Ross Johnston is so terrible at hockey. I'm not even talking about the Carlsson thing. He's just a waste of space.

Harkins-Lundestrom-Johnston is the stuff of nightmares.

I hope Leo uses this experience as fuel for the offseason, and has a serious urge to improve his balance, flexibility and strength. That would be a silver lining to come from this game.

Has anyone offered an explanation as to why an interference penalty resulting in a clear injury was not caused a major?

Another winnable game wasted. There is no excuse for the way they play. There is a construction issue, no question. But the coaching decisions, lack of structure, and lack of growth are indefensible. Cronin has to go and I really hope Verbeek doesn't wait until the end of the season.

In addition to the coaching issue, the Ducks have two turnover machines on defense in LaCombe & Gudas while they have two forwards not pulling their weight and actively bringing their lines down with them in Killorn and Strome. I really hope Verbeek doesn't wait until the end of the season, or contract, to remove them both.

You're half correct on the turnover machine. Here's a d-man table of stats I collected on the 21st from Hockey-Reference.

Gudas is the biggest giveaway d-man on the team and worst Take-Giveaway differential. LaCombe, at that time, has the best Take-Give differential among our d-men.

Using the standard Verbeek cited during the summer, the team is hovering around .500 to start the season and that should be enough to sate Verbeek. The Ducks' GA is in the top-10 for fewest allowed. We finished 30th last season. While I don't like the product on the ice much, there are positive things for Verbeek to cling onto for sticking with Cronin. Verbeek needs to be eyeing offensive minded head coaches for next season b/c I don't see a high-end offensive system sprouting out this season on a consistent basis.

Game completely changed when Leo got hurt.

Absolute shameful response by the Ducks in regards to this. Ross says some words at intermission to him and that's it. Can this useless sack of meat get out of the league already? the only thing worse than having no enforcer is having a bad one. Ducks have a bad one. STOP PUTTING HIM IN, HIS HITS ARE SOFT AND HE IS COMPLETLEY VOID OF ANY REDEEMABLE TALENT AND DOSEN'T FIGHT WHEN WE NEED HIM TO.

Gudas honestly should've just beat the hell out of that punk once it happened but for whatever reason didnt.

This was the most shameful game I've ever seen out of a Duck team, could you imagine the 06-07 team's reaction to this? this isn't Ducks hockey. This is coward clown hockey.

This is a real enforcer:

enough of these pretend tough guys, get a real one already.

I love watching our star player get taken out with a blind side cheap shot, and the team does nothing in response. Very cool reaction.

Anyone that thinks Johnston is actually worthy of being in the team is cooked, literally invisible and does nothing when our star player is taken out. An absolute wuss of an 'enforcer'. He's even worse then Parros was in Anaheim, and that's saying something

I'm wondering if Carlsson's injury is a concussion - looks like his head snapped back and hit the ice pretty hard on the replay.

Samuels-Thomas.
Legitimately the worst referee in the NHL and it's not even close. This guy goes from refereeing for the first time in his life in the AHL (and even getting NHL pre-season games within a few months of starting his career!), and then is a full time NHL referee within 15 months of starting. What a joke.

100% agree on Johnston. If he's not jumping to lay a beating in a situation like that (and I want someone around to handle those circumstances) where Carlsson gets layed out - what purpose does he serve at all? He's absolutely terrible at other facets of the game by NHL standards, doesn't move or react well enough to be a physical presence. There's a reason why other scrappers are big names around the league and everyone likely forgets this guy plays for us - he doesn't make his presence known at all.

Johnston is a giant waste of space…

I don’t mind a guy that will drop the mitts, but I want him to do other shit in the game when there is no fighting necessary.

I'll gladly take a Moen/May or heck even Parros could play a little bit, even though I despise him. Johnston isn't an NHL player.

Edit - this is making me realize that I don't think we've heard from @Dirk316 in awhile, hope all is well. I'm sure he'd agree that an enforcer needs to be enforcing or they just aren't relevant

I heard he's good at calling out other players when they're not dumping the pucks in...
