Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but there is simply a massive difference in the size, speed, and strength between the SEL and the NHL.

I don't think there is much difference in size, but Ds in the NHL is definitely much stronger. That's the big difference.

And besides being stronger, you just get to give like 50% more in terms of shows/cross checks in the back in the NHL.

Especially if you are a good offensive forward. I've seen many players become like puck protection monsters in the SEL (the game kind of invites to that), then need alot of time to adjust in the NHL.

That cross checking and hitting in the slot only applies to our forwards...offensive players have it much easier in our crease . There should be an * on that last post .

Holland said he asked NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly if the Red Wings could bring Jarnkrok to North America now that his team, Brynas, is eliminated from the playoffs.

Daly spoke to the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation and and was told any player on the first year of an NHL entry-level contract who played in Europe this season would be allowed to come over and play in the AHL only. But, the player must return to his Swedish club by April 15 to play in tournament games and get ready for the World Championship.

“Next year, the plan is he'll come to North America and compete for a job in Detroit,'' Holland said. “This is an opportunity for him to experience North American hockey for 2½ weeks.''

Jarnkrok is arriving tomorrow from Sweden.

Same applies for Fasth

The Whale have 8 games before April 15

Just leave him there to rest up and win gold for his country. No point bringing them over.

I think any experience on the North American sized rink is a positive. Really sucks that Fasth is not allowed to come here.

It's too late now, time to spill the beans!

Spoke to someone very well connected to Modo (where Zuccarello played) and he said that he had heard this about Zuccarello, he will shortly get signed (no dtail but my guess is 1,3-1,4 annual hit on 2 year one way deal) but might be part of a trade. I dunno... I did call Fast coming over before it was announced as well...

Don't worry, AB has him joining NYR after Magnitorsk signs the papers this morning!!!!! ;)

He should come over and play, even if it's only for 4-5 games.

The experience really helped Hagelin the season before he went pro. Let him get a feel for the North American game.

And hopefully they don't bring him back. I think Fasth definietly must be very border line to actually make the final WCH's team.

The problem is that the WCH's is played in Sweden this year, and with the lockout -- with nobody having a clue who actually will make the PO's or not, with there only being a week between the regular seasons end and the start of the WCH's, with many players spending alot of their precious days in Sweden from a tax point of view (they are taxed in Sweden if they stay here for more than half the year (186 days), and many spent the entire fall in Sweden) -- MÃ¥rts probably don't have much of a clue what team he will ice.

But like no matter what, Fasth was not a core player in the last EHL tournament he played in. He is not in his best shape. He is just a year of coming of a broken leg and has had some other problems all year. If Sweden gets just 4 wingers from the NHL, I just can't see Fasth being one of the 4 wingers from Europe that actually makes the team.

With Järnkrok and Söderberg its a bit diffrent. They have better odds of making it.

So does anyone know if Fasth will in fact come over or if the Rangers want him to come over for the 3.5 weeks?

Larry Brooks reported this morning that things remain "status quo" but he probably didn't see the same article posted here a few hours ago.

I'd rather not rush the kid. Its not like if they plug him in the Rangers are going to be transformed.

Rangers got too many issues right now...

He's not even allowed to play in the NHL. It's not about rushing him. If the Rangers bring him over it's to introduce him to the organization and North American hockey for a few weeks.

snyrangerblog is saying Fasth can come to North America for a few weeks then has to go back to Sweden for the world championships.......not sure if if the Swedes are forcing him or if the Rangers are wanting him to get more experience there.

I agree not rushing the kid. If Zuccarello is signed he can be the extra forward in the bottom 6. Fasth should start in CT, same with Lindberg who hopefully comes over soon

Does it seem weird to anyone else that the kid is loan from the New York Rangers to the SEL team for the season (which is over), but NYR seems to be letting them dictate when he can and when he can't play here? I'm not saying the kid is ready to throw into the Rangers lineup today and what I expect or dont expect from him, but why the hell is it any of their business now that their season is over? He's playing on a Rangers contract all season, right?

It's been addressed numerous times in this thread. Part of the transfer agreement between the NHL and Swedish Hockey includes some sort of clause that gives Sweden ultimate authority on whether to let their guys go to the NHL in the middle of the season.

Katie Strang has new info

It is believed that Swedish winger Jesper Fast will join Zuccarello soon. The Rangers would like to bring the 21-year-old, whose team HV 71 of the Swedish Elite League was recently eliminated from playoff contention, to New York to see what he can do.

Fast is a candidate for the Swedish national team for the world championships, however, which would require him to opt out of that invitation in order to play in New York.

Fast is under NHL contract, but has been on loan to Sweden for the year. To forego his obligation overseas, Fast and or the Swedish National Team has to "confirm he has no intention of participating," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com via email. Fast's agent, Kurt Overhardt, doesn't foresee that as a problem.

"Everything has been positive," Overhardt told ESPNNewYork.com when reached via phone Monday morning. "We hope to have a resolution in the next day or two."

Craig Custance mentioned Fasth in his column today

Colleague Katie Strang reports that the Rangers will be getting an immediate boost with the addition of Mats Zuccarello and the possible addition of Jesper Fasth. ("He can skate like the wind," an Eastern Conference amateur scout said this weekend).

So its looks like Fasth is coming and won't be returning in 3 weeks.

So the Rangers want Fasth to come to NA and stay here? Can't say I disagree. Don't need to play long-distance yo-yo with him.

Also, IDK what the proper spelling is, but Fasth looks cooler, so I'm going with that.

Good. Fast(h) better not be returning. This ludicrous ******** that he "had to play" in the WC was really pissing me off. Especially with the Swedes acting like they were loaning him to us when WE loaned him to THEM.
