WHALE WATCHING
Talbot in the net. Miller starting in the faceoff circle.
Good shot on Talbot 14 seconds into the game.
Monarchs announcer says, "I don't know if you've seen McIlrath before, but he's a very impressive defenseman. Saw him last time in CT, very, very impressive."
Jean with a good defensive play.
Miller skating well.
Talbot playing well, but gave up a goal post on a very hard slap shot.

The Monarchs announcers were still raving and moaning about how great the save was and how you won't see a better save at any level.
At the end of the period, Noob to Ferriero, it hits his skate and gets to Kreider who uses his speed to go on a semi-breakaway and score on the backhander despite a bouncing puck.
Miller creates a semi-breakaway of his own, but is stopped.
FIRST PERIOD OVER.
SECOND PERIOD.
Talbot putting on a clinic on how to play goal. The rest of the team figures, "why bother play defense when Talbot will stop it anyway."
After making 28 saves in only half a game, Talbot finally gave up a goal. The puck was passed from the left by Oy-Vey across to Weal who re-directed it at the right post. Nothing Talbot could do. I could've scored that one on Lundqvist.
M&Ms score again at the end of the second. You can't allow almost one shot per minute and expect to win.
F-ing Bickel should go down a few more levels of hockey. How does the Federal League sound? Maybe he can be useful for the Brooklyn Aviators cuz he sure as hell hasn't be useful today. Both goals are his fault 100%. On the first goal, he failed to take him man at the right post. On the second goal, he left a man straight in front of Talbot to go chasing for the puck behind the net knowing nobody else is protecting the goalie. Piece of crap!
END OF TWO. Horrible, horrible hockey from the Whale. Could've been 6-0 right now if not for Talbot's heroics and Kreider taking advantage of his one scoring chance.
THIRD PERIOD
Talbot continues to make more big saves. Even Monarch announcers are saying that no matter what happens, even if the M&Ms win, Talbot should be first star of the game. And now some more big saves by Talbot.
Tripping on Kreider after turning over the puck. Five straight penalties on the Whale since the second period.
Monarchs are trying to get a little too cute out there because 1) they know they can't score on Talbot with a normal shot and 2) they know that the Whale won't be preventing them from doing anything.

The Whale took a penalty with under 2 minutes go to, pulled Talbot and gave up an empty netter. Terrible loss. Talbot should punch all of them in the face right now for this non-effort, Bickel should be punched twice once for each goal he was responsible for.

Yes because the team doesn't play when Talbot is in the net. Either they hate him or they are over-confident when he's in the net because he inevitably faces a barrage of power plays and fast breaks. When he gets to the Rangers, he'll be stunned at what's going. Won't know what to do with himself when every other play isn't a 2 on 1.

STARS OF THE GAME:
1. Talbot. Arguably the greatest goaltending performance I've seen at any level. 44 shots and 24 scoring chances against him tonight. Even the Monarch fans were cheering for him when he was announced as a star of the game.

Happy to hear about Talbot's performance, bummed to hear about the rest of the team's performance. Hopefully those guys can give him some more support because he seems ready to turn it on for another playoff run.

I can never forgive Sather for no getting a dman at the deadline.
That was our year.

overused video, but i really didn't think bickel was our problem (unless you consider him riding the pine for 100 minutes because of tortorella's coaching decision). it was gaborik being hurt and having nothing else to make up for that scoring loss.
great to hear talbot had a good game. horrible to hear nobody else did. this is the team down there that should be winning a calder. should be unstoppable. is d really that weak or is it just bickel making boneheaded moves?

That was a nice save by Pickles, but that was LITERALLY the only good play he has made in the NHL. (Unless you count those early assists he had, lol)

Nothing going on there. Stajcer was hot for two months, then had three average games, and the team decided to go with another goalie for the playoffs. They are down 3-1 in the first round, with our kid Danny Hobbs scoring the game winner in the one game Greenville won.
Too bad Stajcer isn't starting. After a slow start, he finished with good numbers at 2.66 and .914.
If Talbot makes the Rangers next year, I wouldn't have much of a problem with Mission and Stajcer doing their thing in Hartford. I think one of them would be ready to start.

Not to worry on Fasth. He has/had a sprained knee and you really gotta let that thing alone for awhile to heal or else it will keep coming back. He'll be fine, he just needs an NHL strength and training program and the injuries should go away. Spending time with Reg Grant and his staff like he is now will help.
SEL Finals starts tonight if I'm not mistaken from our Swedish posters here so he might come over in a week or two depending on how that long a series it is.

After facing 44 shots with no support yesterday, Talbot is again starting. Kenny G is clueless. Why not let him rest today, have the backup start against the worst team in the AHL, and then have a rested Talbot start against the second-best team in the East?
FIGHT: One of the greatest fights ever between McIlrath and Fitzgerald. It went on forever with both sides punching each other with total disregard for defense. The linesmen tried to stop it twice. MCI almost stopped once, but Fitz decided to sucker punch him. The Undertaker punched back and accidentally knocked out the linesman, who had to go back to the locker room for treatment. The two fighters both showed good fighting ability, but MCI landed several times more punches than he took.
Noob turns over the puck on a power play, ADK player intercepts around the blue line, moves up a few feet and fires the puck. Talbot gives up one of his signature WTF goals. 1-0.

No, wasn't even kicked out of the game or punished for it in anyway. In fact, Hartford was saying that he shouldn't even get the 10 minute misconduct for prolonging the fight because it was Fitz who did so and MCI merely responded to defend himself.

Whale pass hits Palm's skate and becomes a 2 on none. Talbot gets part of the puck, but it goes in. 2-0. Can't believe we are getting beat up by this terrible team again.
Was about to write that Hrivik is playing well, and he scored just as I thought that. Nice shot from above the circles. Good pass from Thomas. Tessier was standing in front of the net, screening the goalie. It's possible that he deflected it, but they are saying Hrivik with the goal for now. 2-1.
Seconds after the goal, Bickel got into a fight. However, it looked more like Greco-Roman wrestling than a hockey fight.
Almost immediately after the fight, the puck is dumped into the left corner and Ferriero tries to center it, but the puck goes in. Terrible goal for the Flyer Phantoms to give up, but I'll take it. 2-2.
Ferriero and Mash looking good together, and not just because of the lucky goal.
Mash scored. Miller passes to MCI in the right circle, he misses, the puck gets to Vernace on the blue line, who throws it in front and Mash intercepts. MCI is looking good today, both with the puck and on defense.
ADK with another SHG. Holy crap. 3-3.
Kreider with a good shot, Segal with a rebound, but no goal.
END OF TWO.

The AHL still gets those kinds of rejects, sadly. I've only ever been a fan of the guys who can skate/play and also stand up for his team and fight. That's why a guy like Newbury or Mashinter can become a fan favorite so quickly. They do it all.
