2009 Born for the 2025 OHL DRAFT

I am curious why you feel Sawaiya, MacAslan are top kids, is it the size? If then, why not Day on Guelph or Underhill on Halton? Moreover why Larmand on Barrie and Partridge on Niagara? Partridge skating needs a ton of work and his IQ is not level of some other players, like Scarpelli Halton or Krula on Oakville, both put up a ton of points for several years, but both need to build strength and size? Size is not everything, just one attribute. I have scouted the OMHA's for years and found a lot kids were overlooked because of 1-2" height, even though they are better skaters, have higher IQ and have a high high compete level.
He’s generally identified the top players identified by central scouting, so it’s fair to say he’s on the right track. I’m not trying fro stir it up, but what makes you feel like you know better? It’s just a general look at some good players.

Who is your son and why is he better?

I was just asking a question, because I myself watched a ton of OMHA games and don't have access to the central scouting. Not meaning to stir the pot at all. appreciate your time.

had kids that played, 2000 and 2002 born.

So a ton to talk about here...
You just compared Sawaya and McAslan to Day and Underhill.
Larmand and Partridge to Scarpelli and Krula.

OHL teams do not care about points (even though Larmand and Partridge both produced at higher rates than both Scarpelli and Krula)

You say you watch the games, so you can't honestly tell me that they compete harder than Larmand and Partridge, both of which have some of the best compete in the draft class. Larmand is the best skater of the group, and everyone knows Partridge isn't the prettiest skater but he's still effective in his movement, but it could get cleaned up a bit.

There's a reason why Krula doesn't play on Oakville's top line or PP, there's nothing special there. And Scarpelli can put the puck in the net, which is an asset but outside of that, most games he's invicible. There's a reason why Taylor took over that top spot on the top line, he's simply a better player, who complimented Sementsov strengths.

Sawaya and McAslan being touted higher than Day and Underhill doesn't really need an explanation, just watch the games.

I understand you being an advisor, and either wanting to promote your kids or trying to understand why they aren't as highly touted, but let's try to be a little less bias towards the kids you represent. Those 4 kids will probably get drafted as well, just maybe not as high as you'd like.

well, to be honest i dont see alot outside of the one D on ajax, he named about 6 guys off oakville and i dont think hes really wrong on any of them. the patridge kid isnt a great skater but smart, bigger, scores.

i dont know barrie that well but everyone raves about larmand and hes expected to be a top round guy.

why do you think others may be better, who would you like to talk about?

As far as Partridge is concerned, he is a smart and respectful kid with tons of character. He is a good hockey player but you can't coach intelligence, respect and character. They can fix his skating (if needed) and his hockey instincts

All fair comments, and I appreciate the feedback. Thank you for your time. God bless

Why do you answer like that? Even if he was a father, who the hell are you to be such an asshat.
I honestly didn’t take offence to this, I get where he is coming from, hockey parents are not easy to deal with. With that, I was told this forum would help me get feedback, for my clients, from some knowledgeable hockey enthusiasts, and I got it. Thanks everyone, let’s move on to the draft and enjoy hockey, it’s a great game

That's good of you, but I've seen the accusation of being a parent thrown about more than it should so it rubbed me the wrong way.

do you charge your kids?

I could have asked the question in a better way, instead after reading it again, it sounds like I was discounting the persons answer, but that was not the case. OHL Finale game will be a doozy, I don't remember anyone winning the final as a wild card? could JRC be the first?

I do charge, but its only if the kid makes the draft, otherwise I do not take any money. I am thinking that I may be a little out dated in my foresight of a kids talent and don't want to mislead any parents moving forward. After last year, I made the assessment that few kids would go in the draft, and didn't, and I felt really bad, hence why I am trying to really do my due diligence in managing expectations.

I wouldn't take it to heart he's like that with everyone lol.

One piece of advice i could offer would be to keep the expectations low as far as the draft assumption goes.
It's not something within you're control so I would shy away from putting you're name on that.
Crazy parents will eat you alive when those kids do not get drafted that you say will be drafted.

Noted and Thank you.

I have a grandson playing in HEO for the Upper Canada Cyclones, and watched a ton of games this year in the Ottawa area.

I've been keeping tabs on some of the local kids for years, and I've watched a ton of U15 - U18 games over that time, and this has to be one of the more impressive draft eligible crops from HEO I've ever seen. Not a ton of super-stars, but some real solid talent.

Just to name a couple of kids from each of the HEO teams that impressed me this year.

Ottawa Valley Titans - Top team in the league by far. Many great players to choose from.
1. Kaden MacGregor - A no-brainer for sure, and while I see lots of high regard for him here, I don't think he gets the same level of attention as some of the Toronto area kids do. This kid should be on every teams' top 3 list.
2. David Buchman - Top D in the HEO league. Good skater, good decision maker, and solid positionally; he just rarely makes any mistakes. This kid was really fun to watch for those who know what they are looking for. Should go reasonably high in the OHL draft (2nd round?).

UCC - Strange season for them; lots of ups and downs, but performed pretty well in the playoffs.
1. Carter Beauchesne - Loads of talent, and can score, but needs to focus on playing hockey right. Too much diving and complaining, and takes too many undisciplined penalties.
2. Quinn Young - Good skater, smart player, and can finish. This team had a great PP this year, mostly due to Young's play. He's always hard on the puck, and difficult to bounce him off of it.

Myers - Took a step back this year losing Buchman to the Titans. Couldn't remain consistent.
1. Alex Tangalin - Solid D, with good sense and skating. Like Buchman, he doesn't make too many mistakes. Lots of potential with this young player.
2. Will Mullins - This kid plays good hockey - he can skate, he can shoot, and he can pass. This team appeared to struggle at times with team play, but Mullins seemed to always stand out.

Eastern Ontario Wild - Better season from that of previous years; lots of changes in the line-up.
1. Dax Mackinnon - Undersized, but doesn't play like it. This kid was probably one of the strongest (physically) in the league despite being 5'5" (or less). He's quick, and can finish.
2. Alex Campeau - Big, strong kid. Appeared to have lost a bit of a step this year, but still produced. Good decision maker, and shows great patience with the puck.

Ottawa Jr 67s - Great season as far as this group is concerned. Unfortunately, they have been a weak team for years, but changed coaching dramatically, and brought in players who worked hard. 0 Wins in their regular season last year, to almost making HEO playoffs this year.
1. Will Walker - Not a great skater, but can simply just finish. He doesn't look like much, and needs to work on his D-zone game, but somehow put up points for a traditionally weak team.
2. Caleb Killeen - Ok skater, great passer, and sees the game very well. Great on face-offs, and D-zone, but needs to build on his offensive game and skating speed.

Not saying that these boys will all be drafted, but just some general observations.

I will say this. I don’t watch the U-16 kids so I rely on a lot of what is said on threads like this. But, as a 67’s fan, base don a lot of what has been said and the lack of talent on the Defence side, I was thinking a few weeks ago before the final standings were set that if the 67’s managed to get McGregor in round one and Buchman in round two with the Niagara pick, they would be doing really well if they are focused on a centre and D-Man with their first two picks. I’ve seen a lot of positive talk about Buchman. I am sort of excited to see him in the league next year, hopefully with Ottawa.
