it HUGE! I wouldn't mind. Imagine if we did an 80-team draft with 2000 picks, utilizing all the great research done by the hardcores in the MLD and beyond! Imagine, guys we see as 4th liners on 2nd lines, guys we see as AA players on 3rd pairings.... would be interesting.

Or, on the other hand, an "atd all stars" draft only forf guys who have been in, say, 4 atds. A dozen teams, co-GMing mandatory to ensure quality picks all the way. Think of the crazy 4th lines and 3rd pairings we could build... Ed Belfour as a backup (!!!) And so on.

I guess what I am trying to say is, after all this time, seeing the same names in the same spots on everyone's rroster every time gets tiring. Last year was a nice change from the usual and I would welcome anything besides the usual 28-32 team structure.

Honestly, if we could get the commitment for a 50+ draft I'd be in because it would be so unique. But I found the 36-40 range to just be a fun restricting range. It isn't crazy enough to forcibly break perceptions but it's big enough to leave GMs trying to break perceptions.

just out of curiosity who are the chosen 12
Well there is 24 technically cause they would all have to co-gm as well.

Thinking off the top of my head at some who have been in the ATD four times:

Seventieslord
VanIslander
Chaosrevolver
EagleBelfour
Pappyline
Papershoes
Nalyd Psycho
Hedberg
Vancityluongo
BM67
Leaf Lander
TDMM
Rick Middleton
Sturminator
nik jr
arrbez

I am sure there are others too but that is 16 off the top of my head.

I am not going to even venture a guess as to the actual names involved but in my dream it would involve 24 GMs, if possible, who all have a history of solid research and fielding competitive teams.

Is there really any point of discussing this "12 team" ATD which may or may not happen in the future?

Are we set with who the GM's will be for this years ATD? I can run the draft list on random.org if we are.

Are you going to ensure that GMs who faced each early in the playoffs last year aren't in the same division?

Not really discussing it. Just a fun exercise to see who would be in based on said requirements.

Is that really necessary? Personally I have no issues with who is in my division. I think the easiest (and fairest) way to do this is the random draw for draft order, and divisions.

If you plan on winning you will have to beat the best teams at some point. I'm not saying winning is the main purpose of this but to me it doesnt matter who I face off against in the playoffs because our teams wil be different from what they were last year.

so are we starting this **** 23th january or what?

let's make the lottery starting to get crazy in here :silly:

It's boring to face the same GMs over and over again early in the playoffs.

The draft order wasn't scheduled to be released until Friday anyway. Any earlier than that is a bonus (and it obviously will be released earlier than that).

My PM pop ups and receiving e-mail notifications about PMs are turned on, members can e-mail me, and I'm very good about PMing my list/picks. Anyone thinking of trading their first or second round picks might wanna e-mail me first, because I have a deal that may be very beneficial depending on the draft order.

Okay I think to stop confusion of all of this craziness of tlaking about three things at once on here, we should move the pseudo "All-Star ATD" or whatever everyone wants to call it, to the Chat thread, just to de-clutter this. This has nothing to do with the ATD that is about to get started, so let's just keep it there for now.

Next, there's the idea of the start date. With the draft order and divisions coming out by Friday, do we want to set the clock to begin running this weekend, and set the start for the 23rd, or have the draft order and divisions out for a week, that way there is a preparation period, and little bit of a trading period for people to decide if they want to deal full sets of picks, certain picks as Johnny O has alluded to, or etc and start the 30th. Either way I'm okay with, just something we should get decided on soon.

Finally of course, we need to have a fully decided GM roster. It looks like Hobnobs and Dreakmur are teaming up, which I believe gets us to 32 on the dot. Is there any other issue that needs to be resolved as far as this? If any other poster comes along that meets the criteria for GMing, we could absolutely allow co-GMing, as already Johnny O, Reds4Life, and a few others have said they're open to considering it, as well I am under the right circumstances.

Lets try to get this stuff figured out by Wednesday at least giving seventies or whoever is setting the divisions and draft order a few days to get totally set.

Clock starts at 12:00 noon EST on Monday, January 23.

Before that, how about we release the draft order as soon as it's done (probably tonight or tomorrow). We'll put up the ATD thread sometime on Friday and drafting can start then, but clock won't officially start until Monday.

Yep let's go with this.

To anybody who will be starting the ATD official thread , take note that I want my team name to be:

BenchBrawl - Les Canadiens De Montréal

( wanted le club de hockey canadien de montréal but I admit ti's a bit long )

thanks
