OT: 2012-13 Lockout Discussion Part X: Is There Any Hope? Edition

I think they should find a way to keep gabby and Mdz like you proposed above. We only have to bridge gabby for the last year of his contract then hopefully he would resign for a lesser average per year due to age/injury history as Sathers leverage. As for MDZ we have absolutely no power play quarter back and I know he has not been great at it yet. He is the only one with the offensive upside in our system to get there. Our power play is bad enough now.

Anyone know if stall can play both sides on d ? If so maybe pair him with MDZ. That would have a beuke/leetch feel to it. And give MDZ some confidence to jump in the play more.

Looks like Staal is LD only and DZ is way better LD as well. McD gives the Rangers a great top 3 LD. I imagine all the rumors about the Staals in Carolina will occur when Staal is in his last contract yr. He very well could be dealt to the Canes for say Faulk a young RD, 1st and another descent prospect.......similar to Jordan Staal deal

Rangers could use Skjei on LD 3rd pair eventually and a stop gap till he's ready

FORWARDS
Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($2.600m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Carl Hagelin ($1.450m) / Oscar Lindberg ($0.760m) / Kyle Jean ($0.925m)
Micheal Haley ($0.600m) / Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Andrew Yogan ($0.800m)
DEFENSEMEN
Ryan McDonagh ($3.600m) / Dan Girardi ($3.325m)
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Anton Stralman ($1.700m)
Michael Del Zotto ($2.000m) / Stu Bickel ($0.750m)
GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $60,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,926,667; BONUSES: $1,190,000
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $73,333

Its too optimistic to think Jean, Lindberg and Yogan( who is in the ECHL no?) can make the team next yr. I would say Lindberg as a faceoff guy replacing Halpern could happen but the others likely not. Place Miller in there instead and a cheap vet..........Top 6, G and D look right though..........Cap wont be 60 million since its unrealistic, 65 million will be the total I beleive

is bryzgalov leaving the khl heading back to USA telling people the lockout is over???

Good sign, still I'd feel a little better if it were someone other than Ilya Bryzgalov leaving his KHL squad and declaring lockout over

anyone know, any truth to this?

Looks like there is more to it than that:

It looks like Ilya Bryzgalov‘s tenure with the KHL’s CSKA Moscow will end on Monday, according to R-Sport’s source.

“The reason, most likely, is that the lockout should be over pretty soon in Bryzgalov’s opinion,” the source said.

Of course, given that this is Bryzgalov, the story isn’t that straightforward.

“Bryzgalov has indeed worn out his welcome in CSKA,” Sport-Express’ Slava Malamud argued. “The move is the club’s, not the goalie’s.”

Bryzgalov ran into some problems with the media during his tenure in the KHL. He reportedly complained that the media was writing filth about him.

Bryzgalov was not the everyday starter for CSKA, which was reportedly not well-received by the $51-million man.

According to the sportbox.ru report, Bryzgalov told reporters all KHL season long that his time in Moscow would be temporary.

thanks for the info...haha, I figured it was a bit premature for players to be saying stuff like that and coming back here

I promise you Yogan wont make the Rangers next year. I will be happy if he is anything more than a Hartford 4th liner.

Fast gets too much hype because he started last season hot before getting injured. He too wont make it.

Lindberg is a possibility, but i wont bet my money on it. As for Miller, he probably starts the season in Hartford, then moves up to the NHL during the season.

Thomas is another outside possibility, if he gains 10 pounds and starts to bury the puck more.

Jean will get a shot. He is big and solid in all three zones. He can also play all 3 forward positions and in any situation. I like him a lot as a future role player on the Rangers. Reminds me of Anisimov, though a little more versatile and a little less talented offensively.

And finally, the guy wih the best chance is Marek Hrivik. He is already an AHL first liner. He played on a defense-first junior team, so his stats werent great, but he learned to play defense, which will help him in the long run. His offense is excellent, and if he didnt play on such a horrible team, his stats wouldve been through the roof now.

Dont forget Kolarik either.

Odds of making the Rangers at some pont in the next calendar year:

1. Kreider: 90%
2. Hrivik: 60%
3. Kolarik: 50%
4. Miller: 50%
5. Jean: 25%
6. Lindberg: 25%
7. Thomas: 15%
8. Fast: 12%
9. St. Croix: 5%
10. Newbury: 5%

All others dont have a prayer.

Edit: c&p wrong tweet

@bryzgoalie30: This article is complete BS, i did not make any comments like that:-)Bryz leaves Russia because "lockout is ending" http://t.co/xgdypI8a

How is Stralman a priority over Del Zotto? I doubt the Rangers see it that way.

He will cost half as much.

He's a 4-6 defenseman. In his last full season he put up 30+ points. From the right side, which is an organizational weakness.

The cap is going way down. Its no longer an issue of who is clearly better. Its about value for your money.

McDonagh, Staal, Stepan, Calllahan, Lundqvist, Girardi ARE more of a priority than Del Zotto. They all need new contracts. You have to make sacrifices. And have to think about who will bring back value.

Like I said. McDonagh and Staal on the left side.

You can trade Del Zotto and fill an organizational need. Depth down the middle and on the RW.

If you want Richards, Nash, and Lundqvist on your roster you have to find what can be sacrificed.

Stepan our #2 center? No.
Callahan our captain? No.
McDonagh, Staal, Girardi? All 1A D. No.
Lundqvist, vezina winner? No.
Hagelin, Stralman won't make enough to be a burden.
Nash and Richards our 1A winger and center. No.

Gaborik and Del Zotto are the logical sacrifices.

They've been drafting and building the defense depth. Guys like Skjei and McIlrath are in the system for a reason. And the draft and development system is going to be more important moving forward then its ever been.

Sather is going to hardball Del Zotto. Del Zotto is going to play hardball. He's going to want to cash in. Rangers are going to have to decide if its worth it to overpay for him when we already have two #1 left defensemen.

It'll be interesting to see how things shake out.

Can't trade MDZ right now. If Sauer was healthy, maybe, but as it stands, Stu Bickel is this team's #6 dman. Moving DZ destroys the Rangers defensive depth. Does anyone really want a pairing of Eminger-Bickel?

Mr. and Mrs. Eminger and Mr. and Mrs. Bickel?

Completely agree.

When the Canucks amnesty Keith Ballard, I wouldn't mind picking him up for the bottom pairing.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun: League welcomes a full NHLPA counter offer. And you can bet they'll very likely get one...

Hopefully Bettman doesn't go storming off like a little kid after they get it...again.
