Ceresnak won't get signed. Vernace, Pyett, Segal, Collins, Niemi, and probably Ferriero will all not be tendered or brought back.

Mashinter and Palmieri....no idea.

Up with the big club Hamrlik and Gilroy are gone, and who knows with Clowe.

Coming in will be Fasth, Lindberg, St. Croix, Nicholls, Allen, Hughes, and Kantor. Noreau I say comes in and if Myles Bell is drafted or a UFA, he might be brought in as well.

If we don't resign any of the of the Hartford defensemen, we'll be short. We should definitely resign Pyett, who can play both defense and forward. I would also bring back Vernace, who has good chemistry with McIlrath. Ceresnak might get a minor league contract to play in the ECHL, but he shouldn't get his hopes up about getting an NHL contract or about playing in Hartford.

At forward, we should definitely bring back Segal, a power forward who led the team in goals. He was huge for Hartford this year. I would also resign Palm and Wiebe because they provide energy. Mash should get very strong consideration as well.

Keep in mind that Hartford's lineup is effected not just by their own injuries, but by those of the Rangers as well, so it's double the number of replacements that the team would need. Hartford can be perfectly healthy and still lose a couple of players because they are called up to New York to replaced an injured player there.

And if an injury bug hits Hartford and New York at the same time, the team would lose a ton of players at once.

I agree. It won't be Vernace or Pyett though. I don't think the organization was happy with either and it didn't help how badly they played at the end of the season. I forgot which one, I think it was Vernace, but Mitch Beck at Howlings spoke to him and he was already making plans to play in Europe. Niemi is definitely in Europe now.

I still say go for guys in their mid 20s like a Chris Summers in Phoenix who have some upside or skill to work with.

Dylan Reese, former Rangers draft pick is free.

Tom Poti might be an exception. He's another guy who might be good to bring in. I don't think the Caps resign him and while he may not be much of an NHLer anymore, he can definitely help kids in Hartford and play in a spot start. Just throwing out ideas.

He relates to Stepan in that he takes no shortcuts when it comes to the defensive side of the game. I am not expecting a clone at all.

Stepans defensive game was the thing that kept him in the NHL last year when he had something like 1 point in 23 games. Lets not understate how good he was defensively last year.

I am not expecting a Stepan clone, I just see a lot of Stepan-like qualities in him. You also have to take into account Lindberg played in a pro league last year.

Maybe O'Reilly is a more similar comparison, but I think in year one we will see an inconsistent player offensively that is very reliable on the defensive side of the puck much like Stepan was in year 1 and 2.

From there, it's anyone's guess what Lindberg can turn into. He is still developing, much like Stepan is. If someone would have told you a year ago Lindberg was going to win the SEL playoffs MVP you probably would have called them crazy.

Not good. He made good progress early on, then lost his confidence. Hopefully he's working on his skating as we speak.

I talked with a guy with great insight in his org. Nothing serious with his knee, he was bugged by a couple of injuries down the line.

They feel that he is starting to get alot of injuries at a young age, wonder if he will have injury problems going forward.

It is what he is. Injuries like this is only a sign, nothing definite. We can only hope. Personally, I also think it effects a players development alot. Most kids that come from behind and make it have 3-4 healthy years behind them.

But I am not giving up hope.

Does it seem ridiculous to anyone else that we are waiting this long for a 10th overall pick?? I mean it's just seeming like a huge disappointment that he isn't up now, and he probably won't make the team out of camp? This is looking like another top pick blunder to me...

Exactly, Staal was drafted in '05 and started for the Rangers in '08 and they were much more desperate for D-men back then. I expect McIlrath to get a cup of coffee at least next year at some point.

In 2009-10 Canuck training camp, he suffered from a very severe back injury early in the camp since the doctors misdiagnosed his injury. He probably would've made the Canucks roster if not for that major setback. He sucked in pre-season due to being misdiagnosed and was put in Vigneault's doghouse for supposedly milking the injury as an excuse of not making the roster. He went to another doctor and they told him he was unfit to play for a while. He returned to the Batallion afterwards and never showed the same dominant level he did the year before. Only played 22 games that year. The year after, he spend most of the year in the AHL for experience, then made the NHL full time the season after.

Hodgson would've made it earlier if not for major injury setback.

No, he always seemed like a bit of a project to me.

We always knew McIlrath would be a 3-4 year project at best. The idea behind it was that he was no where close to an NHL player but he was on a very steep development curve, had done nothing but drastically improve up until his draft year, and offered a skillset no one else in the draft could.

With the injuries he's had, I'll say he was setback (as far as full NHL duties go) maybe a year or so. He's right on track.
