Hit in the mouth with what? A stick, the puck, an elbow, a tire iron ???

From what I could see, elbow, but it wasn't bad and he's back playing. That "injury" is already forgotten about.

SECOND PERIOD

Ferriero with a very good shot on... Mission. Won't count as a save, but that didn't make stopping an own wrist shot any easier.

Mission fumbled a rebound badly, but ADK missed the net. He's not looking as crisp as before, as I predicted to start the game that his game would suffer because he is playing tired.

Pyett is a good, smart defenseman with solid size and speed.

PENALTY ON PARLETT. Score on the 6th second of the PP. The Whale gave up goals on both PKs after going 28 for the previous 29. Can't believe they are looking to ADK again.

PENALTY ON ADK. Thomas dumps it in and there's a bounce of the wall. Haley had an empty net and failed to convert.

Haley with another chance, but the puck was intercepted by the goal before he got it. He's skating well, just not converting.

Mission not sharp and getting progressively worse this game. He's not terrible, just not what he was the last 7 times he's played.

And now we just gave up a goal and down 3-1 to the worst team in the AHL. MCI gave up the puck.

Not a good game by MCI. Gave away the puck repeatedly with his indecisive play. When Beukeboom said he's getting better every game, he wasn't being honest. MCI has gotten worse in the last few weeks.

SCORE WITH 4.5 SECONDS LEFT: 2 on 1 against the Whale is broken up by a good play by Vernace. Pyett grabs it, passes to Ferriero who sends it to Segal, who looked like Callahan on several goals this year, as he skated from the left around a defenseman, protecting the puck with his body, getting the goalie to commit and to go down and then as he got to the right, he just roofed the puck. This was a bad period by the Whale, but the late goal to make it 3-2 helps.

THIRD PERIOD

Palm creates a scoring chance by working hard along the boards, driving behind the net and passing the puck to Niemi, then getting a rebound, but it went off the post.

PENALTY ON VERNACE. And ADK scores 9 seconds into it. They are 3 for 3 on the PP. The puck was passed from right to left and was nailed into the net.

PENALTY ON PARLETT just seconds after the last PP goal. And ADK is now 4 for 4 on the PP. Holy crap.

PENALTY ON ADK. Drawn by Tessier. Nothing happened.

PENALTY ON ADK. Drawn by Pyett. Nothing happened except one decent shot by Vernace and another by Thomas. One team is 4 for 4 on the PP and the other is 0 for 4. I wonder which will win this game.

MCI continues to look bad with the puck. He looks like he's panicking, completely unsure what to do every time he's touching it.

Thomas needs to get benched again. He's back to his bad habits of trying to stickhandle and play the boards despite being incompetent at both. He was so good when he was firing the puck at every chance, but not, he is trying to turn himself into Adam Graves when he's not built to do that.

PENALTY ON NIEMI. Can the Whale kill at least one freakin' penalty tonight? Oh baby! Yes, they can. They actually killed a penalty. Now I can die in peace. :sarcasm:

GAME OVER.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Bourque: hustled the whole game, displayed his big-time shot, his terrific speed and his smarts. Scored the first goal.

2. Segal: scored a beautiful goal and did well tonight.

3. Palm: hard worker who created opportunities, one of which (Bourque's goal) went in.

Honorable Mention - Pyett: good player who's very consistent.

Kenny G is a moron who should be fired. The fact that we gave up 5 goals tonight is his fault. A moron could've told you that Mission will be tired. Who starts a goalie that just yesterday faced almost 40 shots, went into the OT and then into a very close shoot-out, particularly when that goalie started a bunch of games in a row?

Every decision Kenny G makes is moronic. For the first half a season, he kept Vernace together with Collins even though they look terrible together, and much better apart. There were a bunch of other dumb moves by him that anyone with eyes would know isn't working.

I haven't really followed the Whale, but I always read your updates (thanks by the way for that), so please correct me if I'm wrong with this assessment of Gernander:

A guy who spent his entire career in the AHL and unable to crack the NHL lineup, shouldn't be developing prospects to try and get them NHL ready. I just don't feel like he knows what it takes to make it to the next level considering how unsuccessful he was at.

I personally feel a little worried that our AHL coach had almost 1000 career AHL games to like 20 NHL games.

Kenny G was similar to Noob, much better at the AHL level than NHL. He was good all-around, not great at anything specific. He was the Bingo/Hartford captain forever, so the thought was that he knew how to lead and could help players with their skills because he could do a little bit of everything.

But he is not good at decision-making. And his pre-game speeches (in Traverse) didn't sound inspirational at all.

I don't like him. Tonight isn't the first time he's made brutal decisions. He would start Talbot when he needed rest after Mission already proved he is competent. Now he does the reverse.

The team also looks terrible at times. They are running around like a bunch of 8 year olds who all go after the puck with total disregard for all else.

We need a better coach.

I agree Beacon, always thought the organization was too nice to the guy. I saw Gernander play live, many times. Total minor league Pro, which is pretty good, but barely sniffed the NHL, when he did his brother in law Trent Klatt(wow that name seems old already) gave him a concussion.

Some really good coaches were mediocre players. But at least most of those guys played as a regular in the NHL, playing under some good pro coaches. Who coached Gernander in the minors? I can't even remember, probably a sad list of names.

Also, thanks for being objective with MCI. That recent Beuk article sounded like a fluff piece. Maybe MCI is just going through a bad streak, thats why any thoughts of bringing him up soon should not be entertained. Bring him along, don't throw him to the wolves just yet.

John Paddock was one of the guys who coached him.

MCI by himself does not assure us anything yet. And stop assuming he's just gonna fit right in with no problems. Just like DelZ, McD, and Girardi all have right?

Yea! Stop it! Because you're...hurting people? Wait why does he have to stop hoping? DZ came right to the bigs from the OHL McI is in the AHL. I believe last year McI stayed with the team for a few games before being sent back to the CHL too. DZ at that time was on his way to a great rookie season. So technically he already failed to fit right away. You predicted a future that will happen...in the past! So that's why you...you STOP IT! No! Bad! Abandon hope all ye who enter HFNYR. I'm having some fun but I agree he'll prob need some adjusting but since he has already had an extra year in the CHL and now the full AHL season next season he may very well be ready. Then again he may not. (Now I went back and read the last two pages of this thread) Makes sense I'm looking forward to next year but I expect nothing from him in the NHL right now.

Yeah, won 2 AHL championships with teams that were stacked with AHL all stars. His NHL record was pretty poor. And he also didn't play in the NHL much.

Theres alot you wrote here, not sure if you were saying most of this tongue in cheek. But if you're gonna compare Del Z to MCI I don't know what to tell ya.

so does CT need help on D? looks like Bickel is on the way.....I would think since he cleared waivers. NYR has 30 days to do it

Hmm...

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 14s
NYR Stu Bickel clears waivers. Will play for CT today.

That's quick. I'm wondering who sits for him though. If I could pick it'd be Sean Collins but he wears an A and Kenny seems to love him. God Collins is awful.

Collins is like the Bickel of the AHL. He belongs one level below, but the coach seems to love him.

I am not sure what value he brings. He can't score, and his own-zone play isn't good enough for him to be paired with an offensive defenseman like Vernace or Parlett. To me, he is the obvious choice to go down to the ECHL.

I really hope Kenny G doesn't move Pyett back to forward just to keep Collins in the lineup. If we add Stewie to the defense, and add Hrivik (and Noob) to the offense, this team would have a totally different look to it. It would be one of the strongest playoff teams.

If Kenny G starts Mission tonight, he should be placed in a straight jacket.

It's a comparison about development not a comparison of them as players! And I guess it's more of a contrast since I was pointing out how different their routes have been. So in essence I was pointing out how not the same they are. McI needed an extra CHL year. McI has needed the AHL he's never sniffed the NHL thus far wheras MDZ obviously was much diff. Point was there's no reason to stop hoping b/c one fan hoping doesn't hurt a soul but realistically McI prob won't b good enough yet

It's Pyett to forward according to Bob Crawford:

Bob Crawford ‏@HawkCrawford 2m
Warmup lines for @CTWhale vs. Sens: Haley-Tessier-Thomas, Mashinter-Ferriero-Bourque, Palmieri-Jean-Segal, Carroll-Yogan-Pyett.

Def. pairs for @CTWhale: Vernace-Bickel, Collins-McIlrath, Klassen-Parlett. Talbot starts in net.

Yeah, if Kenny G doesn't play a defenseman at forward, he won't be able to sleep that night. I hate this. Would've preferred Wilson at center, Pyett on defense and Collins in the ECHL. Wilson makes fewer errors. He doesn't do much of anything, but neither does Collins. He better be dynamite in the locker room to deserve to play every game no matter what happens.

I miss Wiebe.

=====================

I have a meeting at 3 pm, so I will be doing my "live" commentary late.

Been saying this for a couple of years now...not particularly impressed with how Hartford is developing forwards and handling goaltenders.
